Hammar MA1 - How to Rearm your Life Jacket

A visual guide to re-arming the Hammar MA1
When the lifejacket inflator has activated or after its 5 year life time the mechanism need to be replaced. For replacement after 5 years given the lifejacket was never activated only the yellow cap need to be replaced. Pay close attention to the indicator in the cylinder body is showing green and has the correct weight market on the cylinder.

Hi. My pull mechanism on my MA1 says replace if red during 2019. The indicator is still green, can you still remove the pull mechanism to check the cylinder and then replace, or must you change the complete mechanism?

Hi David, Thank you for your patience with our reply. You may replace only the yellow cap if the Cylinder assembly is showing green.

So my son pulled the cord on me today, I’ve pulled it apart just wondering if you can simply replace the cylinder on its own? will the colour indicators show green again once assembled?

Hi Rhys, I'm sorry to hear about your son pulling the cord on you. I hope you are alright.
As the unit was activated you need a new rearming-kit for your PFD. Once the unit shows Red it is to be replaced. The cylinder is permanently fixated to the black piercing unit to prevent the cylinder from un-winding and allow for the Single-point indication on the front of the yellow Activating mechanism giving your the complete status of your inflator.
The easiest way is to go thru the manufacturer's of the lifejacket network for a new kit. Your inflated kit should be discarded according to local regulations. Wish you fair winds ahead. /Mikael

Thank you for your commenting, I could not agree more folding of the bladder is tricky.
Different manufacturers of lifejackets solve the folding in different ways, hence Hammar cannot provide this video. Most manufacturers have video rearming instructions for their inflatable lifejackets. Some also printed the folding instructions on the bladder. If you have any uncertainty around the folding of your Lifejacket you should request a service from a manufacturer-approved, service station
