100% correct. I contacted 4 dealerships online about a 2024 ZR2 Colorado asked them for an OTD price. 2 didn't want to give me that...played the game just as you said they would. I politely replied no thank you and moved on. The remaining dealers did via. text message (screen shots). I went with the best price. They did ask if I was interested in paint protection, gap insurance, interior protection, etc. I declined all except for an 8 year extended warranty, got a discounted price; prior military. Then we talked about trad in, negotiated rates. I believe if you contact a dealer, show them you're educated on the buying process, be polite, but firm you will have a better experience. What’s your OTD price you need to make this deal happen right now? I’ve been at this a long time and - run - if they ever say “You sound like a very educated car buyer and we like that.” Hahahhhahah.
The most recent tactic I've seen is they will only give the OTD based on the advertised price, not an actually lower price you could potentially negotiate. It's how they are leveraging the "deal" process now. If the price stays the same as the original advertised price, that is not the OTD price, that's just what they are telling you is the OTD price. You'd think that would drive business away BUT no if the majority of dealers are now doing this then it forces a change in how the vehicle buying process goes.
Great advice, Jason! I've long known ADP and ADM. I know what OTD price is, but the car dealers I've worked for going back to the late 1960's, left the OTD price up to their "closer." Not being myself a scam artist, I never did well selling vehicles for dealerships where I, as the sales person, couldn't also "close the deal." (That ruled out virtually every dealership except myself. Sales managers knew I had no interest in selling customers worthless extras.)
once I learned how to purchase vehicles, not only do I get good deals but the process is painless how you handle the situation, and the process you choose has everything to do with your experience, sure you will have to go thru dealerships at times but you wont be wasting your time doing it, you weed them out quickly and from home.....its a very simple process with only a few numbers to be concerned with.....rest of it is just noise..... if your timid, lack confidence, or believe they have your best interest in mind your gonna get taken for ride or hear numbers you wont like......they arent your friends nor are they suppose to be, its just business and you have all the control because you have the money!
I've bought a lot of trucks like you. Most salesmen I have dealt with can read customers pretty well. They can usually tell who they can play the games with and which ones they can't. I did have one salesman come back to me after I asked for OTD with "you payment would be ... ". I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him that is not what I asked you for. Go back and try again. Only happened once.
I'm going to try this on a 24 Rubicon sitting on a lot for three months now. I'll let you know how it works out. It's a great time to buy, sales are dead between Christmas and New Years. We got a great deal on a Jeep for my daughter three years ago at this time of year.
This is advice that everyone needs to know. It's amazing how hard it can be to get OTD pricing. None of the jeep dealers near me will do it - They won't even give me a number. I always end up several hours away when I'm looking and trying to negotiate a deal.
My favorite time at the lot is when it's closed. Sundays. Only when I've done ALL my homework right to the last option, and everything else, I'll go for a test drive to see if anything surprises me. Nothing ever did. Autoshows are handy if you have one near you. When I go for a saleman, I know what price I want out the door. By then, I know pretty close to what the most discount I can expect. It's cash. If there's a trade, I know pretty close to what that's going to be. I only did it twice, '07 and '19, but it worked out according to plan. I don't talk to a salesman with a real intention to buy until I know exactly what I'm buying. It can take a couple of years of deciding everything first. If I'm in for an oil change, and a salesman wants to shoot the breeze, I'll probe him for whatever interesting things he may say off-guard when he's shooting the breeze and he knows I'm not buying. If there's a truck in the showroom or at the Autoshow, I already know what the seats are like, but Ill check that out long before I'm ready to deal. It would be fun to do this more often, but it's too expensive. I may do it one last time if I see the EPA closing the door on what I want in the upcoming model year. One shouldn't be taken by surprise if AFM or GPF or whatever is coming in the next roll-out. Just keep ear to the ground.
Many dealers refuse to give me otd's. And the ones who do clearly show how rotten their deals are. 1800 extra in glass etching and fancy wax, 1300 extra delivery fees (even though it's built into the msrp). I've sadly always been a payment buyer but thanks to your many vids and other content teaching otd's, never again. To all dealers, no otds, no sale!!
We are gradually moving to a time where dealerships have made themselves obsolete. It’s possible that if they keep this up, consumers will purchase their vehicles online. My buddy purchased his vehicle on Car Guru’s. He said it was zero hassle. He set his distance preferences, set his price, trim, etc. The truck he selected popped up, he made an offer, the dealer countered, he accepted and the truck was shipped. He said the shipping cost included, still came under budget and was worth the shipping cost, to avoid the headaches of stepping on a dealer lot.
This is why I only deal with fleet sales even for personal sales. But I always pay cash or have my own financing arranged and never have a trade as part of the deal
It's such a a tiring dance that you have to do with these dealers, but if you know how to do it right, you can win the deal before you even step on the dealer lot. The old sales manager at my old job taught me exactly how to do it, and It's worked well for me every time.

