- Hey vinyl lovers. I thought I would share this. This one of the stores that is a about a two hour drive from my house. I drove to St. Louis today for a record show and stopped by here afterwards. Just thought I would share this great store with you.
The store is kind of in the shape of an "L". The 45rpm room upstairs was closed off. Not sure why.
This building used to be a library when I was younger. The guy who owns this building now bought it when the library moved to a different location. The old Record Exchange location was just down the street from here, and a lot smaller. I come to this store once every few months.
WOW! That place is huge! Looks outstanding!! I'd be there for hours....if not days! Thanks for showing us around! I just saw massive amounts of 78's! I so want to dig through those! That place goes on forever! How MAGICAL! This one goes into my favorites!
Yay!! Very fun MrHoffame!! As you know I really enjoy seeing other record stores. Amazing how organized! The pile of 78's was interesting. Bummer about the 45 room being closed. Have to agree with the others here....very disconcerting when no music is playing in a record store. Thanks so much for the tour!! Hope you found some treasures at the record show!
Thank you thank you thank you for your site. Please keep posting your collection videos i love watching them and seeing peoples love for all sorts of good music/!
Holy cats! That store is just awesome! If I went in there I'd never be seen again.
Damn that's one bad ass store! I wish my local shop was as elaborate as this one. I would be in there for hours!
A~M~A~Z~I~N~G amount of vinyl. I wonder how long it would take me to drive down there from Boston? I see a road trip coming on Mrhoffame. I am going to NYC in three weeks to go record hopping and hopefully to Jersey as well. There are still plenty of shops in the New York area and I never come home empty handed. It is stores like this one that I used to visit a few times a week back in the 70's and 80's. In the 90's they started to size down on the vinyl for CD's.
Thanks for sharing this!.
What a great store!! I love it!! Could spend days there!!
wow what an amazing store, and so well kept!
Man, I need to go there, even though I can't. I bet this is the only record store in the world that's this massive and that sells everything possible.
wow the vinyl goes on and on there ... wish we had stores like that were i live.
I want one of everything. This is a great store. The way it should still be. Must be a big place. Vey neat.......
absolutely beautiful
Gawd, this store is a must visit! I've heard about Euclid but have yet to visit. This video is making quite an impression.
@milkcrateraider Glad you like it. There are two more great stores up there that I will make videos of as well.
WOW! Nothing like that around here. Might just have to make a road trip to St. Louis!
now i see why you have a lot of vinyl i could live in that store. wish they had something like that here in sav.
This is an old library building. Up those stairs, there is a room just full of 45's, all categorized.
looks like a sweet store for sure!
@pinkfloydforever101 Yeah I know lol. As I mentioned in one of the bubbles, the guys cd ended and he was helping another customer as I was filming so there was no music. As you can hear he made it back to the counter right as I was ending the video lol.
nice to see LPs again.
MASSIVE STORE! Wish I had a record store that huge by my place. The ones nearby are tiny.
They won't let you link it, of course, but, if you go to recordexchangestl website, under about, it tells you. I lived in South St. Louis back when it was still a library. Regardless, it's a great record store, I'm glad you put this video up.
That is an awesome store, a friend and i actually spent about 4-5 hours going through around 10,000 8-tracks lol
and then i was about to buy a reel to reel there also
it's an amazing store
@LongLostLPMan So cool to hear that. I never would have guessed some of us to be so familiar with the same places. I work out of Moline, Illinois. I'm all over the Quad Cities and often as far a Burlington and Dubuque, Iowa. My bandmates live in Burlington. There is a cool record store there too called Weird Harold's. I'm familiar with pretty much any town within a hundred mile radius of Davenport/Moline and all of the towns around the St. Louis area. Nice people in Davenport. Very cool man!!
@dereckvon Yeah, there are three great store in this area. All are about 10 minutes from each other. This one (Record Exchange), Euclid (whom has a better selection of new vinyl and Jazz), and one called Vintage Vinyl which is probably the best overall store.
@LongLostLPMan The R&B section is pretty good but there is another store nearby called Vintage Vinyl that has a much better R&B section. I have always said that this store is the home of the $6-$15 rock/R&B lps. They have tons of those $10 lps you just can't seem to find for the past 2 years lol. The other two stores in the area seem to have more rare stuff and new vinyl. For about 4 months this guy had so much overstock that he had everything in the store 50% off! I stocked up lol!
That's a truly amazing store! Might do a video of all the cool recordstores in Amsterdam (not one is as big as the store in this video)!
GREAT music store! I love all the shellac at 2:15. I would want to buy them all, especially the orange Perfect record sitting on top of that one stack. Thanks for sharing this. Do you know if they possibly have a mailorder service?
