I bet Jeff! You've been out here probably more than anyone. Appreciate it hopefully everything goes as planned with the scanning and all that. Thanks for watching as always, much appreciated!
That tool you called a track bender is actually a drill sharpener. Just to the right of it was the forge, heat the drill steel in the forge then clamp it into the machine and it would reform the bit. Once reformed you would reheat it again then quench it in oil to reharden it. Looked like rivet construction on the ore carts, that with the old school drill steel im guessing pre 20's for its hey day.
Liked your video on the mine exploring, bringing me back to my days in Colorado way back in the mid 1973-1976 time frame I use to go up above Silverton, Co. Up on the continental divide into the old silver n gold mines up there what a great time we used to have, we would set up our base camp and explore all of the old mines. It’s been 40+ years since I’ve been back there. I’m told that all of the mine openings are covered over with iron doors, with no trust passing on the property of Vickers or Conoco who have merged with another oil company, anyway you brought back great memories to me. Enjoy all of your exploring.
With the scanning and all of that, you could turn this into a 3D video game, something like where you have to physically "In Game" walk around and in the Mines, up and down shafts, decline, stopes etc etc and find artifacts, the possibilities are endless, GREAT video, loved it.
Very good point, I'm by no means a techy guy but maybe Owen or someone he knows could bring that to life. Would be super cool! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed.
Great exploring in mines. This is my second full watch. I am getting use to your climbing and walking planks. I wonder what the distance those mines youwalk.how do you keep from getting lost. Wow 😮😊
Love your videos man! You guys have a great demeanor and it's actually quite relaxing watching this while working. Makes a big difference to a stressful day!
Thar cast iron fixture is the frame of a "post drill," the precursor to a modern drill press. The handwheel at the right in the video has a ratchet on one face; this was turned with the drill stem and advanced the screw holdin the drill. These were cranked by hand or belted to power .
Another great explore and recording Jerith and Owen! As always, thanks for sharing with us. The only bummer I saw was the modern day trash (beer cans, etc). I always figure if you can pack it in - pack it out! All in all some great finds! Loved the hat and loved the tape measure! The hat could have been a 1920's Fedora. I could see the superintendent or boss coming into the mine, wearing a white button down shirt and that hat!
Very enjoyable videos. Your knowledge is extraordinary. I'm 65 years old retired Ironworker out of Seattle. Your finds are super cool. Prince Albert and your exuberance every time you find an oar car.
I look at the mine at around 24 minutes in and I’m just amazed! I have no idea how far this is from the nearest road, but it would seem to a long way. And that brings me to the most amazing part: how they got all that wood/rail/machinery/etc. out (and up!) to the mine site, and then built all of that! And that doesn’t even take into account the mine diggings! Wow!
@21;41 that is not a track bender it is a drill bit maker. you stick old drill bit in and the end with spring slams into to the old drill bit and makes a new end to drill with
Hi Jerith & Owen, wow there was so much cool stuff to see in the first mine. Just when you think it can't get any better there is an amazing headframe and ore bin. I don't think I have ever seen so many ore chutes on one bin, an awesome find. That incline led down to some very cool old items, so much to see and take in. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
Thanks So Much. I Just Kinda Wish Explorer's Would start With BLA BLA Nevada or Arizona Or Such & Such California Mine ? Just a Suggestion. Love the Mine Explores Please keep Them coming ?
Ashamed you didn't get invited to the big get together 😕😪😔 of all the mine explorers. 😕 great video 😊 thanks 😊 o well you probably would got tired of ( come on let's go ) lol 😆
Will a lot of these mines eventually become open pit strip mines in order to get out all of these leftover valuable materials? I would hate to see all of the history lost in this way and it’s not as if all of the valuable old growth wood could be saved either.
Wow wish I could of down this one with you guys! I did that one about a month ago its massive! That whole district is awesome. Hit me up ill be happy to tag along
Do you ever find rattlesnakes in these old mines and canyons? Bears? Anything deadly? I saw how you are very cool under pressure when coming across them, you give me some hope with the millennials but you really Should wear some snake proof hiking boots instead of those low cut tennis shoes, come on man.
we know that mine very well and the rest in that District .....video taped them on VHS back in 91 love that 3D virtual job you guys did ....Congrats
Hiya Jeff 👋
I bet Jeff! You've been out here probably more than anyone. Appreciate it hopefully everything goes as planned with the scanning and all that. Thanks for watching as always, much appreciated!
Jeff, it would be awesome to upload some clips from the vhs and do a return to see the difference (if any) of what's left.
Jeff you give me the location and I'll give you a treasure map , fair ?
With so much mineralization and the prices of these metals why isn’t this mine active?

Thanks ,I thought it was that, but not sure 😃
Awesome! Good to know, when I see another one I'll know that much more. Thanks for the input.
That second mine, was off the hook. For me, the highlight was that old Stetson hat. Amazing find.

That piece @ 16:27 is a blacksmith post drill press I believe. It mounted to a building post. Lots of parts gone though!

local 118 Sacramento/reno 22 years then became underground miner
Excellent rewards for a strenuous hike. Thanks. That large can of Prince Albert tobacco was new to me.

15:34 what's left of a wall mount drill press. 17:06 the wide flywheel is used to drive a belt.
That has to be one of the coolest mines you have explored, thanks for taking us along.
Wow really explore Jerith. Awesome mine very cool. Love the ore cart and artifacts.

10:22 Base for a drill?

Hi, you made splendid picture! see u around~Western.
very nice!
The winch has a capstan winch on the side of it
Track bender looks more like a swager. A track bender needs to be portable.

Well that's fine I might not have been able to make it. Plus, I'm not a big name so there's that as well.
@@WesternMineDetective nice 👌hat you found nice vintage mantle piece .
I need to know where this is !!!
Do some research
@@tommcelroy6975My comments keep disappearing. I have a video called "Helter Skelter Shelter" see if you can find the location with research, I did.

Hello from Denmark
Thanks for watching from Denmark! Definitely an honor knowing people from all over watch my videos 😁
What are you gonna do when you run across reverend Kane from Poltergeist with his followers in one of those stopes lol. 😂
Wow wish I could of down this one with you guys! I did that one about a month ago its massive! That whole district is awesome. Hit me up ill be happy to tag along
Not for me! No thanks! 43:47

that piece of machinery in the tool area is an "upsetter" for sharpening drill steel before"thread on"and "knock off" tips were available en mass
