I went there some time ago, but couldn't be bothered with the hassle that I knew I would get, so stood further away, but couldn't get as close as you did. Those signs are a complete joke.

I had something of a run in with the security bullies there, who just would not leave me alone, despite trying to teach them the drone laws.
They tried everything from a NFZ, pointless no drone signs, flying in a built up area (25g drone!), image rights, and finally I was a terrorist.
They would not call the police, even though I asked them to do so. In fact, I had to tell them to leave me alone, or I would call the police for harassment as I was on public land.
Got my footage, but ruined it a bit because you don't concentrate enough on what you are filming while being harrassed.
To further the MUFC bully syndrome, they manage to track my employer as I was stupidly wearing a company jacket to keep me warm..... the counter terrorism unit emailed my work, and tried fishing for my details! I was tempted to follow this up, but just couldn't be bothered. My employer was fine, don't know what they were trying to achieve there.
I will return their one day, and continue the discussion. They need educating and stop the corporate bullying.
I have only tried OT once a few weeks ago but didn't get the drone up as I forgot to charge the RC1 unit and didn't want to chance it, but had similar to you when I told them I was going to fly. Initially it was no you can't, then his supervisor came over and agreed I could even though it was a 'grey' area. I said, nothign Grey about it, we can legally fly here if we want with the type/weight of drones were using. So I'll be back another time to do OT.
Can't believe they tried to stitch you up with your employer, bang out of order.

They had cctv pictures taken zoomed into me on Matt Busby way, about 50 yards off their land. Maybe I should have requested copies of all the footage of me 🙂

It's some innate need they have to stop people from doing what THEY don't want them to do. They operate on pure ego and use tyranny and bullying tactics to enforce their will. We as a people need to put a stop to this.

Interesting to read the story with the security guy. I am still a little bit confused by the UK drone law 😀
Basically the CAA control all the airspace. Police have no jurisdiction to restrict flights unless they believe your committing an offence.
The main no fly zones we have are prisons and airports.

The rules can change at any given moment.A club of mufc's stature has alot of clout and im sure very persausive techniques in getting what they want.Doing things like this will no doubt be reported and shown to CAA legal or not.Between all authorities they they can quite easily pull the plug on all of us drone pilots.Im not trying to be a Karen but dont push your luck mate,the rules are fair right now.u could potentially end up messing it up for everyone.
Hi Ryan, thanks for taking time to comment. Unfortunately, I don't agree.
This is my club, that I've followed for over 37 years. Why on earth should I not be able to fly over on a day when I checked nobody was training to have a look around. I announced myself to security, the guy was fine and knew the rules, it was his boss that didn't and got a little funny. But after explaining the CAA law to them, it was fine. In fact I stayed and chatted to the security team for half an hour after the flight.
The point here is that they and all commercial buildings have no control of airspace, and I'm sorry but your comments about them have clout to get a NFZ above in nonsense. They can't, at best they can apply for an 'authorisation zone' which is what most PL grounds have, including Old Trafford. But this is easily and legally bypassed if your registered correctly.
We cannot let these big commercial giants dictate who can and cannot take videos or photos.
