There are many different versions of this song. It's usually a little more upbeat. You maybe have noticed that Taka and Toru are very emotional during this performance. That's because they performed this in memory of the actor Haruma Miura, one of Taka's childhood friends from the song title. He committed suicide in 2020. That's also the reason this version was the way it was. It was like mourning him and saying goodbye.
I think it's difficult to connect if you don't know the story behind this performance. You gotta know the history, otherwise it's just another song, when to the OOR fandom this performance is Taka crying his heart out for one his best friends, the H in chaosmyth, who committed suicide just a month before this performance. There's no audience, this was in the middle of covid, and this was a streamed performance in a period when concerts were not allowed.
You should watch the music video for this song. It originally is a much more upbeat song. They did this extra somber arrangement for this concert because it's dedicated to Miura Haruma, one of the H's in the title, who had at the time recently passed away by suicide. That's why Taka especially is so emotional and why he looks up at the sky. But yeah, check out the music video and/or the performance at Nagisaen, even if not for a reaction and just on your own time, to see how radically different the original is. (Just know that the beginning of the Nagisaen performance is different from the original, and then it gradually goes into the original upbeat arrangement.)
I think your opinion is fair, the song is originally much more rock-y and less repetitive. I think A LOT of people feel emotionally connected to this performance/song bc the "H" in chaosmyth is Haruma Miura, an extremely famous actor who committed suicide about eight years after this song was released. If I'm doing the math right, this is a performance dedicated to him bc it would have been done close to his passing and this isn't a song they regularly perform anymore.
yes, Miura passed just a month before the Field of Wonder performance. It must have been tough for Taka to do this whole show with that emotional burden of having lost one of his best friends just weeks before.
I think we fans should request the heavy and more up beat songs if the reactors are not a fan of acoustic and slow songs. But yeah as others said, this song has a story why it was performed this way. Taka has a hard time holding back his tears as well as controlling his emotions while singing the high notes. That alone is amazing how he pulled it off. My recommendations if you wanna see him in his element are: 1. Deeper Deeper at Yokohama Stadium 2. One by One 35xxxv tour 3. Liar 35xxxv tour
I'm sure you would like the normal version much better. It has a faster tempo and doesn't feel that drawn out. it's a 13 year old song, so as a long time fan, I can appreciate them choosing new arrangements to perform their classic songs but I can see why it might not connect to you in the same way. That's totally fair. I don't know if you wanna react to the original or just watch it on your own, but I can recommend the Yokohama Stadium live performance. it's great :)
Oh. The last few times you have selected a slow version of a video that is a little out of your wheelhouse. I guess that's just the preference of the person who recommended it.... For you, I would recommend a version closer to the sound source. ONE OK ROCK still has many good songs. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in your next choice ❤
This particular version of this song is very much slowed down and I believe was a performance recorded during the pandemic. They have a whole documentary on Netflix about this concert with the performances and commentary from the guys even about there lives. Taka really wanted to uplift people during the pandemic so they made a virtual concert since the fans couldn't see them live. This is one of my favorite one ok rock songs but I have to say I prefer it in it's original form or at least faster paced.
.. they performed this song for Haruma Miura who supposed to have committed sui-cide .. thus you can especially see Toru crying (Taka's voice goes strange, too) .... one thing I must say is that Haruma didn't k-ill himself.. he was (many in Japan know) after digging & to expose pea-dough-filia activities in Japan ..

This was sung for Haruma Miura("h" of C.h.a.o.s.m.y.t.h).
He was an actor, passed away in 2020.

彼らはメッセンジャーでありバンドです!もう少し歴史を知る必要があります。この曲は亡き友に捧げている曲です!!
This makes me cry every time I watch it Haruma was such a great actor 😢❤
ただ好みじゃなかったということですね!(^^;
