This band is so overlooked as one of the better bands out of the 80's era. Their sound is that perfect rock/pop sound with a mix of that old 50's rock styling. This is a rock anthem! We jammed to this song back in the 80's. Also check out - "Talking in Your Sleep"
@@ErikaSMHSyes to everything except 50's. Comparable songs would be Kinks- All Day and Alll Night, or Beatles version of Twist and Shout. Partly late 50's, but really 58-68., but mostly early 60's.
I'm 68, from the UK and my genre of music stems from punk, rock, classical (I just love orchestral music especially when merged with rock) and new wave but I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite tracks/videos of all time, it just conveys raw rock and energy!!.
"What I Like About You," "Out of My Mind (Into My Head)" AND "Midnight to Six Man" - a cover of a 1966 tune by The Pretty Things (Brit band) - ALL by The Romantics, ALL bruisin'! That patented Rickenbacker tone and that killer harp makes this one click and throw sparks. To my mind and ears, The Romantics are an amalgam of 1960s American Garage and Brit Invasion. Oh! How we danced!
Got to see The Romantics, from Detroit, live in a small club in Massachusetts, after they had grown their hair out. Pretty rocking show I must say. Lots of energy.
I was a drummer in a rock band during high school. Sometimes we had a dedicated singer, but when we didn't I was the singer. I wasn't a good singer but I was the only one willing to do it. I drank a 6-pack before we went on, and that gave me the courage I needed. It really isn't difficult to sing while drumming. Think about it this way. When you first start driving a car you can't focus on a conversation because you have to pay attention to your hands, your feet, and what's going on around you. But after a while, your body learns what to do and it becomes more of a subconscious activity. Then you can easily hold a conversation. On a side note. We once performed at a Bat Mitzvah for a girl from the neighborhood. Things went well until we took a bathroom break. The girl's uncle offered to share a couple of joints with us in the bathroom, which we gladly accepted. Then we went back for our 2nd set. We were playing Stairway To Heaven and I thought everything was going fine until the bass player's sister came up and whispered in my ear that had just sung the same verse 4 times. At least it didn't ruin the party.
Fun song; the drummer's sound effects are fun and hilarious! All of them look like they're having fun! Basic video on MTV in the early 80's, great song!
My son, now 38, grooved to this band and I did too! Punk, rock or maybe a blend of both. This is gets me up and dancing! Now you hear this song in tv ads! As long as the guys get their royalties!
Omg I love this song so much! You just hear the first couple of notes and you feel happy...like yay! I'd put this on the jukebox as soon as I got to the pub in 85 and dance...that's how my husband knew I was there...before we actually met! Played it at our wedding and there were some hysterically funny dances by people.
I took my daughter to see The Romantics as her first concert back in 2007. Love this band. They have SO many great songs that never really became “hits” for them but they are a great live act nobody should pass up on. Been to MANY concerts but love my daughter’s first was The Romantics. They killled and she loved it
I bought this Single in 1980. It peaked at #2 in Australia, kept off #1 by "Moscow" by Genghis Khan. Many years later I bought their "Best of" album, which was full of great songs that never got airplay in Australia, except for "Talking in Your Sleep' which peaked at #14. Great band, great musicians.
The whole album has 'radio hits' on every track. (Although none made to the radio for some reason.) All catchy sing-along stuff. A friend said "If someone told me The Beatles of the 60's wrote these songs I'd believe them!" I said "I can definitely hear that!"
If you want an interesting visit to the 80's music scene watch the movie Valley Girl. It had a bunch of new wave recording artists including the Psychedelic Furs, the Plimsouls and Josie Cotton, both of whom appeared in the film. Also, Bonnie Hayes, Modern English, the Flirts and Payolas originally it also had a bunch more but they couldn't get the rights so the "real intended" sound track wasn't released until 2014 in Japan.
You just heard one of THE dancefloor fillers from my college years. Even the people who couldn't dance would be out there jumping around and yelling "HEY!" 🤣
Drummers who sing lead. Don Henley,Phil Collins,,Peter Criss from KISS,, The Band(can't think of his name). I think it is rare for a drummer sing lead.
This track was on both my cd's AFL Footy songs and Triple M Beer songs. My favourite track from the Romantics is 'Talking in Your Sleep' hope you get to listen to it.
songs from the year you were born that you may only have heard once as a baby if your mother had the radio on all day long, also: songs from your pre-school day that you think you remember but you don't actually or do and can brag about it
I saw them play in NYC in the late '90s. They were doing a free outdoor set in Manhattan near the fish market by the water. Danny Bonaduce, of Partridge Family fame, was a local DJ at the time and did emceeing duties. They sounded great, but one thing left a sour taste in my mouth. When they took the stage, there was some kind of sound issue, so two sound guys went up there and worked on the sound right in front of the drummer. The drummer was bitching about it, calling the sound guys stooges and generally being nasty about it. When they fixed it, he yelled at them to get off the stage, saying they weren't band members. He even kicked out at one of them as they left. It's possible he was trying to be funny, but he only came across as a jerk. Don't know which drummer it was, but he didn't sing lead, so probably not the guy in the video.

“1 in A Million” as well

Talking In Your Sleep is sung by the guy up front! 🤟
An outstanding song and one of my all time favourites. A musical masterpiece, love songs in this genre.
Jimmy Marinos, The Romantics Drummer is singing and he sings the lead on the original recording.
Love this band. They rocked us in the 80's for sure. Incredible band live.
Rock You Up,Talking In Your Sleep, and Shake A Tail Feather are my fave Romantics tunes.
Shake a Tail Feather was done even better by another Detroit band 15 years earlier, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
Loved your reaction to this song.
Reminds me of when MTV was actually music television
yeah the Romantics rock!

When I look in your eyes is another banger. Also, One in a million is a good song..
Levon Helm, the drummer for The Band, often sung lead
Classic song from my youth. Criminally underrated band.
Secrets that you keep is another good one by them
From Detroit
Phil Collins from Genesis, and the Eagles’ Don Henley both alternate lead on songs with their band mates.
Also Don Brewer the drummer of Grand Funk Railroad, alternated lead singing duties with Mark Farner.
Levon Helm from The Band
the guitarist that played the harmonica also was the lead singer in some songs
Michigan Boys!

In my top 50 rock songs of all time. Great reaction you two!

The band Triumph also has the drummer as a singer but he rotates with a guitar player. Follow Your Heart

Everyone has a microphone and guess what so does everyone in NEMOPHILA including the drummer.
