This is the best comparison demonstration I've heard. The same player, the same chord changes on each instrument, segue without TALKING in between. That was well done because the only variable was the instrument. Thanks for that.
One of best comparisons I've seen; the strumming of each at the end was very helpful. Thanks.
almost 12 years later..
and this is still one of the BEST videos on the uke out there!
i wanna learn from this guy. cool style. 😎 🌊
This was EXACTLY what I was looking for to try to figure out which kind of ukulele I should start with! Thanks so much!
I've started to learn how to play the ukulele since last Saturday. 😁😁😁
What a great set of demos & explanations! I too especially like the edited, back-to-back comparison toward the end. Thanks!
thank you, this was a very informative video with good audio. I've longed for a ukulele for a while now but since found out there is more than a few types, I checked into types of wood they were made out of and wanted a mahogany for a longer lasting instrument. with this video is FINALLY came to a conclusion that I will settling with a soprano!
thanks again!
You're a great player Aaron!I loved how you described and explained all that different kinds of ukuleles. Also, you were pretty calm in the process of the video. You would make a great teacher of musical instruments and thanks for the video. It was really helpful!
great video. really wrapped it up nicely by going back through all of them in sequence to hear the difference
love your video!!! especially the end was very helpful where you play the same thing on all the ukes and edited it so that i could really hear the difference! Concert is the one for me!
Absolutely brilliant comparison!! Thank You so much :)
I bought my tenor about 3 years ago based largely on this review - it's the best £200 ever spent on an instrument IMO - beautifully made, comfortable to play (I have small hands but find the stretches not too bad) and the sound is much better than this video can show - with fluorocarbon strings it sounds even better.
Thanks for the awesome review. Huge help for those of us shopping around and getting familiar.
best video I've found on this, best player too - thank you!
Great video!! I like the concert one 💗
Love your reviews! So informative and fun. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. I just bought a concert uke based on your demonstration.
Im glad i come across your video, brilliant comparison! Now i know what to get for a first uke, tenor it is!
Very well made video with great information and demonstration.
Thank you for the comparrisons!
I found this video very helpful. Best comparison and demonstration video out there.
Great demo of them. Thinking about buying one and use it as a travel guitar. Thanks!
Personally, I think the Concert is the perfect size. While, yes, it is bigger than the Soprano, its still retains the feel of an ukulele. The Tenor, on the other hand, kind of delves more into the realm of a small guitar, which can create a bit of a strange vibe taking into account the sounds it can create. None the less, I can appreciate larger men wanting an ukulele to fit there size and comfort level.
I love this review, by the way. Really clear in distinguishing the differences between each size. Thank you for helping me along the way of picking my ukes :)
I agree, concert is the ideal size ! I even tried a long neck soprano which is a concert neck on a soprano, and prefer the concert body sized fuller tone...🎼
Thanks to HMS for posting this. Beginners have no idea which size to buy. I bought the wrong size the first time. Glad I only wasted $40!
Nickie McNichols...but you bought a ukelele that someone else could use...so not wasted (".)
I love my concert, but the tenor I have is way louder so works better with a guitar or with other uke players.
I Love the sound test, when I do it at home among my Ukes I can't hear that much of a difference, but I hear it here.
This guy always gives very good reviews on Ukuleles. I'm a Drummer, but I own and play a few uke's. my main one is a Baritone, but I also have two soprano ukuleles. the Baritone is much like a regular guitar. very easy to play, and easy to write songs on.
I agree with Julian ~ very helpful video, particularly the end section ~ thank you!
great informative vid! Helps me a lot with my first Uke purchase.
Thank you for this video, I wanted to get a kala concert ukulele, but I wanted to know what it sounded like. Thank you so much, I enjoy it ALOT.
Best comparison on UA-cam. Thank you.
Hey, great video, very helpful. I was lucky to come across a Kala mahogany soprano early on, so started with decent quality. I am about to begin travelling a lot so just invested in a Kala mahogany pocket, but have also been looking at a Kala tenor... the direct comparison is very useful, thanks very much!
Awesome demo!
Cool, just sent this video to my friend. He's trying to decide what size to get. And this will help him better then me just explaining them. Love that sopranissimo
concert format is very good ! the good balance
That baritone sure sounds nice also! It has sort of a "dreamy" sound. Love it! :-)
Thanks for showing us the differences.
Really helpful as I knew nothing about ukes and am buying one for my husband as a surprise 😀
Ooh, that baritone sounds nice!
very helpful!!! id love to get a tenor uke! right now i have a soprano...
Thanks for your demonstration, really useful!
I got the KALA tenor, I love the thing so much, but my lord that baritone
You are a great uke player! You can really play! Thanks!
Very worthwhile evaluation. I already have a KALA spalted maple tenor and love it. But I'm always looking for something better. Something in solid mahogany perhaps.
oh, thanks! That was exactly what I was searching for!
Great video, thanks for it, clarified lots of things about different ukuleles and you pronounce Sopranissimo perfectly! Ciao by italy
Would you mind putting up the chords (or tabs) for the song you used to demonstrate each size at the end of the video? I'm learning and would really like to play that tune. Great video! Thanks!
Great playing,
Great demo
I love the tenor one!
That itsy-bitsy uke is uber-cool. Great vid.
Bought a Kala ukulele today based on this video. I wish I could of bought the exact model but due to the price I chose a cheaper Kala, but if I get good and play it a lot I am definitely buying the exact model from this video. Thanks for the great video!!
fantastic review! thanks!
I was thinking of getting a tenor as my second uke, but in this video I like the sound of the concert better!
Nice job!
