- In this video documentary Justin Dueck talks about how Disney's Herbie The Love Bug has influenced not only his own life, but his families involvement as well. This mini Documentary shows a very unique side of classic Disney films and their influence.
Every time I see Herbie, I smile and he just makes me feel like there's a reason to live. I've been going through a ton of depression and whenever I see Herbie, whether he's on TV or in person, he always turns my cloudy days into sunny days. I'm hoping that one day, I'll own a Herbie and do whatever it takes to make him happy. Whenever he's sad, I'll carry him on a nice sunny cruise in the country and when he's mad, I'll calm him down by comforting him. Whenever I get a Herbie, I'll treat him like he's my own son because honestly he'll be the only friend I'll have when I get him cause I have no friends at all. Herbie may be a car but he's a person just like the rest of us. Being human doesn't make you a person, your PERSONality makes you a person. Herbie will forever be the one to make our grey skies clear and our darkness bright. Dean was one lucky man to own Herbie and live his life with the little fella. I know someday I'll get a Herbie and I'll make sure that he feels right at home and make sure he'll never be upset cause I love him like a brother. Those who own a Herbie, be sure to love him until his last mile, cause he the only person who will never hurt you or treat you like trash. Rest in Peace Dean, we all miss you

I love Herbie so much! For some reason I can't explain, Herbie is the only soul on Earth I can say "I love you" to without feeling awkward. He's just so lovable and adorable, I can't wait to own him someday! It's the biggest dream/goal I have for my life. When I do get him I will treat him with lots of love and I will make sure he is happy. About a year ago was when my childhood Herbie obsession became new again. Since then I've always had a special place in my heart for Herbie, and I always will. I know there are still lots of fans out there, but he deserves more love than he gets these days. Herbie is the little car with a big heart!!!

I loved Herbie when I was little, he was my favorite thing to watch, he taught me things that became a part of who I am, how to love, how not to hate, and try to do the things that we love, no matter how impossible it can be

It's nice to know that's not the end of Herbie. Even more so, that Captain Blythe learns a valuable lesson: Nobody fucks with the great and powerful Herbie and gets away with it

My first word was Herbie and i grew up with beetle's and Herbie in particular
your video and story is truly inspiring I have a 1973 volkswagen super beetle now it's is a little different then a 63 standard beetle that herbie is but the herbie movies are really what started my love for these cars and got me to get my 73 and this video definitely gives me a strong motivation to get mine back on the road

Justin, This is touching and epic. James reaction to the HGB overboard scene is too much. It's like you went back to 1991 and filmed me watching it for the first time. LOL. I love how the Herbie really is a member of the Dueck family! Too bad my Herbie is officially in winter storage. I really need to get Herbie back out in the spring and film some more stuff!

I could never watch the herbie overboard part, made me cry every time, still does, I’ve loved herbie since I was about 3/4 years old, I’m now 26 I still love bugs, for me the best car ever made and holds a special place in my heart, one day I will have my dream childhood car 🚗❤️
Amazingly fantastic story you have with you're family and how you have this car is so great!❤ I have a 1963 and one day sitting at 33 years old I want to share my love within a family I can have. This car I have to share with my one day hopefully family.

It gives me great sadness to know that I am 12 years old to have seen all the herbie movies and to think that when I am 18 I will not be able to buy a vw beetle since they will not exist for those years:, ( (my dream is one of those I saw myself all the herbies departing from 1968 to 2005)

Great video! I was touched by this. I'm one of those people, like you, who has obsessed over Herbie ever since I was a little kid (younger than five years old). Other people really don't understand it when I try to explain it to them. I hope to one day have a Herbie of my own. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Very good! Congrats man. What an awesome project to have with your family to enjoy. I Loved watching Herbie everyday growing up. I completely understand. As a matter of fact, My great grand father was director of film photography at Disney and filmed Herbie. He worked with Dean Jones and the cast. Herbie is special to me too. I do the same with my boys but with Ford Mustangs.

Actually I chose these songs partially cause you can hum the herbie theme to each of them perfectly. ;) If it wasn't illegal I'd overlap some electric guitar overtop of them to the sound of the "Herbie theme". ;) Oh well.

Hey Justin, first time seeing your vid, great job! At 57, I saw the original movie at a drive-in theater. Your video brought back found memories of my dad thx. Question; are the plates just on for your video or do you have an address in CA.? Maybe you can't answer that in case someone from ICBC is watching, LOL! ...so never mind. Will look out for Herbie next time I'm in Kelowna. 😊

Herbie was produced before I was born. I was Born in ‘88. But My grandmother had some vhs and I grabbed a vhs that was supposed to have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles recorded on it and seemed like my grandmother recorded The Love Bug and I loved the movie and being 31 yrs old Herbie is still one of my favorite films. Its true many movies today lacks the innocence that Herbie brought to the films. My sons name is gonna be Jim Herbie (Last name) 😂
Love see another film movie. Herbie live on Forever. And different colors cars . I truly enjoy watch them. Never know that Mr he past away. Still shock. Truly amazing actor. And 53 car still greatest today. All Ages

I watched fully loaded in my childhood too that’s how I got into Herbie… but since the revival of my obsession the older movies have been my favorite and I actually didn’t even know about them as a kid, I was missing out!
Great job with your Herbie! That is one very authentic Herbie, except for the fake gas cap on the right side. But I can imagine how you feel with your accomplishment of creating a Herbie. I've been there! In 1982, I bought a white 1962 sunroof bug that I made into a Herbie. I bought paperback copies of all four love bug movie books so I can look at the pictures. I did this in order to figure out how to make the stripes and the 53's. There were no "Herbie kits" that one could order online back then.

I really loved the video! I just can't believe that some one can actually make that kind of a bond like that with a car and I never knew that! Beetles are vary special to me and to other people too! It's there history & personally that connects them to me and those other people. And another cool thing is that this video was released on my 8th birthday!

your so lucky. I've a close friend that has loved herbie sinse the late 70s he was born with a lot of birth defects. he can never get employment. he is so smart but can never finish projects hes to ill. so sad. check out channel 53

Sad fact about the Herbie they sent off the cruise ship they never found that one in real life never recovered people say the salt water took its toll and sank it because although the volkswagen bug can float on water for 72 hours 3 days being in the ocean was not built for that

DrivingHabits there’s no reason at all why you can’t slap some stripes and numbers on your 82 and call it Herbie. People do it all the time. What matters is that it brings you and others joy. Post your project progress on the fb Herbie the love bug fan base if you do. Cheers.
