It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since the UA-cam algorithm recommended a video of a couple of lunatics pouring 4.5 tons of lead for a sailboat keel in a farmyard. Instant Sub! I can't wait to see her hit the water.
I know, I don’t have much interest in boats generally, but I was recommended the keel pour video by the algorithm and was immediately hooked. I went back and watched from the beginning after that. I always knew this day would come, Steve never seemed like the sort that might give up part way through, but it’s surreal that it’s finally here. Kinda wish I wasn’t on the other side of the world (Australia) and could see her go in the water in person.
That's when I joined the gang too. It's been a long and very interesting journey, I'm really glad I came along for the ride. Looking forward to Arabella getting her bum wet and travelling the worlds oceans! And I too hope that Alix is there to see her launch.
I remember the glueing of the keel timbers, the experiments for pouring the lead, the drafting board, Steve and Alex picking up that huge band saw, all the while I couldn't wait for the boat to be finished. While she isn't ready for the ocean yet, it still feels like this day has come too soon. No more looking forward to the Friday videos in the boathouse, but a greater adventure awaits in the open ocean. It's that mixed feeling of losing a loved one while celebrating a new birth.
I love the the part where a professional driver using a trailer specifically built for hauling boats makes Steve nervous, but pivoting a 25,000 lb boat hull, balanced on spare plumbing supplies and plywood over bumpy New England topsoil with help from volunteers ranging in age from pre-puberty to octogenarians is totally fine. ;) My wish for Arabella is that she never see winds over 70mph again, but she's built to withstand it even if she does! Great episode.
Gotta say I got a little teary eyed when I saw the trailer being loaded up for Mr. Aaron… that kid is gonna be a force to be reckoned with as he grows up surrounded by a community like this. Build your dreams kiddo. Build em all.
I totally agree with you Sean. I've been watching all the specialist characters involved in building the boat come and go but throughout I've watched how the process has been character building for Aaron.
A lot of firsts for Arabella this week! First turn. First trip. It is almost as if it was her graduation. Leaving home for the first time to go find new adventures! See you all tomorrow!
A great journey ends and another begins, huge respect for reaching this point....my one wish is that Alix turns up on the day and the world will be well again, we can but dream!
I’ve been watching the build from New Zealand for the last five years. Wow, what a journey and I have learnt so much along the way. You provided such a a sense of normality and connection through the craziness of the pandemic. Congratulations on getting to this significant milestone. Looking forward to a different phase of the adventure now and planning to vicariously accompany you on your maritime adventures. Thank you so much and congratulations again. Kia Kaaha.
Very impressive culmination of an extensive project! Steve is to be congratulated for his self education, leadership and tenacity throughout the project.
who would have thought that a bit of tree trimming would have gotten us here... your tenacity and will are almost John wick like. congratulations. the road stops here for you. but the bay opens up. I have watched you since the first video I was one of your first 100 subscribers. it's been a pleasure every Friday morning to have a cup of coffee and see what you are up to. looking forward to watching the rest of the adventure. I bet your grand dad is happy you got the crap off the lawn.
Sad but BRILLIANT, can’t wait for tomorrow. The Very Best of Luck with the launch. Hope Alix makes it there. Love and Best Wishes to you all. From - Sheffield UK.
A few weeks after y'all poured the keel I caught on and started following this build. I fell off watching for a bit and now I'm about 13 episodes behind and you're launching tomorrow?! Its gonna be a long night!
Man I'm not going to lie, my eyes are leaking and its really bittersweet but we all knew this day was coming, Steve is way too determined and talented for anything else. To continued adventures and following seas.
Steve you are smarter than the average bear! You and the crew have brought me many happy moments over the years and I feel myself sitting here with a smile on my face at your accomplishment.
Nothing prepares you for the moment a child leaves home. I’m very happy for Steve and everyone who participated in this fabulous project. I have watched since that first tree was cut. This has been one of the few events that has had a positive effect on me over the last seven years. My god 10% of my life. Keep on keeping on, Steve. I hope you’re a sailor.
From that very sketchy lead melt and keel pour she is almost across the line to become a watercraft!!! Anybody else get emotional seeing her move out of the back yard?? Thank you all, especially Steve for sharing this most incredible journey!!
