our rabbit likes to run behind the couch because it is a very small area. so, we will set up a board or some other barrier so he can't get behind there. it is also pretty hidden and is extremely convenient. 😀

A house is never truly bunny "proofed". You can only achieve bunny "you think you have everything protected until the little pooper one day decides to jump on your bed and chew the waist of you favorite pair of jeans and belt while you were in the bathroom".

I have applied your tips that fit our needs. These tips not just protect from my rabbit, but my ferret and even my cat. The main tip being the flexible cover for my USB cables and cords on my CPAP and SoClean machines. I also like the “garden hose” idea. Thank you, and blessings for you and Lennon. Also, FYI, I placed an order and received very good service and great quality Hay, Timothy Hay Cubes, bedding, stainless steel MidWest Snap y food and water bowls from one of your links...SPS. My Bugs Bunny is one happy bunny with the Hay Sampler and he is learning to like healthy treats just for him. Thank you, again.

One of the dogs found a, well, about two week old cottontail and was protecting it gently like a baby. Up on the porch. We searched and searched for the nest but finally gave up and called the wildlife center just before they closed. They said put a heating pad on low half way under a shoebox with a towel and let it be quiet for the night then bring it in in the morning.
Well, my heating pad shuts off every hour so I guess I’ll be up all night turning it back on, but I may be binging Lenny videos all night long to keep me company and as preparation for the time when I can finally get a pet rabbit or two (from the animal shelter of course, not from the dog)
Thanks for all the info for us newbies

BRUH FELT THIS TOO HARD, I spent literal weeks setting up my room to hide all of my wires and training my rabbit to do her stuff in a very specific part of the room. So many weeks of hard work on both me and the rabbit's part, I told my dad to simply go out and buy some Hay for my bunny to eat and not pellets. This man comes back with a $70 CAGE. This cage doesn't even fit through the door unless I like put it at an awkward angle. That's how big this cage is, I was so upset. Then when he was telling me why he bought the cage instead of the Hay I GAVE HIM MY MONEY TO BUY this man says "The manager lady told me that you should never have a rabbit out of the cage and that bunny proofing doesn't actually work" and I was livid. I told him that this cage is incredibly overpriced and that you literally aren't supposed to have a caged rabbit once they are adults BECAUSE THEY NEED TO MOVE AROUND, they most likely got you to buy that cage because she knew you had no clue what you were doing and convinced you to spend $70 on a cage that is too big and isn't needed. I was then called spoiled and ungrateful, this was like 2 years ago and this still bothers me because I had to rearrange the entire room just to fit this monstrosity. . . like ugh.

    • @junebug3354
      @junebug3354 5 років тому +3

I've read that they should have a thick layer of fat over their body but you should still be able to feel the tips of their spine and rib-cage without a struggle. Anything less than that is under weight, anything over can lead to being obese.

In general, look for a gentle taper from the hips to waist, but no visible jutting bones. When you pet the bunny, you should be able to lightly feel their skeleton, similar to how you can still feel an object covered by a thick blanket. Loose skin or fat around the chin is normal on adult female rabbits (it's their dewlap) and the occasional male rabbit as well. If they are able to happily jump around and seem to have a good amount of energy, they are probably fine. Your vet should be able to give you more specifics for the breed of your rabbit :)

    • @mansar2520

I learnt the hard way that rabbits love chewing cords.
My rabbit was about 6 months old when we got her, and her original owner said she was litter trained and didn’t chew cords. About a year in, I see some little knicks in the cords. I tell my mom about it, and i showed her. She said it was probably there to begin with and I agreed. The next morning I found my iPad cord chewed literally in half while it was charging! My honey bunny isn’t dead, don’t worry

    • @Caroline-et1nu

I would recommend the the rabbit chew repellant spray from Lorelei's rabbit hacks video. It's simply Apple cider vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water, and a squeeze of lime juice. I've actually tried this formula out myself, and it works great because i have all wooden furniture! Just spray it onto the bottom of the piece of furniture (where your rabbit could reach) and that's all. 🐰❤

