the author seems pretty stuck up, and added all these overhaul features no one asked for that destroys performance and over complicates that game. Most people don't want to make Fallout 4 even more of a FPS Call of Duty infused Fallout game, they just want additional guns because the base games weapon diversity is shit and relies entirely on the workbench. New Vegas's ammo system works because 99% of the time you find ammo, its just regular ammo, you go out of your way to find or buy special versions of 9mm or 45 for example.
In a previous video, you discussed the gameplay loop of Fallout 4, encapsulated in the phrase "kill, loot, and return." I believe an in-depth analysis of this gameplay loop would contribute to an excellent video. As a game developer, I appreciate content like this. Keep up the great work!
Eventually I will release a video about how Starfield could have learned from and improved upon Fallout 4's gameplay loop, so look out for that when it's done (probably 2024).

For what it's worth re: the technical issues with WARS mentioned in the video: I encountered no stuttering after making the fix in WARS v1.0.1. On my system at least, it was fixed entirely. (The feedback I received at the time suggested that it was fixed for others too.) The issues described with the ammo swap menu failing to appear - or appearing twice, or allowing you to change the calibre of a weapon, or crashing the game - are all things that I did not encounter during development or my 300+ hour WARS and PEACE test playthrough. (In other words I can't reproduce those things on my end.) As a random note, on the Cap ATMs in PEACE: I suppose I could have made it explicit via a note or terminal entry or something, but my vague lore idea was that the Institute were placing/maintaining the ATMs as a surveillance tool. (And maybe a revenue source. I don't know; it's usually better to not think too hard about how the economy in the Commonwealth is supposed to work.) Anyway, it's hinted at obliquely by way of there being a Cap ATM (with a unique appearance) _inside_ the Institute too.
Try teleporting to locations a small distance away from Corvega or Gunner's Plaza and then sprint towards them. You'll definitely see the framerate drop for a few seconds. The caliber swap thing (and the crashes) only happened to me with the Skorpion - it could be a problem with that weapon?
@@PancuroniumB My tests when making that stutter fix in WARS v1.0.1 were to run around the heavy downtown Boston areas, prompting big groups of NPCs to spawn and fight each other. With and without WARS enabled, I saw no difference in stuttering once I had made that fix. (Using FPS monitoring on my trusty old G19 keyboard display.) If there was a problem with the Skorpion specifically, I'd expect to get more consistent reports of issues with it. Really my best guess is that it's _probably_ a case of the script engine randomly tripping over itself. Issues that are so rare that I _never_ see them in all the hundreds of hours spent developing, testing and playing the mod are obviously extremely difficult to fix. (E.g. yours is the only report I've had of crashes linked to ammo-swapping.)
I just tested vanilla with no mods (only a 60 fps limiter) versus WARS and PEACE with only their dependencies (no Buffout 4, no Classic Holstered Weapons, no Long Loading Times Fix, etc). Running from Quincy Quarries to Gunner's Plaza in vanilla presents a perfect 60 fps flatline. With WARS+PEACE I get 60 until the Gunners load in, then it drops to as low as 17 for about 2-3 seconds before going back up to 60. Same when travelling from Graygarden to the back of Corvega, it doesn't drop below 60 in vanilla, but with WARS+PEACE the framerate falls to 20 or so for a few seconds. Running from Goodneighbor to Layton Towers gave me a few one off stutters in WARS+PEACE, but once again it's a perfect 60 in vanilla. The stuttering isn't unmanageably bad, but it's certainly a lot worse than normal.
@@PancuroniumB I gave a couple of those areas a quick test just now, and it was capped at 60fps except for when I reached the Gunner's Plaza/Corvega, where in both cases it dipped to 57fps for a couple of seconds. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been watching the fps counter. That's with WARS and PEACE and a bunch of other mods. Different systems, probably? My PC doesn't have _crazy_ specs, though; it's about three years old now.
@@jlollback My specs are very high end aside from the GPU, which doesn't matter in this test. It could be an AMD versus Intel difference, I don't know. I don't think it has anything to do with graphics settings. I just tried the lowest settings possible with BethINI and at 1280x720 the framerate was 250-500 fps until I got near trouble areas, at which point it stuttered down to 20-25 for the exact same length of time as before, until it recovered. I also tried playing with the Papyrus ini settings, lowering and increasing the fUpdateBudgetMS, but nothing seems to make any difference.