When i bought my trail boss, i dealt directly with the sales manager and he told me flat out the dealership was only making $1000 off my deal, and I believed him. I jewwed them down soooo much, he told me that Hey, its better to make $1000 than lose the sale. Thats the kinda dealer I can deal with. Lots of dealers out there, lots of competition
I'm going through that right now with two dealerships, one on a new Frontier Pro-4x, and one on a used Frontier SV 4x4. They gave me the OTD but they have their BS dealer add on's. I have told them get rid of it and they are arguing the point, i have told them take it off or I will go somewhere else. Great thing is it has all been through text and emails. So I have yet to set foot on the lot.
Yeah, I asked a couple dealers for an OTD price and they refused. One guy told me that he didn’t want me to shop his price. One Nissan dealer in particular would not give me a price. He said that he couldn’t give me a price unless I promised to buy the SUV. I replied that I couldn’t agree to buy anything until I had a price. BTW, this was over 30 years ago when Nissan was still building decent vehicles.
I’m buying a truck in Feb/March. I’d love to stay local, but it might not be possible. I’m asking for the OTD, and if they push back, I’m telling them: “I have friends and family literally all over the country. Going to another dealership that WILL give me the OTD is a very real option for me. All I need is a reason to travel. It’s not a big deal to me. OTD, or I walk.” And payment options: they’ve asked me if I have a number in mind for my payments. I say yes, I have a number. Since I’m paying 100% cash, THAT is my payment number…but they don’t know that. 😆🤣
Had an OTD price from the dealership in another state and a Buyer's agreement that was acceptable but i made a big mistake by not electronically signing agreement before starting out on 2 day drive to Louisiana from Colorado. Specifically asked them what they needed from me to hold the ZR2 and they said "nothing, we'll see you Monday". I set off for 1200 mile trip in my trade vehicle and got halfway there when they texted me saying they sold truck that morning.. sorry. They could have communicated that to me much earlier in the day and saved me 2 days of driving and a hotel room cost, but didn't until late in the afternoon. Just wanted to share with others to never think you have an agreement until you have that Buyer's agreement signed and locked in. I'm sure they got more money from somebody else and quickly kicked me to the curb. Asked for a manager to call me but dont expect them to call.
Asking for OTD is a good way to find out if a dealer is gonna add a bunch of junk fees.. but, dealers without junk fees roll their eyes because the taxes aren't something they can negotiate. Maybe just ask what fees besides the price the dealer charges - since that is actually what you are asking anyway
you should already know fees beside taxes are docs and tag/title. i have yet to buy a vehicle with any other illegitimate fees, it has always been docs, tag/title, and tax. but then again, i have always bought new vehicles, have yet to buy used.
Iv never negotiated a car based on payment amount with any dealer. I make them give me a final OTD price on paper that I can take back to my credit union. I will then tell the dealer what my credit union intrest rate is that I have been pre approved for. If they can beat the intrest rate I already have then I MIGHT use oem financing.
I bought my truck last year from a coffee shop. I contacted about 10 dealers and found best OTD price without dealer add ons 4 hours away. Most dealers would say come in to talk about it and would not answer if they would remove dealer add ons. The process took me about 90 minutes to make. It was so much better than my previous new car purchases.
They can charge all the stuff with OTD, it is just easier to hide the add ons when they give you a monthly payment. They prefer for you to finance due to manufacturer financing incentives, also generally they can sell more via financing. Also most buyers use monthly so they are used to the monthly drill because that’s what most do. It’s like going to McDonalds and ask for a Big Mac with no lettuce . So don’t trip too much on your OTD thing. It’s okay to say “Out the door”. No need for an acronym for single syllable word”. 😊
Easier to just offer $1500 over cost including doc. Serious buyer here but I’m not paying someone $10k to sell me a truck. Works but takes a few weeks and calls come towards end of month like magic
I bought my first truck in Massachusetts,damn they were mad about I could pay the OTD(no finance),then they tried to screw me and finance my taxes? I’m a New Hampshire resident,I pay no sales tax !!!!!!
When figuring my target price I start with the estimated invoice and dealer holdback. Knowing the dealer still needs to make a profit, works better for me to have a better estimate of the basement.
What I am seeing is that the higher end trucks will have some discounts and incentives but they are not going much below that. I tried to get another $500 of to secure the deal and they wouldn't take it. In all fairness inventory was slim on that color & model so they didn't want to budge. I did get free delivery (one hour away). I was running out of time to buy before the end of the year. Generally speaking, every dealer I asked gave me OTD price in writing.
Yup, just purchased a heavy duty truck. They are already discounted decently. Tried to get a dealership to price match. Took several hours and they only agreed as I was about to walk out the door. They claimed they were breaking even at that point. Told them I would purchase for 500 less. However, I ended up buying at a different dealership with a truck that suited me better. That dealership showed me the invoice pricing. They were about 2,000 below it already.
Two big problems, vehicle reliability and pricing. Manufacturers are making increasingly unreliable vehicles and dealers can't provide a straightforward price.
The sales guy on the phone at the dealership can give you any OTD price he wants because when you get there the sales manager will tell you that's an invalid quote and you have to deal with him... The sales manager... It's a war between you and the Stealership😊😊😊
I got bait-and-switched on the truck I was looking at $56k price online but when I got there for my appointment they wouldn't budge off the $66k window price and then they sold the truck 2 days later to someone else these dealerships suck.
There is another way to cut price! Went to test drive from the dealer and I took it to other dealerships and salesman looked at me ‘’what are u doing?’’ So I told him that im test driving and if u got better deal let me see and from previous dealer they told me $40k but this new place told me $29k so now I knew I was in control and got my deal👍👍💯 this happen in 2004 and got SVT lightning! Test drive to other dealerships they HAVE no time to waste on u or play games💯 now buying with cash I’m always in control of deals! 2019 f150 saleen black label first they ask for $96k and told them I’m paying cash got it down $71k with extra stuff added! (Extra $4k)
It's a game and it's a game I really do enjoy along with that new car smell. When I walk into a new car showroom, the sales people get that special look that says; Here he is he's back tor another OTD price ! and top dollar for his trade.
You don’t need an OTD price. Just use the list price and just decline all the add ons in finance. They’ll try to intimidate you with scare tactics but just ignore.