Steve 7 years and you are now as close to water as you'll ever get without being in it. From now on you are s sailor. 1/3 of the world is yours. God Speed!
I remember clicking on video with two guys laying a bunch of paper down tracing out a boat and thinking to myself "Oh, it's a BOAT BOAT". What journey. Thank you for sharing it.
I started watching in April 2019 whilst in hospital for major cancer surgery. Still here! I haven’t missed a single Friday episode ever since. An inspiration to me.
Watching Acorn to Arabella inspires you. It has shown through out the process. People do incredible things, learn new things, and take risks at times to succeed. Awesome to see one journey continue just a different location. Steve we are all in your debt because of your inspiration.
After years of waking up every Friday morning to watch my favorite You Tube channel, it's a beautiful sight to see Arabella with her 2 masts reaching for the stars... can't wait to see her in the water tomorrow... tears will be shed!!!
thank you for proving the power of friendship,of having a dream, of seeing a big task through the power of the future and commitment. i am so proud to be number two today so proud of all of you and arabella. when times get tough, i think of you and draw strength, but so many of us do. all the best.....
What a great bunch of people you work with Steve.Must admit I had a tear in my eye when Arabella left your grand parents, fantastic stuff warms the heart.
Best video ever. Congratulations on a step closer to splash. I raise my glass of Tullamore Dew to you all. Should be done in 3 giant sips. Lovely step placement.
Wow! Don’t know exactly how long I’ve been watching the channel - maybe 4+ years. I clicked on the thumbnail with the lead pour and then caught up on the past videos. Been a patron for several years because when I was younger I had this same dream of sailing around the world. I get to go along now vicariously. I found this episode a bit emotional. I’m so glad that Steve has achieved this dream and I can’t wait to see the voyages to exotic places. Congratulations to all the many people who have helped this dream along!
Wow! Watching Arabella getting picked up and hauled away from Granby was quite the emotional roller coaster. A great episode for sure. Congratulation Stephen and to all the A2A crew, staff, and donors whom helped make this possible. Thanks for sharing!
Steve is a true role model for the "can do" spirit. It has been an inspiration to watch him build such a magnificent boat, learning as he goes. As a casual viewer of the video, I experienced such bittersweet emotions of seeing Arabella move from her birth place. You could see the same emotion in all of the build crew, but I can't even imagine how intense it was for them. Can't wait for launch and the many future adventures of Arabella and her devoted crew.
31:31 Watching Steve climb the mast like that makes me think he'll make an able captain in a way not many modern sailors would be, and he's never even sailed before!
What a beautiful boat and a momentous occasion! It's wonderful to see the project inching closer to water. It's wonderful to see KP back to their normal self. Congrats and outstanding job to everyone involved.
Been watching since 2016. Just amazing to see it at this stage. I remember one of the earliest episodes you were like I want to build a boat, and I've got the trees.
Having built my own 17 foot centre console 8 years ago and the excitement of the preparation for launching, I can only imagine how you feel Steve after many years of dreaming of launching Arabella. Enjoy every moment mate, you deserve every accolade coming your way.
As Arabella and the haul trailer cleared the site, all I could think of was the day that keel was poured and the work that has happened in front of all our eyes. Magnificent. Staging is planned perfectly. Launch is almost here!
I've been watching for just over 4 years now 👍 been looking forward to seeing Arabella 😊 splashing into the great blue sea 👍👍👍from Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Congratulations Steve. You’re an really resourceful and have an inspiring set of problem solving skills. I hope the launch goes well and that you enjoy your years on the boat. Not sure what the future of the channel will be but I hope you continue to make video content!
I've been here since the felling of trees and I'm so happy to see Arabella so close to the water. I could have carried on watching all day and all night. I'll be sitting here 3,122 miles away with my launch T-shirt on and a beer in my hand watching you launch tomorrow. I wish I was there.
Who would have thought that this day would come. Loading Arabella must have been the most exciting thing for the residents to watch. Great job by the truck driver.
I stopped watching when it was clear Alix was gone. What I enjoyed about this series was watching two friends work hard together building something amazing. Once he was gone, it lost its magic for me. I really hope he's there for the launch.
