The original Soulcalibur was Soul Edge, and hell I agree. Even with Soul Edge only having 10-11 characters still has a pretty impressive fighting mechanic. Only different fro Soulcalibur and Soul Edge is that Edge had that Tekken movement before the 8 way run came into play.
Soul Calibur in my opinion has the strongest first entry than any other fighter. The roster is huge and the controls and graphics hold up so well.

I think soul edge be more close to virtua fighter then tekken.