I know I am dating myself but when I purchased my first brand new vehicle in 2005 it was a Honda Civic they would say the out the door price vie email. There was a trust factor I went in and purchased the vehicle. Now days I have experienced so many tactics as stated it is ridiculous...!
'O.T.D.' is an acronym comprised of 3 words...the real word you should be familiar with when negotiating with car dealerships is 'Research'. When you are familiar with 'Floorplan', 'Holdback', 'Buy Rate' & 'Advertising Assistance'...it makes the salespersons head spin...😂😂
This is one of many reasons why I want to be able to buy direct from the manufacturer. The laws have to change so we can buy direct. Turn stealerships in to repair and warrant centers. I know what I want I dont need a stealership salesman to rip me off.
Yes they can charge you all the things you mentioned they can't. However it will still be part of the otd price. OTD is the final price with or without all their bs. They know you are comparing and dealers have less ability to run their scams with an otd number.
A good salesman is not afraid of anything, a good salesman will know how to get you into that car. The problem is the customer goes in not knowing what a fair/good deal is before going in. Some folks go in expecting the salesman to convince them what a good deal. Dealers are not really "scared" of otd.
You use the word good salesman. That is true. But today those are buried and hidden behind a wall of bad ones. The bad ones rock the ship for the good ones. Was just talking to a local sales guy asking him what he hated most about being a salesman. He said fighting thru the bad taste customers have from dealing with shady sales guys in the past. They come in defensive and ready to fight. Until they realize no shade tree stuff here
I don’t know what state you’re talking. I sold cars for 25 years in California high-end men low and low in cars and I’ve never heard OTC by any of us and I work finance as well as the desk as well as the line never heard that terminology at least here in Californiainteresting
I am about to buy a new car that's coming in February. I'm going to try to get it for TSP or MSRP but I will pay what I have to because the next dealership that I would deal with is over 200 miles away and I don't think they will deal either.