I don’t remember how, but I first landed on Arabella’s doorstep as Steve and Alix were lofting Arabella’s lines. I was hooked. As someone looking at getting started in boat building having just retired and with a new property and new workshop on the ocean, I was onboard. I went right to the first video and started from there. Seven years of Friday nights later my spouse and I attended the launch of both Arabella and Victoria. We’ve all seen a lot of changes in the world in that period of time. What stands out is that when a person is determined to fulfill their dreams it can happen. A huge congratulations to Steve. We look forward to Arabella’s crew’s continuing story.
The sadness I feel for the beautiful boat leaving Granby is tempered by knowing that SV Arabella is just starting her long life at sea where she belongs. What a milestone.
I’ve been loving this endeavor since the very first episode. I’m Very Proud of Steve and all who have lovingly sacrificed to this worthy labor of love. This exemplifies The Liberties and Responsibilities this country was founded on, Bravo and Godspeed!
She moved! All this time, I have waited for this. Very Good! Trees set in the ground for 100 years are now mobile. Great GrandPappy would be pleased! Nice job Steve!
It is incredibly nerve wracking to see your boat get loaded on a trailer, but the guys from Brownell are the best and make it look so easy. The hydraulic boat trailer, used all over the world, was actually invented by Brownell, so you can’t be in better hands
As someone who has built, sailed and restored wooden boats, I've followed Arabella since you dug the hole for the keel. I'm 71, the last 15 years of my working life I taught 'shop' at a top British University, now living in retirement, a long way from my roots and the sea, in a forest, up a mountain, in southern France. Good luck and Bon Voyage, may you have many pleasant trips and fair weather.
As much as it hurts me to see a real to life traditional collin archer factory being torn down, where a puddle of lead once took shape, I’m now watching the ship move, if only by 20 degrees yaw, for the first time. A gorgeous ship has emerged. Holy moly this is real, she’s om the truck ready to roll. Physically I’m just about half the planet away, though I’ve been around all and the time thanks to your beautiful youtube channel, which on its own is a treasure to humanity. Enjoy the launch, good good with the outfit and the maiden shakedown sail. Never mind me, just beyond words and just mumbling in awe. Much love and peace!
Steve and crew, watching Arabella, be loaded into the transport, was fairy movie to watch.Thinking of all the hours I’ve spent watching you guys do all this work. Here is the result of that. I think Arabella is beautiful.💕
I have enjoyed HUNDREDS of hours watching the construction of Arabella. I initially had a wave of sadness roll over me as I watched her being loaded. That quickly turned to Awe and disbelief.... The scope of this project was so great and I'm so proud of what the team has accomplished!!! GREAT JOB and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I can't wait to see where the next chapter leads us!!!
What a culmination of years of sweat and planning. Now it's time for an entirely different sort of effort. I'm looking forward to seeing Arabella with water under her keel, and to watching Steve's transition from boatwright to sailor. Not too much longer and I can wish you fair winds. Thanks, crew.
Steve and the whole crew, you are amazing! I started watching A2A back on episode 16. You have educated and entertained me for five years now, thank you!!
This gives me hope for our country; so many great young people. After watching for a few years it was emotional seeing the boat leave the farm. Can't wait to see the launch.
What an incredible Journey, incredible people doing incredible things, simply and safely with great passion and commitment. You are all to be commended, I as we all have enjoyed watching you and Arabella come so far together!! Thank you for sharing.
Must say watching the masts raised and fitted brought shivers and a tear or two. Then and only then does she become a sailboat. Congratulations! Hope to meet y’all in Mystic. 🎉
I had to pause the video to say that this is so surreal. I have been watching since the beginning and it just doesn’t seem like that was several years ago. I have not missed a single video. This final push seemed to happen so fast and it’s unbelievable to see her going down the road!
Beeing able to follow along the journey over all these years was a real gift. From cutting the first boards till this day. I allways rooted for your success and seeing the community that formed arround working on this project really restores my faith in humanity. Sending much love and all the very best from Gemany.
I recall your 1st days building. The steaming/bending, the lead pour and getting that completely necessary shelter. I built a house with some help from friends but mostly I built and finished it. Five years of every weekend. You all have that stick to it-ness to do this and I say awesome!
