Oh JD! This is a great episode! Full of cool stories! But getting to see Robert Wright’s son!? Watching that presentation!…. I cried! How very special-JUST WOW!
Was at the church the week prior to the 80th. Arrived rather early on Sunday morning. The church was locked, but we walked the area and saw the memorial across the street. Just as we were about to leave, the lady from across the street knocked on our car window and asked if we'd like to see inside the church. We were about a half hour early. Her kindness allowed us to see the whole thing. Many thanks to her! Appreciate your video.
Have only just found your youtube page and it is addictive! Thank you JD for the service you provide. I am the oldest left of my family. A great uncle lost in WW11 and he rests in the Phillipines. My first husband 82nd Airborne Division lost to Vietnam and second husband First Cavalry lost to Iraq after 911. My grandchildren know only what I have taught them about these wars and campaigns. Now I have help and I thank you. Keep on keeping on!!!
I love all of the little stories that you uncover. It’s those little stories that add true color to the conflict that our relatives faced in Europe! Thank you!
How wonderful! As the daughter of a WWII Glider Pilot who flew a glider on D-DAY, to find the picture and to get in touch with the artist’s daughters so they could see some of their father’s work is such a special thing to do for them, Thank you!
JD if you're ever in central Florida, I'd be honored to buy that barbeque for you. Thanks for the video. My dad was a Korean vet, but never talked about it to his six sons.
It really moved me to see how people in France, Netherlands, Belgium honor the sacrifice of U.S. soldiers in WW2. Likewise, it breaks my heart to see how poorly our own country has all but forgotten that sacrifice and how current soldiers are treated. I know there are many who do honor the our veterans and active duty soldiers. I miss the Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations that took place when I was a kid.
I call BS! Don’t make generalizations about Americans forgetting veterans of any conflict. Plenty of us do honor their sacrifices. PS: there was never a war on Christmas.
My friends Bob Noody, Dan McBride and Don Burgett received their French Legion of Honor medals in front of Angoville church in 2014. It was an honor to be able to accompany him and be his caretaker for that journey and it's something I'll never forget, especially because of the love and respect of the Norman people shown to Bob, Dan and Don....and even to myself. I can't begin to describe the respect I have for them. JD, if you would like to see a few photos of that event, just let me know. I'll email or message them to you.
Great job again JD. My wife and I visited there when we were stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany. A small French lady named Marie opened the church for us on a Sat morning. Great to meet Sgt Wright's son. Pls do a market garden series. Thx for the Hurtgen series where my father in law was WIA in Dec 44.
This is a touching video. Sorry for you loss. But, helping both sides was magnificent. The reenactment is so cool to see. JD a great video. Thank you for sharing! ❤️💯👊👍
Excellent video! The story behind the Wm. MacDonald sketch begs to ask the question "is this Art imitating life, or Life imitating Art?" Thank you JD and all.
D-Day 80 was nuts in all the right ways, the majority of people (over 2,5 million people in D-Day week, hence the traffic jams haha), the vehicles of all sorts, the reenactors, everything was so incredibly big this year it was both emotional and great to See! I went to Angoville for the first time this year and actually went quiet for the entirety of the time, I just explained to my parents what happened there and showed them Robert's grave. I sat on the bench in the church that is bloodstained. Instant emotions and thoughts ran through my head. Very powerful place!
You won’t remember me but it was great to meet you at saint Marie du mont. you were filming the vehicles parked in the church grounds. keep up the excellent work.
Pretty interesting story of the daughters discovering their father’s drawing. Artifacts can provide a tangible connection to the people and places from the past. Then such a touching story from Bob Wright’s son. Excellent episode.
Appreciate your content and that you are bringing these more tucked away gatherings to us WW2 history geeks. This year it has been my 5th time in Normandy and 4th big anniversary I attended. Unfortunately, I have not been able to see everything I planned due to the unprecedented traffic this time even though I staid in St-Mere-Eglise. One more reason to keep coming back to that place to keep their memory alive. Glad I have found your channel.
This is a great thing to see !! Thank you for sharing !! You know , it's really a shame how our brave heros from that fight are so easily forgotten or in some cases ... Simply dismissed , here in our on country ... But held in such high regard and remembered appropriately in the lands that they fought for and helped liberate !!! Truly glad that some people in the world really appreciate what our heros did there !!!
I stayed few nights at Domaine Airborne in April 2024 in order to give our travel the proper ambient since we were there to visit all the war places and following the footsteps of BoB. A great please with many artefacts. The owner is also super nice and not hesitant to show and explain the place and items. Definitely worth to book if you want to travel there for the same reason.
Wonderful video and so good to honor these men. Humbling. My father was 2nd Infantry Division landing on Omaha Beach D+1 serving to the war’s end. Silver Star recipient. Your videos are a connection for those like me. Thank you very much.
Wonderful what Paul Woodadge did for this story and how it is now a well known part of the Normandy WW2 story. Love this sort of thing as it makes the history of WW2 live through the eyes of those who served. (no Chick-fil-A in Normandy then!) UK
JD I’m not sure if you realize what you captured here. this video is so fascinating on a couple of different levels ! If they were like Oscars or awards for videos, I honestly think this would be a serious top contender because of the content matter the presentation was mind blowing, thank you! you might be able to get a good video or interview from the guy you spoke to in the beginning he said his father used to dig war planes for his museum.
I recently learned that the Impressionist artist Claude Monet owned a house in Normandy. After he died it was kept up very well, but during WW2 it became the site of fighting and a lot of his things were destroyed in his house and part of the wall and windows to the sitting room were destroyed as well. It would be nice to see a video about this. A lot of us are artists or have a deep interest in art. It would be, as they say in a liberal arts college, to give your videos a well rounded view of life! Please do one. Thankyou
I really enjoy these videos. It makes it so much more personal. I have the" Rifle" and " The Rifle 2" Andrew did an outstanding job documenting a lot of memories before they are lost to time.
Stayed here a couple of years ago as part of our tour of the Normandy region and could not imagine staying at a better place …..highly recommended… they have several guest rooms, outfitted like military barracks, although very comfortably and tastefully done and of course… breakfast every morning.
Imagine, those fellows accomplished something by their actions, 80 years ago that so affected people that they STILL honor them. Pretty humbling... How do we live up to their example. Truly the greatest generation.
Not sure what a European BBQ would consist of , maybe some pickled herring , but I’m willing to bet if this bbq took place in the Midwest you would have made sure to be first in line 😂 great video as always JD
Andrew Biggio ! fantastic story and such a closure ! Well done ! William McDonald ! The family that owns it ! Well done Underground ! Bob Wright Jnr and senior / Maxwell Taylor ,,
Love the videos JD. To think that many of these kids that served in the ETO and the Pacific theater volunteered is amazing. Truly was the greatest generation this country has ever seen.
This the way it should be that we never see an individual as an enemy but as a human being even though they were fighting for something they believed in. I can imagine the wounded German soldiers who were given first aid by WWII hero MR. Wright and lived never forgot about how an American soldier, an enemy saved his life and lived a full meaningful life.
The history and the story’s are undoubtedly superb and worthy of remembering and give credit for those directly involved 200 people pretending to be American paratroopers wearing fake gear and ranks Not so much
Hey JD, I want to take my daughter to Normandy next summer. Do you recommend doing one of the tours through a company where most of the transportation and lodging is packaged together? If so, do you have a recommendation? Thanks
deans day , for me has a new meaning , D-DAY i took a bullet in the form of a heart attack , thankfully with emergency medical help , im still here . close call

