It's because in Kali (a martial art for knife fighting) tells you to hold your shoulder/wrist so you won't hurt your arm when slashing/stabbing (it's mainly for shadow boxing though) and Leon is very obviously trained in Kali so yeah
Another thing I love is that Luis doesn't have a special animation for parrying. It feels like he parried out of sheer luck which makes sense since he isn't trained.

I love that it basically rewards both types of players. Ones that want a quick escape at the price of some durability while also generously rewarding those who invest in it
@D00MJ perfect parry isn't disabled by default. R2 to parry is. Using L1 or R2 to perfect parry results in the same action. It's a preference setting. Enabling R2 parry, just lets you parry while readying your knife. I never really used it to perfect parry. Looks cool though.

I can't understand how to parry the headeaters they have two types parrying one where they stick up the roof and drop down at you The other which they do very close to you and other where they can just move there head towards you Man the timing of it is really hard
You can actually just spam the button and while you won't get the perfect parry which stuns them and lets you melee, it'll just block the attack. Learning the timing is cool though, you can save ammo with the added damage :P
I find it really funny how the original RE4 was tied to the creation of Devil May Cry, with Leon almost being Dante/Tony Redgrave, and in this one they also have pretty heavy ties to DMC with the usage of the same engine and those incredibly stylish parry mechanics.
Honestly I had no idea so many attacks were parryable. I'm definitely going to have to try to parry more stuff when I start my Professional playthrough tonight.

All of you just watched this man parry bullets from a handheld machine gun. Leon can parry anything: Arms, knives, guns, swords, axes, flails, dogs, a wall of spines, depression, bees, ghosts, hallucinations, government cover-ups, you name it.
It’s videos like this that make me realize just how many and which attacks can be parried with the knife, especially from the bosses that are big and formidable enough that your brain would normally react like “better run and avoid their attack” instead of thinking a tiny knife will deflect it completely.
I think it's a huge missed opportunity that parrying the first type of plaga head perfectly doesn't cut it off or at least for professional do a bunch of dmg to it, like how parrying a punch cuts their arm off.

There isn't, curious how many attempts this took. He forgot to edit out that he was spamming the parry button in one of the animations.
parrying in proffessional mode feels so damn satisfying rather than being able to just hold down the parry button in the easier difficulties
It does make a slightly noticeable squeaking/screeching sound just before it attacks, but its still really hard to react to.

The game has some incredibly smooth animations, physics and crazy hit boxes. Insane level of detail all around.

If you parry a stick of dynamite perfectly, you can cut the fuse and it won't explode in your face.
I just cant imagine how bad ass the mechanic of Resident Evil 5 would be. That game has some of the best melee attacks in RE games.
RE6, I’d argue, has better melees. But RE5’s melees are a step up from RE4.