@mrhoffame That's so cool. Thanks for the reply. I used to work all over in St. Louis (service tech). I moved away from the area about 7 years ago. The main store near me I like is Ragged Records in Davenport, Iowa. I've been meaning to take my camera in there. I will have to do that. There are also a couple of CO-OP stores I go to for new stuff on vinyl. Thanks again for the info.
this is where teleporting would come in handy!
Cool store. Record stores with no music playing creep me out for some reason. Then some creepy music started playing. Would that be a double negative creepy?
I like seeing the on location type videos.
@stringchild1 It's on the south end. About 2-3 miles South of I-40 on Hampton. ...and yes, I love Vintage Vinyl. Matter of fact that is where I went after I left this store lol. Another good store in St. Louis is Euclid. It is right off of I-44.
very cool. Good looking store. Do they have a lot of recent releases?
man, i wish i had this store in my town. *drool*
Nice man, thanks for sharing, definitely have to hit that place up when in the area.. Quite an impressive shop.. Plenty-O-records..! Nice layout.. However I have one minor gripe, those stacks of lp's that were stacked horizontally 1:15 aaaargh!! epic fail & sooo wrong.. Unless of course they're planning on throwing those particular lp's out.. And yeah what's up with NO music playing? But other than that.. outstanding.. :) And most importantly, what did you pick up? video in the works?
@mrhoffame Thank you sir, I certainly appreciate you doing that.
Looks like you could spend hours in that shop!! There are no record shops where I live the closest would be 4 hours away which is why I do all my buying online!
@stringchild1 Moline huh? I have driven up there a time or two. You guys get all kind of great concerts there. Last one I saw was Godsmack!
@althazarr I'm not sure if they have mailorder or not. I'll find out for you.
Wow! That's like a wet dream i once had lol. Did they have a special place for the rare stuff or is that all picked through and gone? I'd LOVE to visit there. I hope you loaded up your trunk?
How many copes of No Jacket Required do you think they had? lol
@mrhoffame Strangely enough. I've never been to a concert up here. My oldest teen just saw Ozzy up here on Valentine's Day. Was it at The Mark or what is now the I Wireless Center? The last great concert I went to was in St. Louis at The Pageant which is about a block or so down the street from Vintage Vinyl. Got my Wrath Lamb Of God LP signed at the store and saw them headline ; Municipal Waste, As I Lay Dying, God Forbid, Children Of Bodom. It was Badass.
Oh Wow! Another reason to renew my passport!
That looks like a great store, but it does seem a little quiet for a record store
Nice..
damn... I wish there was a store like that in portugal ... :(
@dhanycz It is okay. There are two other stores in the area that have better Jazz. This store is kind of the home of your 6-15 dollar records, a TON of 45s, dvds, and all the "odd" music stuff. Another store call Euclid is where you go for huge used Jazz and new vinyl section. I think that is one you would end up liking the most. The lat one, Vintage Vinyl, is the best overall store. Great used/new lp and cd selection.
Yeah. They have about 4 or 5 milk crates full.
What part of St. Louis is this store in? I grew up most of my life living half an hour from downtown. It's had to have been there a long time. I must not have known about it. Ever been to Vintage Vinyl? They're on Delmar right about at Skinker in the University City loop. I'm about five hours from there now. Was planning to visit my folks this spring. I'll have to stop in there.
It's off Hampton and Eichelberger by across from Dairy Queen.
Does this place sell 8-track tapes? It looks huge enough to carry anything.
@EoLoVoX Could be worth it. There are three great store there. This one (Record Exchange), Vintage Vinyl, and Euclid. It is nice too because they are all within 10 minutes of each other.
@Paneeks1960 Oh yeah.. I'm sure you'll finds TONS of stuff in NY! Happy hunting.
I thought it was an old court house?
I was about to go into this store today but wasnt too sure about it. How is it?
LOL I use to go here a lot years ago. Not as much anymore though. With my collecting going more of the collectable route I don't find as much of that stuff at this store. If someone however is looking for a lot of core pieces this store has a TON of stuff. You should definitely check it out. Wait, do you live near the St. Louis area?
@@mrhoffame i want to go scout out some metal but this store seems 50/50 ish . I was talking to chad aka concert bud n he said its like a hoarders paradise… that looks to be correct lol
I live about 45 mins from stl . Do you
@jeffrecordman1958 Nope. Never heard of that one. I have been to Texas a number of times, but I haven't been to Texas since I started collection vinyl.
that's a big one! i see they like selling KISS! they have everything.
was watching this again kinda of reminds me of how rolling stones records used to be in chicago they sell nothing but cds now.
@bluenazz Indeed! lol
Can I move in?
oh.. wow.. this is a music lovers porn right here! this is a fantastic store! love the decorating too! i would do almost anything to work here, however if that were the case i wouldnt be able to keep a peny of my pay cheque because it would all go to the stuff i found here!
@Kiwizig ROADTRIP LOL!
I thnk they have an ebay store under their name.
i should move to st louis.lol
