- Sydney Pollack's 1995 remake of "Sabrina," starring Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond may have bombed at the box office, but its elegant, piano-centric musical score by John Williams is a timeless classic. Anchored by a wistful and dreamlike theme, it's a nostalgic gem which hearkens back to the Golden Age of cinema. Learning to play this piece has been a personal goal of mine for the past 20 years. There were times when I thought I would never be able to play it smoothly and with expression, but my frustrations finally gave way to progress when I bought my grand piano and started practicing on a professional instrument. Now those arpeggios are much easier to play, but this is still one of the most challenging pieces in my repertoire.
"Once upon a time, on the northshore of Long Island, not far from New York...."❤ You played it so beautifully
Omggg yessss ❤️
Yes he did!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥️😊
“I told your father I needed you and promised him I would make you happy”....beautifully conveyed and played
I love this movie and the score. I watched the movie again last night. You play beautifully. Just bought the sheet music after listening to this.
One of the most lovely pieces John Williams ever composed. The key changes and modulations are just stunning. I listen to this any time I can't fall asleep. It is so soothing to the soul. It sounds so simple, but it is anything but. It is complex in the extreme and demonstrates Williams genious.
Perfect for a snowy February afternoon...Thank you so much! And 15 times in a row is still not enough...
i really cant even begin to express how beautiful this is. thank you

You & that piano- 2 lovers dancing as one.

Wow.....great job.
So amazing! I’m learning this song right now!!!
How is it going?
Karen Loader actually really good!!
Omg, I have this book called River Flows in You and other eloquent songs. I’ve got my feet wet on a bunch of the songs and just looked this up to follow with the music and this one scares the hell out of me just looking at it. It’s a mess. Sharps and flats thrown in everywhere. Different speeds for one hand, lines all over the place. This has to be difficulty 10+. Good luck, I’ll maybe be there in 10 years 😃
So am I!
Beautiful. Reminds me of “Send in the Clowns”
gosh that was beautiful.. bellisimo!
Great dynamics 👍🏽
Lovely! Thank you for sharing. Regards...
♥️♥️♥️
Bravo from the philippines
Wow!
Beautiful.
One of my favorite movie themes
this was a really awesome cover! you're so talented!
Oh Sir, you play so very lovely; what a beautifully sounding piano and how talented you are as a musician-this song created warm tingles running all the way up and down my back! John, you are the composer of this beautiful piece is that correct or do you just have the names's sake of the actual composer, because you write how this has been a piece that you wanted to play for the past twenty years? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR STORY
Thank you for sharing:)
Thank you.
hermosa pieza!!, graciassss!!!
Amazing!
Sabrina ❤❤❤
love it
Beautiful :)
Belo! Bravo!
Ah, Julia Ormond!
Hermosa pieza! Deseo tocar como tu en su momento. Gracias
Very nice!
Did you buy the music and then learn this piece or is this your own rendition done by ear? It’s absolutely breathtaking!
Hey! I met you today at church with Mike ❤️Would you consider helping me with the choir idea we talked about at the restaurant?
Thank you, clap clap clap clap
Well done! :)
What techniques did you use to get your performance as smooth as this? Did you write in fingering or did you listen to the original recording on a loop? I’m about to start learning this piece, and it’s got me a little anxious.
With this piece, it's very important to emphasize the melody notes and play the flowing arpeggios as lightly as possible. If you have the sheet music, you'll notice that the arpeggios are split between both hands. Make sure that as you transition from the left hand to the right hand, your thumbs are extremely light, so those notes aren't any louder than the others. Use a rolling wrist technique to keep the arpeggios smooth. And yes, I did write in fingerings and listen to the original recording a lot. I think it also helps if your piano has a well regulated action. I had spent about 20 years, off and on, trying to learn this piece on an old worn out digital piano. It never sounded smooth at all, until I bought my Yamaha C2 baby grand. Just concentrate on playing with a light touch, especially with your thumbs, and emphasizing the melody, and this piece will sound awesome when you master it. Best of luck to you!
How kind of you to respond and share your knowledge of how to master this piece. Orchestral transcriptions for piano can be very challenging indeed, and it's so wonderful when accomplished musicians share their knowledge and insights with aspiring artists.
Bravo to you!
