- In this short tutorial Robbie shows how the geared eZee hub motors are opened up for service using basic tools. These motors do not have any required scheduled maintenance, but would typically be opened up when there is a more serious failure.
That could include:
a) Stripped gears from excessive torque (Loud grinding noise when motor is run)
b) Worn out or corroded ball bearings (Looseness and play in the hub)
c) Freewheel clutch that has seized and no longer freewheels (works fine, but some drag when motor turns without assistance)
d) Sheared keystock on clutch (motor spins internally but doesn't turn shell)
I can't find anywhere how to check flat tyre that is on the motor. Obviously you can't immerse under water. Can you please give me help on this?
One of the greatest 1st. UA-cam comments ever. (Kidding) Seriously though, thanks for a look inside a hub!
Good to know about the delacing thing. Luckily I got the front-wheel version :)
Great Video do you think you could make another one with swapping the motors wheels?
How do you get the axle out if you need to replace that?
How loud is the motor when it is running? I have a 350 watt Bionx system that is almost totally silent.
Hey bud. I have some hub motors and am having an issue with them completely locking up when the accelerator is let off. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
2:08 _"just like that the motor's open"_
2:43 _"you should be able to just pop the motor out"_
Translates to: *WARNING, this process may take up to two hours.*
Which part is the clutch?
can you tell me how to get rid of the speed limiter on a rear tire brushless motor? by any chance...
There is no speed limiter inside the bushless motor. You will only have speed limiting in your motor controller, not in the motor.
@@GrinTechnologies i seeee i seeeee nnnnkay nnnnnkay wasn't sure because the motor i have seems like it has a governor in it. i'll hit the throttle and will accelerate and then you feel it hit a speed and slow down accordingly and i want it to not do that lol
This motor can work without Planetary Gears, so what is that function actually?
The planetary gears slow the ~1250 rpm of the motor to a ~250rpm of the wheel, and increase the torque 5x in the process.
Is there any way to remove the stator from the coils? My magnets are full of crud (metal dust) and I want to clean them.
It's a bit tricky with the eZee hub motors unfortunately and requires a press and some inside slipring pliers IIRC. Have you tried to see if compressed air can blast away the debris?
@@GrinTechnologies I just vacuumed it. Guess I will have to live with the crud.
ciao io dpo averlo cambato e rimontato va indietro come mai mi sai dire grazie
Do you have a video to install the harness wire ?
It's easier than the GMAC cable, which we go over here ua-cam.com/video/spgDaEw0QEA/v-deo.html
Good video but how do you replace the hall sensors on this motor?
We have a hall sensor replacement video in this exact same motor model about to be released soon.
Grin Technologies I've replaced them now, thanks anyway, just waiting for the 9pin power lead to turn up.
What do I need to replace for the noice to go a way ? Any suggestions?
Geared hub motors make noise. Upgrade to a better non geared hub motor
Hey guys crazy question, how do you remove it from the wheel frame itself? Say you wanna put it on a new bike with a different wheel size., for example.
You either unscrew the spoke nipples and delace it the slow, way or you use bolt cutters and delace it the fast way. Then you lace it into a new rim with a new set of spokes to match the new rim ERD. ua-cam.com/video/3OialWggZJo/v-deo.html
@@GrinTechnologies thank you brother 🙏
Какой смазачкой смазываете шестерни?
Good, I though they would be axial flux motors, this means there is still a lot of torque potential in future products without needing a larger hub. Can't wait to see those make their way to consumer scooters.
There are very very few axial flux hub motors that we're aware of, mostly used by elite solar car teams. For direct drive motors it's quite a non-trivial mechanical challenge to counter any unbalanced axial forces between the rotor and stator at these kinds of diameters while keeping the support structure light. But for small diameter geared motors like this it should be more achievable and hopefully we will see that some day!
Hi..where can I get a new clutch and planetry gear system from
www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/motor-hardware/gears.html
Are you kidding.glad I bought a voilmart
Plastic gears. Amazing.
Nylon gears hold up amazingly well and are both tough and pretty quiet. It's the norm in all geared hub motors for a reason.
What kind of sealant should be used?
2:00 DO NOT KEEP THE NUT ON WHILE BANGING IT AGAINST THE FLOOR
I REPEAT DO NOT KEEP THE NUT ON
I followed his instructions and kept the nut on, and now my threads are ruined :(
My EZEE motor wires come out the opposite side, so the connector you sold me will NOT fit thru the hub shell; which forces me to cut all the wires EVERY SINGLE TIME the motor must be serviced. Sell smaller diameter connectors, please.
who knew David Tennant had such an affinity for eBikes
Seems I was missing the “bang it on a rock” step.
easiest way is to drop it out of a high window

How do you take the cable off the scooter is there clip
I have an issue where I just do not get any forward momentum when accelerating fast it just spins through.. any idea why?