Wow you all made a grown man cry what a touching honor for Bob Wright Sr and Jr .
Well done
Thank you JD for keeping history alive!! The places you go and the footsteps of the heroes you walk in really mean a lot to so many of us!🇺🇸🙏

Thank You Sir for your Service, and for caring for Human Beings regardless of being Friend / Foe.
I appreciate that
Great interview with Bob Wright’s son. Loving these D-Day films, JD!
Thanks! That was completely unplanned. Just happened to be fortunate enough to be there at the same time.
Humbling. I find myself crying as I watch. A beautiful grouping of individual stories makes history tangible.
The manner in which they made that presentation hit me right in the heart. Such a gear honour for a brave and selfless Medic and for his family.

The naming of the square was amazing. Not gonna lie, I teared up a little.
🙂
Thanks for taking us there ❤
Our pleasure!
Wow. I got a bit tearful when they presented the plaque. Sometimes it just doesn't seem real the valor, sacrifice and pain these men displayed.
Not crying…What an honor to an American hero. J.D., thank you for everything you do. God bless.
I can’t get enough of videos like these and the others you do over there. Keep up the great work
Glad you like them!
These connections made via research are powerful. Love that Mr. McDonalds daughter was informed of the sketch and actually visited that location.
May GOD Bless the French and Belgian people who are keeping this history alive for the coming generations. They are doing a better job than we are!
This is a touching video. Sorry for you loss. But, helping both sides was magnificent. The reenactment is so cool to see. JD a great video. Thank you for sharing! ❤️💯👊👍
I'm truly jealous, JD. This is something I would absolutely love to go to.

I have said this multiple frickin’ times…. I am so jealous of your avocation, JD! Angoville is also a special place.

Very touching. It's a so many of the small things that matter. Thanks JD
Quite an amazing story of tracking and the artist and then connecting his family with that wonderful piece of history. Great work.

Love the videos JD. To think that many of these kids that served in the ETO and the Pacific theater volunteered is amazing. Truly was the greatest generation this country has ever seen.
They were a different breed. Much that we can learn from them.
Thanks JD for another awesome video!
I could not help but notice the date on that picture. I was 1 year old on that date in 1944.
Very, very cool, Recondo 👊
Have a good week sir be safe❤
Reenacting is a really cool hobby, this is such a great video! I have seen reenacted combat with actual explosions and aircraft, it's wild.
👍🏻
Fabulous.

Very cool JD 👍 You need an assistant who'll make sure you get something to eat 😅 I know someone who would volunteer.
Ha! Thanks.
The history and the story’s are undoubtedly superb and worthy of remembering and give credit for those directly involved
200 people pretending to be American paratroopers wearing fake gear and ranks Not so much
JD. It says July 7th and not July 17th. Not being picky for sure though. Love all your videos and look forward to new ones. Keep up the great work! 🙂