Thanks. You helped us avoid a bunny for our home. We’ll stick with just our German shepherd. I did notice something for you.
We tend to think that as long as an electrical wire is covered with rubber or plastic, it’s safe, this is far from true!!!
When the electricity flows (the device needing power is switched on) an electromagnetic field very similar to a field from a magnet, exists OUTSIDE THE WIRE! If that field encounters another field like from another part of the same wire or some other devices wire, the fields combine to either increase voltage or amperage of the field itself.
If you then present a source of ground to that field, you get to discover how much invisible energy is in that field first hand! Obey warnings like those found on long extension cords! Never pile up or bunch up the excess cable of wires plugged into wall sockets! Most folks will get lucky and get away with it but it really is a roll of the dice. Touch the wrong thing while near that pile of wires and things will get serious real fast!
Remember, this is how electric coils and transformers work. 😊

Our Mini Lop learned not to go into the office. When we lived in Atlanta we had a screened in front porch and when it was warm enough to leave the front door open he'd go in and out on his own. He would pull the screen door open to come back in and push it to go back out. He also loved to ride in my big truck. He would on the bunk and I'd turn an air vent on him and he'd stretch out and ride. Or he'd sit in my wife's lap and look out.

I never had to properly bunny proof because my 1st bun isn't normal. He never chews the baseboards, walls, blankets, etc. The only thing I've found him interested in is cords, but even with them he's not persistent with chewing them.

We got a baby gate- underestimated how small Rowan is and can squeeze though. So we have put up some chicken wire temporarily to cover the gate until, hopefully, he grows too big to squeeze through. He is only 12ish weeks old so he has a lot of growing to do still.
Definitely need to try the shipping tape idea out too before we buy corner covers- we have grids along the walls he enjoys chewing most but he climbs on-top of them now to reach further up and chew😂
Also bought him a bunch of new toys today because I suspect he has gotten bored of his original ones

Bunny-proofing my home has been a battle of wits between me and our smartest bunny, Skye, that after 2 years and 3 digital aerial cables I think I have finally won. In fact Skye should be given credit for persuading me to give up on having an aerial and just stream everything on catch-up services instead.

The enrichment thing is definitely very important. Give them as many things as you can that they are allowed to chew and the chances of them chewing things you don't want them to are reduced. And they'll be happier for it! I would add that, however well you bunny-proof your house, those curious wee critters will confound you at some point. So if you're thinking of getting a bunny but are very, very house-proud and the thought of chewed sofa legs and skirting boards fills you with absolute horror, think long and hard about whether they are the right pet for you.

I wish I saw this sooner 😂, my Bunbun chewed my heating wire, ac wires, and headphones........ and dug holes on my blankets 😑 so in the end I made a double wall and hid all my wires behind the walls 😂 she cost me more then 10k in repairs 😂. Do I still love them? Yes I do! But my next litters I wish to make them a seperate bunny house with better preparation!

The next time I bunny proof a room, I will use CPVC couplings compiled together along any one of my cords. Keep in mind that if you do this you have to disconnect they male end of the cord. You would have to have the know-how to put it back together. So don't try this if you don't have the respect or knowledge for electricity

Dear Lorelai and Lennon, first of all thank you for all your helpful and fun videos, they really helped me prepare for when my two adopted rabbits would arrive. I have two Teddy Widder bunnies, Polly and Sylvester, and both like to explore. My question relates to the cable protectors, Polly seems to like to chew bits of the plastic protector... Should I maybe use a garden hose instead to bunny proof my cables? Thank you so much in advance for everything! ❤️🐇

How do I go about free roaming a rabbit in a college dorm? I remember last year I had a lot of space for my rabbit to run around for long periods of time until he chewed a hole through the dry wall. I had to block it so he wouldn’t keep picking at it. But unfortunately due to a loud hall mate, I had to rearrange my dorm room to sleep better and it decreased the amount of room he had to run around.

This is not a popular method, but I trained all my rabbits what are appropriate chew toys and what are not by spraying them on the forehead with a water gun when they had their mouths wrapped around inappropriate items. It took about 2 days for them to figure it out. I have had 5 rabbits over the past decade and it worked on all of them. I only have a baby gate on the laundry room as I don't want anyone sneaking behind the washer and dryer where I can't reach.

This video was very helpful! Thank you. Uhhhhh so I have a quick question i hope you could answer and help me with. So about a a week ago I decided to let my bunny free roam my room, yesterday i woke up to her licking my face at two am! I was surprised at how she climbed my bed so I picked her up and put her down and a couple of minutes later she was back on my bed. I’m not sure what I should do to keep her off. She hasn’t been spayed or neutered yet so I’m trying to figure out what to do in the mean time. I have no problem with her being on my bed but she pees on it :/, so I really hope you get my message, thank you and keep doing what you do, I love you!