FICO scores are everything when financing....regardless if its a car, home, etc get them from FICO not a 3rd party like credit karma you should know your scores before even looking fico 8,9, and 10 auto scores from all 3 bureaus
You know you got the right dealer and salesmen when he is ok you going to you’re credit union and you buy the car truck once you got the truck at a decent apr you can refi even a month apart if need to some credit unions are a headache to buy easier to refi another trick is find out a truck that has been trying to be sold for 2 month or even more if used will give you leverage.
I think it’s funny, at least you can negotiate at a dealership. Walk into a lumber store, grocery store or most any other store and you just pay asking. These channels “exposing” the auto industry crack me up. As if we all didn’t know there are add ons and mark up in vehicles lol.
I had a dealer call me on Black Friday and said they have deals on the car I was looking for I was actively out that day looking for vehicle so went down there did all the paperwork the sales guy was actually quite nice all the way through I said yeah I'm here cuz you was told you had Black Friday deals on the vehicle when we got to the numbers I asked well where's your dealer discount and where's the black Friday discount and I was told that the vehicle didn't qualify for Black Friday discount on The dealer discount was MSRP and I said okay I'm leaving
They also try to get cute with 'TSRP' vs 'MSRP'. Jason you were spot on, once someone says 'OTD', you can hear their heart sink over the phone, because they know they are in for a chess match.
Don’t be affraid to go on cargurus and email 10 dealers asking for an OTD on a specific truck that you might be interested in. . If they really want to sell. Theyl give it to you.
Having working in the automotive retail space for about 20 years now…I can tell you that absolutely no dealer cares about OTD. They’re not scared of it at all. The reality is that most people don’t care about OTD as much as they do payment. That is mostly customer driven. We could have a vehicle advertised for $10,000 off and their first question is “what’s my payment ?”
Interesting as I was looking at trucks today and the HEAD SALESMAN (self identified as) came out to speak with me. I was not mean but not nice. He stopped trying after a few minutes and told me "I can tell you are a no nonsense guy. I can give you the Out The Door Price. He then said come inside and I'll get your number. My response was take my name and number. You have your phone in your hand. Take my number and call me with that price". He did!!

I always tell the salesman I'm paying cash for the vehicle to get the OTD price. Sometime after getting the price I let them know I want to finance the deal and ask for a greater discount If I let them finance it. If I don't like their interest rate I go with a different bank or credit union. Never show your hand and always lie about financing until the end. They won't mind it's all part of the "game" of negotiating.
So...let me fill you in , .my Fellow Michigander. So I gave my local dealorship a chance to meet or beat my price of $38, 672 of the trailboss I want. They took the bait. They agreed to it. The only problem is they have to get the truck from some other dealor. Which they offered and said oh yeah it's no problem, easy peasy. So they send me the purchase order with that price and a vin number for another Trail Boss. I Then they said we will need a $1,000 deposit to get the truck here. I asked if it was refundable and they called me and said yes it is. I asked for a written picture of them saying it is refundable if the truck gets here and I don't like it for some reason. Like if it has issues or dents or whatever. They CALL me again and say oh yeah after you pay it , we will send u a receipt. I said , well I actually need something in writing before I send it. Then I said , oh it is gonna be trucked here right? He said no we were gonna drive it. I geuss it is 150 miles away. I was like no , I prefer it be trucked here so it doesn't have any miles on it. The next day (today) manager calls me scolding me like I am a kid and says u want this truck for this price and now u want us to truck it here?!!! That costs us money! I said well u guys said u beat any deals and im just asking if you can match this deal?! He continues scolding and then says i am being wishy washy and they need a signed CONTRACT before they truck the truck here now!! So, the 1k deposit is off the table now (because I asked for a refundable written receipt) and now I have to purchase it before seeing it!!!! WTF?!!! I honestly couldn't believe my ears. I told him absolutely not. I am not buying a truck without seeing it. He goes on to say if there's something wrong with it they would refund me . Blah, blah, blah. Can u believe that? It doesn't seem right to me. I haven't been mean or anything. I think the manager is pist they agreed to such a good deal or something and they want to end the deal. What would u do? He left it as if u want us to do it , we need the signed contract by Dec 31st.