But everytime i turn in the video I know hes gonna be honest and true to himself, and true to his experiences. When a reviewer consistently does that, allowing you to consistently gather what your own truth of yhe experience would be, thats the value of the reviewer. Thanks for another amazing video Panc.
Thank you for this. I have been playing around with the idea of using wars and peace or to.just use damn apocalypse as a bas and then use smaller mods as add ons to create my own version
I can't help but parrot your desire for a WARS lite mod. WARS, to an average player like me, is most interesting because of the comprehensive replacer for vanilla weapons. I feel like most if not all of the other features are only desirable for hardcore survival players. PEACE is much the same but much worse. I really, *really* , wish there was just a smaller mod that added all of the guns from WARS and nothing else.
This was a very fair review, I'm not all that enthusiastic about the changes either. However kudos to the dev team to get all these systems working in the first place
i wish I'd seen this before I tried these mods. I was so excited to try them, but i ended up removing them. I just used modern firearms with a weapon replacement mod and Advanced Needs 76. I'm fine with it
This might not be the right place to ask, but I've recently watched a few of your videos now and noticed you mention script latency a few times in regards to large, script-heavy mods like Sim Settlements 2, Pack Attack, Crime and Punishment and whatnot, so I'm wondering if you know if using SS2 and Crime and Punishment together would cause issue?
I've never tried, so I wouldn't know. Use SKK's Script Lag Latency Detector mod and test both of them together for an hour or so to find out whether it's too much for your PC.
I saw a mod comp video the other day and they mentioned these mods and i was mostly excited for peace cus im a power armor guy and i though those new PA mods looked cool, sad it replaced alot of other things too :(
Its too bad there isn't a option in WARS to just add in the weapons and not make any other changes to combat. But in all seriousness who makes a character with 1 strength?
This mod was quite anticipated when it was originally just a weapon replacer. For some reason the modder didn’t separate things and lost his audience with all the gameplay stuff. It’s just a bloated mess that ruined what would’ve been an amazing gun mod! Just hoping someone on Discord rips the guns and uploads them in NP3 as a replacement and a standalone release
I am not sure if anyone can help me with this but I installed war and peace, and I spawned a combat shot gun just to see if the weapon changes were working, and the damn thing weight nearly 100 pounds in game lol is a feature or a glitch?
I had a similar issue and had to comb through my list of mods. I found 2 ESP's and disabled them and that helped: Ammo tweaks default and ammo tweaks no DLC's.
Have you tried wearing armor in real life? I have. A suit of kevlar armor, is heavier and more cumbersome than you think. The fact that you need strength for armor, is totally justified. Also, needing science for stuff... is good? It makes sense, you can't just pasteurize milk. Do you know how to? You very probably don't. Its a good thing to have these requirements, it forces you to become better.
In the spirit of discussing less well covered but expansive mods, could you do a review/showdown of some of the hunting mods on the Nexus? Namely Immersive Hunting Overhaul and Hunter of the Commonwealth. Finding information on them and what they do/don't do has been surprisingly difficult.
You do some of the best mod reviews out there. Alot either just read the modpage description and call it a review. Alot are just too afraid of hurting an author's feelings and only say a bunch of good things without saying the truth. But your criticism is mostly spot on, and you usually follow the: say something nice, then say something bad, then follow it up with something nice again.
Nice review. I was considering it, but I think I'll give the modders some time to fix it up. My own loadorder is ~600 mods, so that's a total overhaul by itself.
Great review, great channel. I'm a long time Horizon player and modder. I've done numerous patches. I was looking at WARS/PEACE and hoping to find something different and better. I was bummed off the bat because it takes away a lot of the Fallout vibe. I really can't stand real-world adaption modding of this game. It's beyond me but I guess if you like Tarkov and CoD more than Fallout that's the way you're going to mod it. I also don't need to see the full technical name of each piece of ammo. Come on, man, it's just too much to quickly read when scrolling through inventory and loot. One game balance issue I see in Horizon and this, which I try to modify for my game, is the lack of options for certain parts of the game. Like being able to buy weapon mods or hiring help instead of having to make everything. You can barely find anything upgraded in the field with Horizon as the leveled lists for mod collections are so trimmed down. By the time you can find even a low tier modification you are way too far into the game. A lot of the "realistic" changes mods make do not translate to good gameplay. Having a "realistic" carryweight simply doesn't translate well unless you modify the whole game around it, which I'm slowly doing, to an extent. The game at it's core is designed for lots of looting so it's a big job to work around.
