- After many years of watching me compete mum decided to get back in the arena herself (after much persuading). She did a great job and really enjoyed herself! Hopefully, this won't be the last time and she and Dexter will have a fun journey together!
Also at the end, there is a little dedication to all you lovely lot who sent me some amazing, inspirational messages :D

So to get a horse on the bit, first you hav eto get him forward from the hind legs and soft squeezes with both of reins or juts one? And do I repeat till he does it constantly? Please answer xxxx
x Bethy in my opinion, to get a horse on the bit you have to be round and supple first, and then the frame will come with that. Yes, a big part of it is going forward, or else the horse cannot be round. You shouldn’t have to use your hands too much other than squeezes every once in a while to have a connection between your hands and the horses mouth
push the horse forward into the bridle. Slightly squeeze both reins and you want to keep a contact on the reins
Only use 1. Inside rein should only be used for inside flexion not getting the horse on the bit. Just focus on inside leg to outside rein
x Bethy . a horse has to be VERY balenced, and supple, before working on the contact. make sure your horse is using it’s stomach muscles to support you rather than it’s back muscles causing the horse to be hollow tense and won’t naturally work into the contact. do lots of self carriage work, and building the neck muscles, and the back muscles, loads of circles and make sur when in the contact, the horse holds 50% of the contact and you hold 50% of the contact

Loved the contact videos! To me it’s like having a horse that’s not responsive and accepting of the leg... no one would question that they should be but as soon as u talk about contact no one wants to go there for some reason?? Would u want to drive a car with no steering wheel? No way... the contact is such and important supporting aid and the horse should go forward quietly and happily into your hand like a child holding your hand to cross the road... more contact videos I say!!!

I ride hunter/jumper and I work at a dressage barn for a Grand Prix level dressage rider, and I plan on taking lessons from her this summer because I feel dressage as very important to learn! I can't wait to try the new discipline! I have to wait until summer unfortunately because I work 2 jobs and do school so I gotta wait to clear up my schedule a little. Love this video! very inspiring, Im trying to get my mom to ride dressage--she's never ridden before--because she's not comfortable with jumping as she has a bad neck w/ a metal plate in it from a car accident that happened a long time ago. Any tips to help encourage her to try it? xoxo