Yes you can get GCEA strings for the Baritone Uke. Look around. They're out there.
Very informative video. Thank you!
hi and thanks for the video
i want a Kala and all solid (like acacia -Mahogany)
but i hesitate between a Kala cutaway concert eq too
@OkiCoCo I just tried one out at my store and bought it, its not a "solid wood" apparently like the one in this video. But the sound is amazing! I tried the tenor version as well, but was sold on the concert because it suits my style best.
Great demonstration. Thank you! :-)
I play a Tenor... but now have a Soprano... Love the li'l guy.
@man0fsteal I tried it on mine, and every time I tuned the C string, I heard almost a cracking under the bridge. When I tried it on my friends ukulele, which was a much cheaper model, the string literally popped off. They do make GCEA strings for baritones though. If your going to be buying one, I highly recommend considering a tenor. Because you have more options, and It's a heck of a lot easier to play.
great job! :) dude, i want a tutorial for the demo on the last part. i find it cool! hehe
Is Steinberg uk-6 a good uke? Nice review!! Thank u!
Thank you for the demo. I like pronouncing it You-kulele...so I do. People have their ways of saing things.
I am looking to buy a solid wood ukulele. I started out a few years ago with a concert from the Luna Mahogany Tattoo series. However, I'd really like to buy a Kala ukulele. Right now I'm torn between the solid Mahogany concert and the solid Ovangkol concert. Does anyone have any insight into which ukulele I should buy?
That baritone is sexy af I asked for that for Christmas can't wait to play it
Baritone is more like on the acoustic guitar category because it doesn’t have that ukulele tune
@OkiCoCo Get a Cordoba tenor cutaway with the pickup. Retail its $200 and it sounds AMAZING.
Do you have an opinion on the Kala "Butterfly" Bocote Wood Concert Size Ukulele? Have you heard it played?
I am just looking for a midrange priced concert or Tenor uke that plays nice. Any suggestions?
I was hoping to hear more from the instruments.
What's your feeling about the Kala KA 15 (laminate) for a first uke.
Hey Bra......fantastic.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! (:
the first ukulele can fit in my backpack xD
i wished for a kala uke and if money aint a problem (i live in the philippines), i might go to hawaii and buy one :bd
Can a Tenor be carried with you on board of an airplane while traveling?
Man U are good!
This vid is 'old' now, but I regard Kala as one of the best you can get- certainly within the 'production' catagory! They are also the budget player's friend, as the import line is also of almost ridiculous quality!
Hi everyone, could anybody explain to me the strumming please? Thanks
thx!
The tiny one can also be used as a back scrstcher
Why don't they make ukus with wider necks?
sopranino is possibly what it should be called?
what song is he playing?
What song is he playing?
Actually Sopranissimo is not a standard Italiano word....kind of hyper-soprano the meaning
Are the frets made from quality metal or are they cheap-ass soft aluminum that wears away quickly? How about string heigth at the base and top of the neck? Is it very low near the pegbox and really high near the body? In otherwords, is this a quality brand worth the money or just some indian/chinese knockoff made from apple crate woods?
Are this ukes made from real wood? Thanks
It should since it is the bottom four strings of a guitar.
Like I have a guitar it would be redundant to but a Baritone since its basically a four string guitar. I know is not but basically. So tenor.
hey i play gitar but i want to star playing the ukelele also. I want to buy a good ukelele. Can you recomend me a good one?
***** thanks but im thinking off buying a tenor one they are th most used right?
dani west Soprano is the most widely played. If you want something with a bit more finger room, go for a concert.
As he Aaron stated, tenors are mostly used even for those professionals. I would recommend tenor because adults' palms are rather big. Like aaron said he finds tenor most comfortable.
what size is the best for singing accompaniment?
hey mate your question is old but you dont seem to have gotten answer It all comes down to personal choice and range of your voice for example i sing to low for a soprano but a tenor works perfectly
Its actually all about your tone right? Colton Davis Thanks ton by the way :)
Baritone sounds like a guitar lol. Takes away that ukulele sound. I can hear the difference even on a cheap earphone. Soprano i think has that perfect light tone. Others has a warmer tone.
I love the way you say ukulele
sorry if that sounds weird
Where are you guys located?
Adrian Jaden Hawaii Music Supply went out of business. However, they now only focus on selling their ukulele's. www.theukulelesite.com/
Elienguitar I actually saw their store on google maps, although, it must've not updated. Thanks anyways!
I play piccolo so that little ukulele could fit right in lol
and puking isn't a Hawaiian word. he's pronouncing it correct. in Hawaiian, u's make the "oo" sound. mainlanders add the y at the beginning since that's what their used to. same as how the e's make the "eh" sound
I would love to own a supranoissimo ukulele how much do they cost ??
Its just people first impressions will think something negative . but u do u I shouldn't have made a comment
Si comunque si dice sopranissimo XD
If anyone wanna buy a ukulele I would suggest concert size because it has the closest ukulele tune.”
Im not mark oh because I was planning on getting a Kala ka 15s soprano uke but now idk 😢
*m8* I mean if you want a strong ukulele volume I would say get a concert size but if you just want to play you can get soprano it’s small and travel size
Im not mark OK thanks I'll just stick to a soprano and if I'm gonna go hard core playing ukulele I can buy a concert one later on if I need to :)
Did anyone else think the pocket size was a soprano and thought this guy was a giant? Lol, great video!
😂 I did
Yeah
That was the first thing came into my mind! lolz.
Nope. I can add this to my collection of tiny violin, tiny pocket guitar, pocket trumpet and pocket harp.