The only good thing about this mod is the weapon replacer. The other changes are ass. I've had issues with ammo types for weapons changing every other save too.
This is accurate about the experience, but if the point of getting the mod was to make it more realistic, why is there such a negative reception about it?
I don’t get how this mod author can create the best weapon replacer on the nexus but doesn’t release it and instead packages it with ridiculous bloat. He’s sitting on fame, he could be THE goated Fallout 4 weapons modded, but nah he doesn’t care for it apparently.
I tried making a load order on my Xbox that does a lot of this. If I even get close to Boston my game crashes 😂 so annoying how broken the base game is, makes heavy modding on Xbox impossible.
I played with these mods for at least 24 hours of game time, and I didn't enjoy it. It overcomplicated things and engaging with the new systems just felt like a chore. I don't think it's necessarily bad, it just isn't my cup of tea.
I think the only features I would like from these mods are the condition system for weapons and the new packs introduced in PEACE. I have literally zero interest in replacing every goddamn weapon in the game with tacticool equivalents. I don't care about the seeming lack of "realism" when it comes to 4's arsenal, and actually adore the series for its art deco approach to a post-apocalypse. Why would I want to remove that to make it all look like just another ARMA clone? The author should makes some of these systems independent and modular of the overall WARS & PEACE overhauls, as currently much-desired survival aspects are locked away in downloads that are over 1Gb.
Backpacks of the c/w. Let's you modify carry weight. I heard you say u didn't like low carry weight. Try it get use to it you'll never play any other way. I've played for years never with more than 45 lbs, carry weight. Simulate real life. You know.
This just looks like another poorly designed "realism over gameplay" overhaul to add to the trashheap tbh. Im surprised peace doesnt require you to micromanage your vitamin intake and dental hygiene with how much it sacrifices fun and balance for realism. Then theres wars. Yet another mod that insists on modern firearms instead of the retrofuturistic concept fallout had been built on since the 90s. I just dont get people who want that.
It's crazy this channel doesn't get more views, these mod review are the most helpful of any I've seen.
"WARS Light" that just adds and replaces weapons would be the absolute perfect baseline mod for a modern weapon load order.

On mag problem I think there should be some kind of way to automatically pick them up once you walk over them
Hey, if you're open to examining Overhauls, why don't you give my Weapons Overhaul Systems a try? It's comprehensive, but modular and you can pick and choose what you don't want to install.
(Note that it's a bit in alpha, because I didn't have playtesters, so I'm polishing it as I go through my playthrough.)
I'll give it a look.
@@PancuroniumBHi, it's V 1.00-ed now, should be more stable, if you're still interested.
I think the big issue is the scope was too large and what was done was not done in a way which was seamless
Damn. This seemed so good, then i saw this full review and changed my mind lmfao
It's great! I like both, they seem to run fine enough 🤔
Alot of people dont get that a hood reviewer, is a consistent reviewer. To really get what you should out of a review, you must know yourself, and the reviewer themselves. I disagree with Panc here fairly often (not on anything factual like thebloading time or script fuck ups, but opinions like ammo tyoes or settlement (and factory) building) but hes consistent. I know i wont get an extrenelybin deoth review of some of these aspects due to it, but ill get a fair shake into them and honeslty, i dontnmindbhaving somethings left out of a review for ke to fighre out obviously, and I dont mind it being centered around kechanics where yournindividual input is what is key anyways.
This is very accurate as an experience.
Would like to see nod battle for assault rifle remesh
I managed to make the load order everyone is dreaming of, and not only that but I did it on Xbox series X !!!!
Make a video about it
This was a very fair review, I'm not all that enthusiastic about the changes either. However kudos to the dev team to get all these systems working in the first place
The worst part is this is one of the only nexus mods that has a skorpion Machine pistol a gun I've been wanting in my load order for a while!
