  • A video related to a 2020 study by Wilkins, Odom, Benedict & Safran that describes female song for the first time in one of the most common and widely researched songbird species in the world. Until now, females were thought to sing the same song as males or not sing at all-neither of which is accurate.
This video provides extra background context for our lesson "Females singing to be heard: Challenging long-held assumptions about birdsong through data visualization".

As I sit outside with my cat and dog, the barn swallows sit above on the wires and yak non stop. Of course the dive bombing begins when my animals start walking around. Nesting season is over and they are congregating. They never stop talking.

I love how the females are having an argument with each other, and the male is just like, "It's my time to make a move."
