    Just wonderful. The subtle dye approach really lends itself to the diaphanous quality of your pattern and the color suits it. Very elegant choice and workmanship. I could never do such a pattern, all the errors I make would be too obvious. I really admire your many talents and thank you for walking us through all the steps right up to the fashion runway!!!

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials it would be so beautiful as a blanket, maybe four of them alternating directions - it would have to be a special 'mommy-only' blanket, hidden away somewhere!

    Love this! I always wonder what yarn looks like knitted up. I’ve learned about myself that I loooove multicoloured/speckled yarn in skeins but often don’t love the knitted fabric I end up with as much as I do tonsils/solid yarns

    Beautiful! When worn in what you say is how you'll likely wear it most frequently, the fact that the whole thing is an arrow isn't immediately obvious, but the arrow/ chevron stitch still shines through.
    Idk why, but for me, the sheen of the silk didn't show through until you had the yarn caked. I loved this video, and look forward to more where you dye for yourself with finished projects in mind!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      Thank you! It is hard to show shine especially when I have a light box up since it makes the light softer (and therefore harder for the camera to pick up shines.)
      Sometimes when I show sparkle on yarn, I will add a camera phone flashlight and move it so the light moves and the sparkle shows up better on camera. :D

    How do you think the color would have ended up if you started with blue, then red and ended up with blue? I do love the variety in the yarn, I think it will knit up just great!! I’m not much for solids but I like the solid look that this will knit up! Third edit of comments! Love, love, love the finished wrap!

    Still gorgeous and so nice seeing the full process. One question your wires did you put them in wet or dry yarn? I've heard others say it's hard to put wires in if project has been soaked so I'm interested in how you did your blocking process. Oh the skein you held up in the beginning of video is that the same you should as inspiration at end when you threw it on top of just dyed skeins? I ask because in beginning it looked really purple a deep rich purple and at end it leaned pink but you always say it's hard to film purples. It's gorgeous and I want to do one for me for sure.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  3 роки тому +1

      I put the blocking wires in when the yarn was wet, and I think it would have been a LOT easier if the project was still dry.
      The skein is the exact same one. It shows how the white balance and where I'm filming REALLY shift the way the colors come through. I only do color correction during editing SUPER rarely (I didn't in this video.)
      I always forget that silk can absorb so much more color to be as pigmented, so I should really dye some more silk blends and nonsuperwash wool side by side for comparisons.

    Question Rebecca, how would refrigeration affect the yarn and the colour, and the both together?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  3 роки тому +1

      Do you mean during the dyeing process? I'm not sure - it could slow down absorption I suppose but I'm not inclined to put acid dyes in my fridge. (I don't want to risk spills, but also there is never any space!)
      I could put something outside while it is colder.... I'll have to think on this.

    • @kathleenmcquade31
      @kathleenmcquade31 3 роки тому

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials You're right about putting the acid dye in the kitchen fridge, I had not thought about that. Using the food colouring you could do that, if you have a room. Maybe in a garage an extra yarn fridge, as opposed to a beer fridge, (or maybe both?) could be plugged in? Oh, to dream of a separate studio! But that would be extra hard with your boys being so young yet to not have mum close enough to fight off the dragons, or pour drinks into cups! LOL. Maybe in the summer a built solar oven that could be used for cooking food if not heating up dye pots or glass jars cooking yarn! Don't forget the umbrella! While using the sun to cook yarn, or food for that matter, it should not be used for the cooking of 'the rugged skin of younge boys', or more likely 'the delicate skin of mums'! But oh! The dreams of a studio!

  • @kathleenmcquade31
    @kathleenmcquade31 3 роки тому

    Another question Rebecca! Would there be a better distribution of the acid if, instead of adding it to the top as you just did, you lift the yarn out of the pot and add the acid to the liquid and do a quick stir and then return the yarn to the pot? Or is doing it from the top to create a suttle difference of the colour here and there?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! If I want things to be more even, then i would absolutely remove the yarn, stir the acid in, and then add the yarn back. The balance I was playing with here is that i didn't want even coverage overall.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  3 роки тому

      Yes you can! Food coloring works great on wool, silk, alpaca, and other protein based animal fibers. The things where it won't work are plant fibers (cotton, linnen, hemp), and synthetics like acyrlic & polyester.
