And him having lived there in the 90s would not get you ready for it at all. First the Finnish citizens did not vote for joining Nato. Second for Finland the packt and Nato is strategically not wise for Finland and is counter productive. A 30 year old will retire when 70 years. Retirement payments are indexed which means its not based on how much you pay in. Its nice to spend other peoples money.

So yes, the Finnish citizens decided to join NATO and the process was exactly as required by the constitution. However, not a single party believed their voters would like to say no, so the vote was 188 for, 8 against. The biggest promoters of NATO won the parlamentary elections that followed.
