Back when country music didn't need a bunch of fancy lights and sound effects. It was just pure good music and talent.
A couple of his didn’t even need two verses, like this one. This is one of my favorite ones from that jazzy, bluesy mid to late 70s stuff he did on RCA.

Hank Williams is a 6 if Merle is a 10. Hank is nowhere near the songwriter or musician Merle was. Hank is the hero of Skoal chewing, Bud Light drinkin, four wheel drive truck driving teenage ‘rebels’. They continue down that path into adulthood. There’s nothing wrong with being in that crowd but they usually aren’t as into the actual music as Merle fans. It’s comparing apples and bowling balls really.