@AncientAdventures sounds like the kicker for them was the cost and set up of having to truck the truck. Thats much more money than sending a porter to go get it. And your dealer needs to bring a vehicle to that other dealer to exchange. Now thst one would have to trucked or 2 vheciles and 2 porters sent on the trip. With a deal that good I can see how that would piss off the sales manager. Personally I would tell them the porter can go get it, and then check it all over well before buying. The 150 miles will not count against your warranty or anything like that. Everything starts at the odometer reading when you take delivery. Another option is to offer to pay 500 to have it trucked over. But they need this sale done and signed before the 31st for the sale to count for this year. They most likely can't schedule a truck in that short of time.
@Jason-Samko ok. I was wondering what you thought. Maybe I will do the 1k deposit tomorrow and tell them they can porter it. However, it still seems weird they can't get a picture of it...also it is supposed to have cruise control and according to the vin , it doesn't. The dealor assured me it did though...
Another great video and great advice. OTD is always my first question. I recently purchased a Honda Accord for my wife. You wouldn't believe how many dealers refused to give me OTD over the phone. I found three dealers willing to provide this number. I actually went with a dealer that had a slightly higher OTD because of the easy and professionalism the dealership showed me during the entire process. BTW... I really need to work on my interaction with salesmen/dealerships....I easily get defensive and nasty when they start their game. Keep up the great work! I really enjoy these videos

If there's a truck in the showroom or at the Autoshow, I already know what the seats are like, but Ill check that out long before I'm ready to deal.
It would be fun to do this more often, but it's too expensive. I may do it one last time if I see the EPA closing the door on what I want in the upcoming model year. One shouldn't be taken by surprise if AFM or GPF or whatever is coming in the next roll-out. Just keep ear to the ground.

Many dealers refuse to give me otd's. And the ones who do clearly show how rotten their deals are. 1800 extra in glass etching and fancy wax, 1300 extra delivery fees (even though it's built into the msrp). I've sadly always been a payment buyer but thanks to your many vids and other content teaching otd's, never again. To all dealers, no otds, no sale!!

We are gradually moving to a time where dealerships have made themselves obsolete. It’s possible that if they keep this up, consumers will purchase their vehicles online. My buddy purchased his vehicle on Car Guru’s. He said it was zero hassle. He set his distance preferences, set his price, trim, etc. The truck he selected popped up, he made an offer, the dealer countered, he accepted and the truck was shipped. He said the shipping cost included, still came under budget and was worth the shipping cost, to avoid the headaches of stepping on a dealer lot.
This is why I only deal with fleet sales even for personal sales. But I always pay cash or have my own financing arranged and never have a trade as part of the deal

It's such a a tiring dance that you have to do with these dealers, but if you know how to do it right, you can win the deal before you even step on the dealer lot. The old sales manager at my old job taught me exactly how to do it, and It's worked well for me every time.

You have to learn asap how to squeeze dealerships. When i bought my trail boss, i dealt directly with the sales manager and he told me flat out the dealership was only making $1000 off my deal, and I believed him. I jewwed them down soooo much, he told me that Hey, its better to make $1000 than lose the sale. Thats the kinda dealer I can deal with. Lots of dealers out there, lots of competition

I'm going through that right now with two dealerships, one on a new Frontier Pro-4x, and one on a used Frontier SV 4x4. They gave me the OTD but they have their BS dealer add on's. I have told them get rid of it and they are arguing the point, i have told them take it off or I will go somewhere else. Great thing is it has all been through text and emails. So I have yet to set foot on the lot.

