- I get to sit down with HIFIMAN founder and CEO Dr. Fang Bian and we talk about the newly announced headphone DAC/AMPs (EF499 and EF500) and we discuss the nature of the head-fi market in general.
Thank you, Dr. Fang Bian! I purchased the EF499 as soon as I heard about these a few weeks ago. I love it so much that I purchased a second one for my second location. I use them as the Headphone Amp setup on my nightstand next to my bed. I use a Wiim Pro to stream and feed the signal via Coax into the EF499. It has soooooo much power!!! And it is gorgeous to look at as well. These are extremely well made, all metal case and knobs with a clear piece of plexiglass that covers the metal front panel of the unit. They also weigh quite a bit more than I realized; it is VERY sturdy. I love the EF499!!! :-)
The only recommendation I would make for this video would have been to turn the EF499 & EF500 units around so the viewers could see the front panels of the unit. The EF499 is beautiful Black with Rose Gold knobs and controls. Just gorgeous!!!

I love this company very much. And I have a lot of devices and headphones and DACs & amplifiers. I have a big request to the Dr. Fang Bian and Hifiman group that they will create the opportunity to listen to music on a direct SD card or HDD, I mean transport. Thank you!!!

Wow the EF499 looks really great for the price. If I was in the market for a new DAC/amp, this would definitely be on the short list.
Ok , streaming amp/dac mean bluetooth connection right ?
great overview! may I ask what variation of the philips r2r it has in there? to me it looks like the tda1543. (and also I would love to know if it can stream foobar)
I believe you are correct on the Phillips R2R DAC model. Regarding streaming Foobar I can’t honestly answer. However with both USB and Ethernet input, I suspect there is a good chance Foobar will “see” the unit and be able to communicate with it. But that is more of an educated guess.
