Thanks. I did film the other passage right through when it was open. Went down and splashed around in the oil in the pump Room with all the machinery.. Must upload it sometime. I believe it was all sealed a while later after being open so long..
@@Oske.images Yep they have sealed the entire thing good and proper. The fumes is what was worrying them more than anything. People were climbing over the top of the tanks via the service ladders and getting right down into the bottom inside them. And doing this without any breathing gear or gas meters. And as I understand UK common law, the landowner who owns the farm above ground actually owns the parts of the fuel depot under their property. So lots of incentive for them to block access. The money spent blocking access is a lot less than the expense of a wrongful; death suit or charge of criminal negligence.
@@sailwesterly5444 No it isn't. MOD built and operated it during the war and then leased it to the ports to operate and take responsibility for it. While MOD had possession (until they leased it) they had authority over it under the war time regulations that allowed them to build it, and after the war under the peace time statute that applied to it. Once MOD abandoned it (25 years ago) it effectively returned to the ownership of the property owner above ground since UK law specifies that landowners own the land right down to the center of the earth. It's that landowner who plugged all 3 tunnel entrances and recently demolished the emergency exit on the top of the hill, pushing the debris into the stairwell and then pouring concrete over the top.
@@johnrauner2515 Beg to differ there - it's still definitely MOD - I know for a fact - despite being decommissioned in 1992, it's still held by them as asset-in-waiting. Her two sister sites of similar design - Inchindown and Orkney are now held by the surface Landowner - Portsdown Hill is different - land to farmers on there is only ever leased. The whole place is far too tactically important to ever be owned by us commoners.
I've not checked for some time, but heard a while ago that all entrances are now sealed with huge slabs of reinforced concrete. 😕. One guy I know checked this one and said it was sealed this year. I checked a northern entrance when passing last year. And it looked incredibly well sealed. I can't see the locals opening it again any time soon I'm afraid.
@@Oske.images thanks! Yeah I visited the north entrance a couple of weeks ago and it is pure concrete sealing the whole entrance! Unfortunately I think I'm too late. But will keep searching! Cheers for the info. Subbed!
I saw a video elsewhere of the inside of one of the 5 underground tanks I remember it was five. Access was through one of the four pipes in the wall.. obviously they're empty but massive over 5.6 million gallons.. 780Lx30Wx52H size
Hi, yes. The guy I was with squeezed through a greasy hole and I stayed on the dry side to push stuff through to him, and help get back through.. He hoped a video. I have a very lengthy in depth tour of the larger part to edit & upload sometime. 👍 I believe all entrances are very securely sealed now. Pity. I wanted one more visit to photograph it better.
@@Oske.images it would be very cool to see that video at some point in time. The video I was referring to was actually on the TV episode Mysteries of the abandoned. Lots of cool information about the premises.
That is a fantastic tunnel - you must have been at least a quarter of a mile underground at the end point. I notice that the grafitti doesn't last very long down the tunnel, which is a good thing. The ambient noise down there is superb - I expect, like the Invergordon fuel depot, the echo in the oil bunkers themselves would be astonishing. I was wondering if those covers on those couple of bunkers had been removed because some person thought that they might be able to squeeze themselves into the empty tank, as you can in Invergordon, but these openings seem a lot smaller than 18". And why do people always lift sump covers up? The outside entrance, with it's revetted blast walls looks wonderfully menacing - just the ideal place to set a Doctor Who episode; I can imagine the TARDIS sitting there... Great film, I really enjoyed it.
brianartillery Hi. Thanks for comments. Yes, it is possible to get through the pipes (for some) My colleague went in with disposable clothing , plastic etc etc, still got bloody filthy & smeared up with grease.. 😊 I've filmed most of the longer tunnels nearby, and hope to return soon to complete lower rooms. I'll then put it all together for a good tour video.. Tunnels are lots steeper & way way longer than this one.. 😉👍
Olivia Clark A friend sent me a link to an online site that showed that this & other related entrances nearby to such places are all now sealed with welded metal doors and also have concrete in front of them too. A shame, as I was hoping to return for the sake of taking photos. :-/
I want to ask if you notice that RevengeLawn was in the Portsdown Fuel Bunker with you. Anyway, I want to say this bunker makes echoes the same way the Underworld, the domain of Hades, the Lord of the Dead, does.
MrWightHD Correct Sir. Not on the island. That was why it wasn't listed as such. I did video the better tunnels, but need to return with more light, (and a change of clothes.) 😊
Ahh, the good old days - when you could still get in to the South East Portal. All long gone now.
1am in the morning,on my own.. 6:52 literally ascended to heaven..rip.
Ooops.. sorry. 😬
😂😂😂
That brick wall at 13:20 - I think this is the original construction access when they were built in 1938.
Nice to see a good quality video of this tunnel instead of the one on the other end of the tanks.

Isle Of Wight Alternative Attractions..... Indeed, the traffic noise gives it away if I am correct. Amazing condition down there