Yeah, I asked a couple dealers for an OTD price and they refused. One guy told me that he didn’t want me to shop his price. One Nissan dealer in particular would not give me a price. He said that he couldn’t give me a price unless I promised to buy the SUV. I replied that I couldn’t agree to buy anything until I had a price. BTW, this was over 30 years ago when Nissan was still building decent vehicles.
I’m buying a truck in Feb/March. I’d love to stay local, but it might not be possible. I’m asking for the OTD, and if they push back, I’m telling them: “I have friends and family literally all over the country. Going to another dealership that WILL give me the OTD is a very real option for me. All I need is a reason to travel. It’s not a big deal to me. OTD, or I walk.”
And payment options: they’ve asked me if I have a number in mind for my payments. I say yes, I have a number. Since I’m paying 100% cash, THAT is my payment number…but they don’t know that. 😆🤣

Had an OTD price from the dealership in another state and a Buyer's agreement that was acceptable but i made a big mistake by not electronically signing agreement before starting out on 2 day drive to Louisiana from Colorado. Specifically asked them what they needed from me to hold the ZR2 and they said "nothing, we'll see you Monday". I set off for 1200 mile trip in my trade vehicle and got halfway there when they texted me saying they sold truck that morning.. sorry. They could have communicated that to me much earlier in the day and saved me 2 days of driving and a hotel room cost, but didn't until late in the afternoon. Just wanted to share with others to never think you have an agreement until you have that Buyer's agreement signed and locked in. I'm sure they got more money from somebody else and quickly kicked me to the curb. Asked for a manager to call me but dont expect them to call.

Asking for OTD is a good way to find out if a dealer is gonna add a bunch of junk fees.. but, dealers without junk fees roll their eyes because the taxes aren't something they can negotiate. Maybe just ask what fees besides the price the dealer charges - since that is actually what you are asking anyway
you should already know fees beside taxes are docs and tag/title. i have yet to buy a vehicle with any other illegitimate fees, it has always been docs, tag/title, and tax. but then again, i have always bought new vehicles, have yet to buy used.
Iv never negotiated a car based on payment amount with any dealer. I make them give me a final OTD price on paper that I can take back to my credit union. I will then tell the dealer what my credit union intrest rate is that I have been pre approved for. If they can beat the intrest rate I already have then I MIGHT use oem financing.

I bought my truck last year from a coffee shop. I contacted about 10 dealers and found best OTD price without dealer add ons 4 hours away. Most dealers would say come in to talk about it and would not answer if they would remove dealer add ons. The process took me about 90 minutes to make. It was so much better than my previous new car purchases.

They can charge all the stuff with OTD, it is just easier to hide the add ons when they give you a monthly payment. They prefer for you to finance due to manufacturer financing incentives, also generally they can sell more via financing. Also most buyers use monthly so they are used to the monthly drill because that’s what most do. It’s like going to McDonalds and ask for a Big Mac with no lettuce . So don’t trip too much on your OTD thing. It’s okay to say “Out the door”. No need for an acronym for single syllable word”. 😊
Easier to just offer $1500 over cost including doc. Serious buyer here but I’m not paying someone $10k to sell me a truck.

When figuring my target price I start with the estimated invoice and dealer holdback. Knowing the dealer still needs to make a profit, works better for me to have a better estimate of the basement.

What I am seeing is that the higher end trucks will have some discounts and incentives but they are not going much below that. I tried to get another $500 of to secure the deal and they wouldn't take it. In all fairness inventory was slim on that color & model so they didn't want to budge. I did get free delivery (one hour away). I was running out of time to buy before the end of the year. Generally speaking, every dealer I asked gave me OTD price in writing.
Yup, just purchased a heavy duty truck. They are already discounted decently. Tried to get a dealership to price match. Took several hours and they only agreed as I was about to walk out the door. They claimed they were breaking even at that point. Told them I would purchase for 500 less. However, I ended up buying at a different dealership with a truck that suited me better. That dealership showed me the invoice pricing. They were about 2,000 below it already.
Two big problems, vehicle reliability and pricing. Manufacturers are making increasingly unreliable vehicles and dealers can't provide a straightforward price.