Sure wish my emove cruiser from voro motors was this easy to solve fixing. Annoying knocking sound in the rear motor upon trying to accelerate. No sealent was also used in separating the motor, plus different design with copper coils on both sides, held in by magnets on the motor and inside the rim circumference. Terrible design and impossible to work with, at this point I'm getting ready to scrap it, been a money pit from day one.
hi i need one hub for my scooter model numbar vivo s2 tire size 8.5 i want good one because my scooter rim Crooked also tire but in side moter work good plz can you tell me how can put new Can possible without a motor I making new rim plz ?? give Answer
Would you know why my control box is flashing red on the inside, I have power and my screen works but my wheel won't move at all
Pitty they don't build things to last anymore. Once water breaks through that silicone seal, I can imagine that carnage.
my snap ring was broken. Is that alright to just put the cap back? I don't find it useful.
I was riding my fiido d1 ebike and the rear wheel locked up all of a sudden, causing the bike to skid off to the side with me on it. It seemed like something inside the rear wheel locked up, any ideas what it could be? It was a momentary thing, the wheel worked afterwards, but caused me to brake abruptly.
Actually there is a problem with my bike (i didnt take good care of it). Sometimes, the pedals don't work. What I mean is, when you turn the pedals, the chain turns the rear wheel, however, sometimes the rear wheel doesn't turn... its like pedaling backwards.
But sometimes it does work. Mostly when it is warm.
Its like there is some engagement pin inside the rear wheel that sometimes engages and sometimes doesn't..
Anyone know? many thanks!
Sounds like you have a rear freewheel or cassette freehub that has sticky pawls and sometimes fails to engage. If so this is a bicycle hardware issue, not an electronic or motor issue.
I just can't open the cover hand down:-)))
Thank you very much. The same way you can open a qwic high torque of a babboe big-e
When i trun the throttle on my electric scooter the motor start to make knocking noise
Lots of things can cause that. The best course of action is to contact the company who sold you the scooter and ask them to give you technical support.
My hub (2010) opens form the drive side not the wire side.
This is useful video,cheers
Out standing videos 👍👍 buddy good information to know how to fix a hub thanks again for the help.
Question for you:
I have a Jetson bolt pro. Originally 36v, I ran it on a 48v 20ah battery and 350watt controller (after market). It worked fine for months - topped out at 22 mph.
I swapped out the 350w controller for 1500w controller. It accelerated fast and pulls incredibly steep hills. It ran perfectly for about 20mins. I turned the bike off and took it home.
When I powered in back on - the motor spin incredibly fast with no load (scarily fast). However, when I add load (sit on it) the motor doesn't spin (externally). I can hear it running though.
How can I repair this - or where can I buy a replacement 14" motor hub motor?
Motor is probably damaged. Over volt direct drive motors instead
Dude, you got a good clip. You, and not too many, are aware many people need as feww "special" tools, as possible. Hence, the "DIY." Your clip is concise, few laughs, perhaps, and understandable. THANKS! YOU the best (only few like ya...)
Thanks John, we appreciate the feedback and are glad you're getting the info you need.
Do they create a lot of rolling resistance, made of lightweight alloy? Can it work as generator or even allow regenerative breaking?
These hubs have a freewheeling clutch on the planet carrier so they have no rolling resistance but also are not capable of regenerative braking. For that we would recommend the GMAC hub motor. You could use the eZee as a generating spinning backwards though since then the clutch would be locked.
Where can i order a new Motor?
how can I remove the spoke flanges so that i can insert in a tyre? i am not using spokes as this is for a different project
Most easily with a lathe, milling machine or belt sander, depending on what you have access to.
Now we know.
My motor doesn't pop out as yours but seems to be stuck inside. Any suggestions?
Make sure the axle hardware is removed?
Cool
My bike was in the rain an it have a beep sound while riding what is the cost
ebikes (dot) ca ;)
How do you replace the rod
Forgot the remove spokes part. Na f that
It's not required with this version of the hub motor (notice how both spoke flanges are on the hub shell), the wheel can stay laced in the rim. But after about 2018 eZee changed their rear motor design with the spokes on the side plate, and so at least half the spokes have to be removed first before opening. It's a bit of a PITA.
