Hi Andy...thanks for the video! Lot of good tips in here. One for you in return...in the settings for the VL3X, you can designate a particular guitar tone preset to be "global". That way once you have your sound dialed in, you can have it in every preset without copy pasting, and then just tweak your effects from there! And any updates you make to that tone will change all you presets in turn.
Hey! I had a global setting once when I used the Voicelive play GTX and it was great! At the moment i'm switching between a few different acoustic guitars so I have various presets dialled in for each guitar to get the best out of all of them!
Hey Andy, GREAT video about the VL3 extreme. One question: Could you please send 2 links to the USB cable that converts the power from the USB Bank to the VL3 and also from the USB powerbank you would suggest? Maybe in the comments here or in the video details (description below)? That would be sooo awesome! Have a great day or/and night and best regards overseas!
Thanks, Andy - this is a great, practical video for gigging the VL3! I have a Fender Smolder pedal, and wondering the best way you would add it to your setup, to deal with/bypass the compression/eq of the BodyRez settings yet also use the reverb/FX of the VL3?
Hi there! I’m trying to decide between this device and the Boss RC-505 for looping and vocal processing, as the RC-505 also offers effects like delay, reverb, and more. I’m mainly focused on singing and voice acting at the moment, but I’d like to gradually add instruments like drums, a small MIDI keyboard, or a flute. Right now, though, I’m planning to focus on using my voice as my primary instrument. I’m interested in building harmonies and creating music with my voice alone, and I’d also love to experiment with character voices for my acting projects. However, I often feel overwhelmed by how complex these devices can be. Do you have any advice on how to get started with either of these without feeling lost or distracted from the creative process? I'd also love to hear your thoughts on why you might choose this option over the Boss RC-505. Thanks for any insights you can share, and I enjoyed watching your video! Best, Chris
Hey!! If you're primary thought it vocal processing, I'd look into the TC gear. It's a shame that they haven't been updated in a while but I think they still kick ass. If it's more looping overall, definitely check out the BOSS stuff. They are the kings at that sort of thing. Happy to answer any more questions etc!

Hi, great stuff seeing how you use this board, just a question, how do you set the harmony switch to work within the guitar preset, and also where do you go to set the harmony value as you did in your video....many thanks, Walter.
I have a VL3 Extreme. It's been a great machine. However, the USB song import will no longer import. It "sees" the tracks but will not import. Any ideas? Lastly, I started to start on-line shopping in case it's s goner. Even called Sweetwater, Musicians Friend, etc. -- and evidently there is nothing currently out there that compares to the handy dandy VL3E. Thanks for your great content.
Have you checked the format of the drive? Might need to check that it's a supported format. These units tend to come and go. When I was trying to buy mine a couple of years ago I really struggled and then they all came in stock at once. Might just be a case of that. Could also be that now that Headrush has launched a smaller version of their Prime called the "Headrush Core", maybe retailers are hoping that more people will lean towards that instead. While it doesn't quite do what the VLX3 can, it's today's closest alternative.
I had The same thing and I returned to factory settings by resetting all system to factory settings and loosing all my automation, after that, I can import audio, but if you get firmware update, the same thing happens again , it will not except audio files
Andy, please help! How do I connect the VL3X to my drummers ears for live band situation? And how can he have a click track running without it comming out through the P.A? Please help!
Are you sending the click from the VLX3? If so, run it out of the headphones out the back into a splitter or equivalent device. Then head into the mixer on the VLX3 and turn down the output of the click to all sources except the headphone out :)
Hi Andy, could you post a link for the cable that you use to convert 5v 2amp to 12v 1amp please? Or let me know the make/model of the cable please? Many thanks and continue the great work!
Hey Matt! I can't find the specifc link for it but there are a couple of places you can get it from. I got mine from Jaycar and it cost around $20. Alternatively, there's a website called MyVolts that also sell them too. I just got my second one from there yesterday although I noticed that it says max output 0.75A. I'm yet to test the MyVolts ripcord but It was reccomended by David Shanhun who uses it. Something to keep in mind is that if you get the one from Jaycar, you'll also need a polarity adapter to switch from positive centre to negative centre. Hope that helps!
Hello thank you for your video. I just want to know which cables do i need just for vocals to mixer to tc ... it is my first time using it and I would love to upgrade my gig life but I have no idea currently what I need lol if you could please help that would be appreciated. Just the names of the cables needed. I have watched alot of videos but it has guitar included so it makes me confused.
Hey Andy , great video ! I have a question.. I like to pre record backup vocals to bring in and out during songs and save them as loop tracks .. I currently do that using the boss rc 500 but I really just wanna downsize and if I can do it all using 1 unit I would prefer that bc I don’t love the rc500.. .. so can I save these vocals as loop tracks using this vl3x and just bring them in and out and have them saved as all different tracks so for example if I play “ take it easy “ I switch to track 12 and that’s the backup vocals for the chorus for that song ??
Hey! I don't have a ton of experience using the VLX3 in this particular way as I use the Headrush Looperboard as my primary looper which you can definitely do that sort of thing. I've played around with the looper on it and it's really what I'd consider a secondary option. David Shanhun used a VLX3 for a longtime as his primary looper before upgrading to the BOSS RC-300. I belivee his experience with regard to the looping etc is that the BOSS has far more options for things like you're describing. Maybe it's worthwhile waiting and upgrading to the new BOSS RC-600 when it's out in a couple of months?
@@AndyGartrell thanks for the reply . I have watched a lot of David’s videos , he’s great . I used the rc30 originally which was great and super functional but it was older and it needed to be upgraded a bit .. then they made the rc300 which was the newer version of the 30 and I’m not a fan .. it’s just way too techy and every single thing on it is customizable which is cool but it’s a royal PIA .. especially because every single memory has its own volume associated with it so if u save the volumes at 50 because in your house that’s where it sounds good but then your playing a gig and u need the volume at 100 you literally have to go into every single memory track and change the volume for each bc there is no system wide setting .. it’s fun to use at home but I would never trust it to play a live gig with . To me it’s just not stage friendly and the older rc 30 is much more user friendly .
Hey there! I'm just using one I bought from K-Mart. I don't think it matters too much as long as you have a 2.4A output from the USB. It goes without saying that the bigger the powerbank, the more you'll get out of it!
Setting a key like you have (F#maj2) always harmonizes your vocal harmonies to that key right? Surely you play songs in different keys... so you set the key every song? What a mission! Unless you sneding midi info to set the relevant key every time. I disable this and use my guitar input as the key... unless Im using my midi keyboard via ableton as a vocoder...
I do play songs in different keys but I generally don't use the harmonies on each song. I have it set up that if I'm playing a song, if I'm playing the root chord within that song, I can set the key just by pushing one button as it recognises that I've changed key. It's similar to how you use the guitar input as the key but I prefer to have it more set in stone as I find the harmonies are a little more stable etc. Using the midi keyboard via ableton as a vocder would sound wicked!!
