Great video Travis. As a 36 years post injury quad. My advice is to take every opportunity thrown at you. Walking is so overrated, my wheelchair never stopped me living the life I wanted. You have a long and potentially very fulfilled life ahead of you. Your mindset is amazing. Look after the important parts of being disability. Just never allow your mind to be disabled.
    Hope that all makes sense?

Good for you (I mean this genuinely). My father is going on 23 years and he has let his physical disability consume him hold him back in every aspect of his life which has been exhausting to deal with as a caretaker.

Travis thank you for sharing this. Back in 2019 I woke up and I couldn't move my legs. Called the doctor's office and was told he was booked for the next 4 weeks. While walking holding on to things I tripped and fell, and I ended up breaking my neck. Like not being able to use my legs wasn't bad enough. Anyway, my story is too long for the space allowed on here, so I'll make it short. They said I wouldn't walk again. I'm walking with a cane. I'm not fast but I'm not sitting in the wheelchair they arranged for me. People I didn't even know were making decisions for me. I live in a second floor Condo, and they all said I should move into a facility for someone in my condition. I didn't listen and I'm glad I didn't. Hearing your story made me reminisce back to the beginning. Travis, your right, people will tell you that you can't do certain things, they mean well but they're not always right. You do think about your life and the things we took for granted. I don't do that anymore. Every day is a Gift and that's how I treat it. Travis, thanks again for sharing your story and whatever you do don't give up because it does get better. You are proof. P.S. we're both proof.!

My sister had a diving accident in 1990, she is c5 & c6. You seem to have a very positive outlook, that means so much. She was 17, summer before her senior year. It's always been so hard to think how one split second changed everything. Prayers to you, as I can personally relate 🙏 I know you will inspire many.

Strong work brother. I've had many injuries in my life from sports and activities (ACL, dislocated shoulder, numerous fractures), nothing as serious as yours, but I agree the mind is our most powerful muscle. I spent most of 2022 on the ground recovering after a ski accident. It humbles you immensely. I will never take for granted the ability to walk, to clothe myself, and other basic things. Don't limit yourself. You are young, you have amazing spirit, I know you will accomplish great things in life.....whether that's on your feet or on two wheels!!!!

In a matter of time this is how I will also become. My oncologist basically told me that my spinal fracture will render my spine to completely give way. I'll become quadraplegic due to aggressive cancer that's eating away at my spine. Lord knows I'm dying, but I can accept that. What I fear the most is neurological pain when the cancer reaches my spinal cord. I watch your videos and draw on strength from them in that they might help me to see reality of what is coming to me. I thank you kindly for your videos. My worst fracture is T3 AND T2. I also have sternum fracture also from the cancer. 🙏❤🇦🇺

Hey Travis. You look almost exactly the same as I did after I busted C5-6. I did the 7 months of therapy at the spinal cord rehab center I was in. Three and a half months into my injury, a lot of muscles just started turning themselves back on. At that point rehab. started kicking my ass. All I wanted to do each day was to go back to my room after therapy and sleep. And the next morning the nurses & therapist's were getting me out of bed to start therapy even before breakfast was brought to my room. They kept telling me that there was to much work to be done, and we needed to take advantage of what was happening. It was crucial that those muscles needed to be worked as hard as they could before the atrophy made the muscle to weak to work. One of the biggest problems we had was that nobody had ever seen a C5-6 with the amount of return that I was having after almost 4 months of nothing. Nobody knew how to teach a quad. to pee again. Pooping again was relatively easy, but it was really hard for the Dr. to tell me what needed to be done to pee on my own. They had never come across this opportunity and weren't sure what I needed to do. I was walking, granted very slowly, but if I can walk, I should be able to pee on my own. We just didn't know what to do.
When I was released from the hospital, they had ordered a wheelchair for me. By the time it was delivered though, the only thing I was using it for was getting dressed in the morning. Please let me know if there's something I can give to you. Any intelligence I can give you, or techniques that worked for me, or just someone to compare notes with. It would mean the world to me if I could pass along any knowledge that would help you, and then you pass it on to the next walking quad.
    Take care my friend.

@@mt_gox …you have got to be kidding! It’s exactly things such as bodily functions that suddenly disappear…that these videos try to illustrate. I’m amazed that you were expecting..what…clean wholesome family entertainment while you are eating and watching a quadriplegic talking honestly about the injury?..What’s wrong with you dude..

And without a doubt I'd rather date a guy with your attitude to life with or without full limb abilities than many of the guys I've dated. You're experiences and strength make you very attractive!

Such a beautiful video,so well said. The concept of making walking your goal but not your focus and not your roadblock to happiness really resonated with me. The message I got from it is that we all can control our own happiness if we want to. Stop the I would be happy if, or when. Choose to be happy now ❤! This video was perfect in every way. If your looking for more video ideas, I would love to hear your thoughts on what to say and what not to say to a quadriplegic. I know your more than your story, but there are so many areas many of us don’t know what’s encouraging and what’s not. What’s helpful and what’s annoying lol. I’m guessing someone promoting walking constantly instead of promoting happiness is on the list, but I don’t know much more. Please help lol.