The sales guy on the phone at the dealership can give you any OTD price he wants because when you get there the sales manager will tell you that's an invalid quote and you have to deal with him... The sales manager... It's a war between you and the Stealership😊😊😊
I got bait-and-switched on the truck I was looking at $56k price online but when I got there for my appointment they wouldn't budge off the $66k window price and then they sold the truck 2 days later to someone else these dealerships suck.

Went to test drive from the dealer and I took it to other dealerships and salesman looked at me ‘’what are u doing?’’ So I told him that im test driving and if u got better deal let me see and from previous dealer they told me $40k but this new place told me $29k so now I knew I was in control and got my deal👍👍💯 this happen in 2004 and got SVT lightning! Test drive to other dealerships they HAVE no time to waste on u or play games💯 now buying with cash I’m always in control of deals! 2019 f150 saleen black label first they ask for $96k and told them I’m paying cash got it down $71k with extra stuff added! (Extra $4k)
It's a game and it's a game I really do enjoy along with that new car smell. When I walk into a new car showroom, the sales people get that special look that says; Here he is he's back tor another OTD price ! and top dollar for his trade.

You don’t need an OTD price. Just use the list price and just decline all the add ons in finance. They’ll try to intimidate you with scare tactics but just ignore.

'O.T.D.' is an acronym comprised of 3 words...the real word you should be familiar with when negotiating with car dealerships is 'Research'. When you are familiar with 'Floorplan', 'Holdback', 'Buy Rate' & 'Advertising Assistance'...it makes the salespersons head spin...😂😂
This is one of many reasons why I want to be able to buy direct from the manufacturer. The laws have to change so we can buy direct. Turn stealerships in to repair and warrant centers. I know what I want I dont need a stealership salesman to rip me off.

Yes they can charge you all the things you mentioned they can't. However it will still be part of the otd price. OTD is the final price with or without all their bs. They know you are comparing and dealers have less ability to run their scams with an otd number.
What I have noticed is that all the trucks on the lot are all top of the line trucks....all crew cabs ...no extended cabs

A good salesman is not afraid of anything, a good salesman will know how to get you into that car. The problem is the customer goes in not knowing what a fair/good deal is before going in. Some folks go in expecting the salesman to convince them what a good deal. Dealers are not really "scared" of otd.
You use the word good salesman. That is true. But today those are buried and hidden behind a wall of bad ones. The bad ones rock the ship for the good ones. Was just talking to a local sales guy asking him what he hated most about being a salesman. He said fighting thru the bad taste customers have from dealing with shady sales guys in the past. They come in defensive and ready to fight. Until they realize no shade tree stuff here

I don’t know what state you’re talking. I sold cars for 25 years in California high-end men low and low in cars and I’ve never heard OTC by any of us and I work finance as well as the desk as well as the line never heard that terminology at least here in Californiainteresting
I am about to buy a new car that's coming in February. I'm going to try to get it for TSP or MSRP but I will pay what I have to because the next dealership that I would deal with is over 200 miles away and I don't think they will deal either.

What if they ask you what's your FICO score? They will continue to state that the FICO score will determine the interest rates. How true is that??
FICO scores are everything when financing....regardless if its a car, home, etc

You know you got the right dealer and salesmen when he is ok you going to you’re credit union and you buy the car truck once you got the truck at a decent apr you can refi even a month apart if need to some credit unions are a headache to buy easier to refi another trick is find out a truck that has been trying to be sold for 2 month or even more if used will give you leverage.
Credit score is vitality important to the payment amount. But nothingness do with the actual price of the vehicle.

I think it’s funny, at least you can negotiate at a dealership. Walk into a lumber store, grocery store or most any other store and you just pay asking. These channels “exposing” the auto industry crack me up. As if we all didn’t know there are add ons and mark up in vehicles lol.