Man, this is nerve wrecking. I had tears in my eyes watching Arabella start to move and brush that tree, the last handshake after departing to a whole new world.
The inspiration to build and the creation of this beautiful boat by Steve, Anne and all of the crew has done something special. Much more than providing Friday morning entertainment, it has connected a lot of people, from all over the world, to each other in appreciating this project for its camaraderie, craftsmanship, gentility, dedication, whimsy, and love of a great story. Steve came up with an idea that was fairytale-like in its inception but made it work with his tenaciousness and by being a natural engineer and just as importantly by connecting people and generations together. Sorry that I cannot make it tomorrow. Good luck and thanks from the Coast of Connecticut!
Arabella finally sees sunshine & a road trip. Lots of work loading all the equipment from the build. Been watching for 7 years hard to believe & enjoyed every minute. The best is yet to come in the next few videos. The rigging is what I've been waiting for. ATB guys.
It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since the UA-cam algorithm recommended a video of a couple of lunatics pouring 4.5 tons of lead for a sailboat keel in a farmyard. Instant Sub! I can't wait to see her hit the water.

Same. I have not missed a video since.
Came to make basically the same comment. God I feel old now
Same!! I started with the keel pour. I have to say this channel has been such a shining light in the shadowy realms that YT can sometimes emit.
I've been watching since the lead pour and it's been amazing watching it all come together.
Same..... but doesn't it look smaller now the shed is not covering it LoL 😅. What a great Gurnee
Yup. Me too. It’s been quite the show. I hope Alix shows up to see the splash.
👍👌👏 Same here.
That's when I joined the gang too. It's been a long and very interesting journey, I'm really glad I came along for the ride. Looking forward to Arabella getting her bum wet and travelling the worlds oceans! And I too hope that Alix is there to see her launch.
My thoughts exactly. What a plan, what a process, what a trip! Just Wow....
As one of the many who have been watching A2A since the first video, it's a strange feeling to know this day has finally arrived.
Thanks for being here!
@@AcornToArabella Thanks for giving us somewhere to be. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Just ducked over and subbed KP’s channel
Ditto
Same here! It has been a long and fascinating journey to the beginning of the voyage...
Seeing KP standing on the empty pile of shavings and bits of wood really made my computer screen go blurry. Definitely a bittersweet moment.
Aw man, I had a tear in my eye watching Arabella begin her journey. But it was a tear of joy. 😁
I know right
Glad I wasn't the only one...
Me too.
It’s so good to see KP back on the job. KP, I hope you’re feeling better!
Steve, don’t forget the silver coins under the masts when you step them .
I wwould write the same about the silver coins......greetings ffrom Belgium and bless Arrabella and crew.
That was a milestone for everyone who’s watched this boat come to life. Four me it must be 5-6 years. Can’t imagine how it felt for Steve.

It's good to see KP laughing again. Good luck om your new channel!
What a culmination of years of sweat and planning. Now it's time for an entirely different sort of effort. I'm looking forward to seeing Arabella with water under her keel, and to watching Steve's transition from boatwright to sailor. Not too much longer and I can wish you fair winds. Thanks, crew.
"Why don't you release the two outer jacks, and see what happens?".....I love your attitude and optimism. We need more of this these days.
Amazing work Steve I know the journeys not over but to see her drive down the road made a old man cry..
Watched for years, sadly never left a comment, not anywhere, but blown away by this video. Happy times and happy sailing. Outstanding.
I’m wearing my A2A shirt for the launch. All the very best to you Steve and crew from down here in Aus.
So good to see KP back in action!
Good job to all. That had to be a nerve-racking time. Glad to see the SUPs heading to the launch as well😊
Beeing able to follow along the journey over all these years was a real gift.
Not to mention the lofting floor and the setting out of the shape of the boat, that was a lot of brain work which I admit totally lost me 😂
Man, this is nerve wrecking. I had tears in my eyes watching Arabella start to move and brush that tree, the last handshake after departing to a whole new world.
I am so looking forward to seeing Akiva on Arabella after she's launched.
ATB guys.
I got a bit misty watching Arabella leave the yard. Only one word for my emotion...WoW! Godspeed!
Got a little choked up when Arabella started to move out of the driveway. She looks glorious. Good luck Steve.