Most of the guns also just weigh way too much like 200+ pound combat shotgun or the 700+ pound Gatling laser
i wish I'd seen this before I tried these mods. I was so excited to try them, but i ended up removing them. I just used modern firearms with a weapon replacement mod and Advanced Needs 76. I'm fine with it
What mods did you use?
Most underrated mod reviewers
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Light version would be nice as just a weapon pack
And of course we won't have it
This might not be the right place to ask, but I've recently watched a few of your videos now and noticed you mention script latency a few times in regards to large, script-heavy mods like Sim Settlements 2, Pack Attack, Crime and Punishment and whatnot, so I'm wondering if you know if using SS2 and Crime and Punishment together would cause issue?
I've never tried, so I wouldn't know. Use SKK's Script Lag Latency Detector mod and test both of them together for an hour or so to find out whether it's too much for your PC.
I saw a mod comp video the other day and they mentioned these mods and i was mostly excited for peace cus im a power armor guy and i though those new PA mods looked cool, sad it replaced alot of other things too :(
No matter what i do ammotweaks in the mcm says it can’t find ammotweaks_core even though i have it enabled and I’m actually going insane
Its too bad there isn't a option in WARS to just add in the weapons and not make any other changes to combat. But in all seriousness who makes a character with 1 strength?
Do you use a better ragdoll mod? I've noticed the enemies fall down semi realistically 👀
Nope, those are regular Fallout 4 ragdolls.
The biggest disappointment is that the Robot & PA cargo features are locked behind all the changes of this mod.
Sure, I'll take a look.
With the perks being nerfed, it almost sounds like you would be better off pouring perk points into your Specials. Normally I avoid doing that.
which mod adds these sacks and backpacks ive seen in this video?
They're either from WARS or PEACE, I didn't use any other mods (aside from performance and bugfix ones) when playing.
You could make a creatures mod battle
It’ll just be mutant menagerie and friedturkey
You do some of the best mod reviews out there. Alot either just read the modpage description and call it a review. Alot are just too afraid of hurting an author's feelings and only say a bunch of good things without saying the truth. But your criticism is mostly spot on, and you usually follow the: say something nice, then say something bad, then follow it up with something nice again.
10 pound for an adult human is hilarious.
WARS has amazing weapons. PEACE has amazing PA backpack and robot mod-parts, everything else is shiiiiiiiit.
The only good thing about this mod is the weapon replacer. The other changes are ass. I've had issues with ammo types for weapons changing every other save too.
War and Peace. Nice symbolism there
This is accurate about the experience, but if the point of getting the mod was to make it more realistic, why is there such a negative reception about it?
I’m just a masochist that’s why, ong my apologies this sounds annoying and dumb to an average person who just wants fallout 4 with less silly weapons.
I don’t get how this mod author can create the best weapon replacer on the nexus but doesn’t release it and instead packages it with ridiculous bloat. He’s sitting on fame, he could be THE goated Fallout 4 weapons modded, but nah he doesn’t care for it apparently.
Try obscurum statesec, my friends mod like frost.
I tried making a load order on my Xbox that does a lot of this. If I even get close to Boston my game crashes 😂 so annoying how broken the base game is, makes heavy modding on Xbox impossible.
The magazine changes are for realism
what gun is in the thumbnail?
The USAS-12.
well dang never playing these two lol
1 strength. ... boy
Well from what i have seen in your video i have to say no to this mod i know i would not even finish a playghthrough with this one.
Buffout 4 baby
So don’t download wars or peace got it
¡Gracias!
Backpacks?
I played with these mods for at least 24 hours of game time, and I didn't enjoy it. It overcomplicated things and engaging with the new systems just felt like a chore. I don't think it's necessarily bad, it just isn't my cup of tea.
WARS is cool until you figure out how many other mods you have to give up for it. Cant do it! 😂
Bro, you speak as if you are angry or upset 😂
Backpacks of the c/w. Let's you modify carry weight. I heard you say u didn't like low carry weight. Try it get use to it you'll never play any other way. I've played for years never with more than 45 lbs, carry weight. Simulate real life. You know.

You know the mod is unbalenced when even the classic games become easier in comparassion 😂😂😂
