Wow thanks man you saved my life I was about to lose my mind. God knows how much Kia would have charged me to do this. That spool thing was jammed up as hell. I couldn’t even open the door manually. That door is totally dependent on that spool spinning. Insane. I just cut the damn wires from it and pulled that whole wire system out of there. Won’t be bothering me ever again!
You have to take off the back panel to get to the motor. Once you unclip the wires from the door, or unspool the motor if that's what is broken, the door will open. Follow one of the TSBs I posted in the comments to see how to do that. It's a tough job, you'll break some clips, but they can be replaced. Now if its a lock that won't open, that's a different story, maybe the latch system at the door handle has a snapped cable and it's not triggering the unlock spring on the door latch. Take off the inside door panel and inspect that first.
@@matthewkarabela3195 early in the video you say the door wouldn't open and that the cables were spooled up in the motor. Later you show the door open but the motor in the same place and you were sliding the door around to un-hook the cables... what got them un-spooled for you to be able to open the door?
This video fixed my problem!!!! A washer inserted underneath the strike plate. 5 cent fix... unbelievable!! Shame to Kia Mississauga and Kia Oakville saying I need to replace $2,200 of parts and labor ua-cam.com/users/shortsU9QItcy7fjA

So your door was stuck closed? if you cut the wires from the spool in the back it will open?
There is a recall for those sliding doors.
For the 2018? I just thought for up to the 2017's.
@@matthewkarabela3195 I can't find information on the recall. I have a 2014
@@alysialemonde3562014 definitely part of the recall. Had mine done by Kia no charge.
so did you fix it?
I took out the rubber plugs (there are 3) on the sliding door. It closes by itself 9 times out of 10 now.
How did you manage to open the locked door? I’m having the same issue but cannot replace the motor as the door won’t open even on manual mode.

@@matthewkarabela3195 Thanks a lot for sharing. I managed to get it fixed.
@@Toshlalla what was your problem in the end?
@@matthewkarabela3195 The cables wound unevenly on the spool and got jammed. I had to replace the entire unit.

Kia Canada offers 15 year warranty on the sliding doors
I think only on 2017 or earlier... The dealership said my 2018 was out of warranty