I had a dealer call me on Black Friday and said they have deals on the car I was looking for I was actively out that day looking for vehicle so went down there did all the paperwork the sales guy was actually quite nice all the way through I said yeah I'm here cuz you was told you had Black Friday deals on the vehicle when we got to the numbers I asked well where's your dealer discount and where's the black Friday discount and I was told that the vehicle didn't qualify for Black Friday discount on The dealer discount was MSRP and I said okay I'm leaving

Used inventory usually has set prices and not much incentives or dealer discounts etc. Usually used otd is very easy to get right away

Having working in the automotive retail space for about 20 years now…I can tell you that absolutely no dealer cares about OTD. They’re not scared of it at all. The reality is that most people don’t care about OTD as much as they do payment. That is mostly customer driven. We could have a vehicle advertised for $10,000 off and their first question is “what’s my payment ?”

Interesting as I was looking at trucks today and the HEAD SALESMAN (self identified as) came out to speak with me. I was not mean but not nice. He stopped trying after a few minutes and told me "I can tell you are a no nonsense guy. I can give you the Out The Door Price. He then said come inside and I'll get your number. My response was take my name and number. You have your phone in your hand. Take my number and call me with that price". He did!!

I always tell the salesman I'm paying cash for the vehicle to get the OTD price. Sometime after getting the price I let them know I want to finance the deal and ask for a greater discount If I let them finance it. If I don't like their interest rate I go with a different bank or credit union. Never show your hand and always lie about financing until the end. They won't mind it's all part of the "game" of negotiating.

So...let me fill you in , .my Fellow Michigander. So I gave my local dealorship a chance to meet or beat my price of $38, 672 of the trailboss I want. They took the bait. They agreed to it. The only problem is they have to get the truck from some other dealor. Which they offered and said oh yeah it's no problem, easy peasy. So they send me the purchase order with that price and a vin number for another Trail Boss. I Then they said we will need a $1,000 deposit to get the truck here. I asked if it was refundable and they called me and said yes it is. I asked for a written picture of them saying it is refundable if the truck gets here and I don't like it for some reason. Like if it has issues or dents or whatever. They CALL me again and say oh yeah after you pay it , we will send u a receipt. I said , well I actually need something in writing before I send it. Then I said , oh it is gonna be trucked here right? He said no we were gonna drive it. I geuss it is 150 miles away. I was like no , I prefer it be trucked here so it doesn't have any miles on it. The next day (today) manager calls me scolding me like I am a kid and says u want this truck for this price and now u want us to truck it here?!!! That costs us money! I said well u guys said u beat any deals and im just asking if you can match this deal?! He continues scolding and then says i am being wishy washy and they need a signed CONTRACT before they truck the truck here now!! So, the 1k deposit is off the table now (because I asked for a refundable written receipt) and now I have to purchase it before seeing it!!!! WTF?!!! I honestly couldn't believe my ears. I told him absolutely not. I am not buying a truck without seeing it. He goes on to say if there's something wrong with it they would refund me . Blah, blah, blah. Can u believe that? It doesn't seem right to me. I haven't been mean or anything. I think the manager is pist they agreed to such a good deal or something and they want to end the deal. What would u do? He left it as if u want us to do it , we need the signed contract by Dec 31st.

@AncientAdventures sounds like the kicker for them was the cost and set up of having to truck the truck. Thats much more money than sending a porter to go get it. And your dealer needs to bring a vehicle to that other dealer to exchange. Now thst one would have to trucked or 2 vheciles and 2 porters sent on the trip. With a deal that good I can see how that would piss off the sales manager. Personally I would tell them the porter can go get it, and then check it all over well before buying. The 150 miles will not count against your warranty or anything like that. Everything starts at the odometer reading when you take delivery.
Another option is to offer to pay 500 to have it trucked over. But they need this sale done and signed before the 31st for the sale to count for this year. They most likely can't schedule a truck in that short of time.
@Jason-Samko ok. I was wondering what you thought. Maybe I will do the 1k deposit tomorrow and tell them they can porter it. However, it still seems weird they can't get a picture of it...also it is supposed to have cruise control and according to the vin , it doesn't. The dealor assured me it did though...
Another great video and great advice. OTD is always my first question. I recently purchased a Honda Accord for my wife. You wouldn't believe how many dealers refused to give me OTD over the phone. I found three dealers willing to provide this number. I actually went with a dealer that had a slightly higher OTD because of the easy and professionalism the dealership showed me during the entire process.
BTW... I really need to work on my interaction with salesmen/dealerships....I easily get defensive and nasty when they start their game.
