  • In this easy rose painting tutorial, I will show you how to create this botanical painting in watercolour, in easy to follow steps. This full-length botanical art tutorial will help you gain confidence with your painting, using mixed media paper and a very limited palette. Rose painting made easy!
In this beginner botanical painting video, we will be working wet in wet, wet on dry and colour glazing, and I will explain why botanical art need not be difficult. Painting should be fun - stress-free painting!
A huge thank you to our competition winner Dyah Retno Wulandari - who provided the reference photograph for us to use for today's tutorial.
    Materials used:
Paper - Daler Rowney mixed media 250 gsm

Stunning Helen! I disagree with using any paper. I think the paper is number one must have. I use a100 percent cotton paper and the paper gives a better out come and more satisfying to paint on. I use Arches.
Thank you for your awesome videos, I enjoy them.😊

Thank you very much. I think you’re right though to be fair I think the paper place are very important role if not the most important. The reason I say use any paper is not everyone has the budget for high-quality cotton paper so because I want everybody to join in and paint no matter what budget this is why I say this. X

This is the very first of your tutorials that I have watched and I absolutely loved it! oh how I wish I discovered you much sooner. I am a beginner and I am observing these lessons like a sponge so I can internalise the concepts both for physical and digital art. It’s a lot more demanding on the pocket getting supplies for physical painting (and time and space), so I try digital watercolor as well, which is a diff challenge in itself, lol… not having natural organic waterflow. But fundamentals of light and shadow, reflected hues etc… it still all applies. Thank you!

Just found your posts. Lovely delicate work. I’m just venturing into watercolour - my usual medium is coloured pencils. I find it interesting that with watercolour artists don’t “rub out” their original outline whereas with coloured pencil it’s reduced down to barely a shadow of itself to try and completely obliterate it.
