  • Isabel Roberts was a member of Wright's design team and in 1908 she had this house built at 603 Edgewood Place. It has undergone two renovations in 1922 William Drummond did the first remodeling. He replaced the stucco exterior with brick and moved the door. The second update was done in 1958 by Wright himself who, among other things, moved the door back to it's original location. The home was plagued by leaks but with a tree growing through the middle of it I think your gonna have problems. And like all of Wrights River Forest homes this home is in the historic district.
Just down the street at 530 you will find The Chauncey Williams House from 1895 and see the evolution of Wright's design style over the 13 years.
This series is presented by ChiTownView & produced byMindsiMedia. We are assembling a complete collection of Wright designs still standing in the Chicago area here is a link to a playlist where they are collected.

Also, nice to let us know in the title that we would see only the outside front elevation.

I still have no idea who is Frank Lloyd Wright, and I was never given any knowledge about these homes.

nice house, Once i work on a house that was called the house of the future from the time of a world fair (off site) this was like 40 years after it was built. It was not the future anymore,, it was today. FLW had and eye for landscape mixed with wood and design... cool look timeless.

Unfortunately I had to inform today's owners, that properties iconic Elm Wright had built structure around, succumbed to Dutch Elm disease over summer of 2014. During the same time many local Wright landmarks needlessly lost their 120-130 old "Teenage" American Ash trees to Emerald Ash borer infestations, even though individuals could have easily been protected from tree species modern day extinction event. Presently River Forest is thoughtfully protecting every parkway Ash within this historic "Old growth" forested neighborhood, until danger inevitably passes locally by year 2020. Also that 200 old burr oak with tell tail black stripe on front lawn is a Legacy class "Survey tree", first "landmarked" during the mid 1800's!

+CONCERTMANchicago I live on the 500 block of Ferdinand in Forest Park and we've lost almost all of our older trees over the past ten years.

Why does no one want to live in a FLW house .? Simply because they do not work in practice . FLW 's work is more sculpture than architecture - therefore let his houses become sculptures , providing accommodation for farm animals or wild animals such as foxes , badgers , pigeons , who would not mind the unworkable architectural layout and design , but who would be quite happy to have a place to stay.
