early 90s toonami baby checking in. Admittedly, I'm also still searching to fill that void 20yrs later, as i'm sure you are as well, but its always a fleeting dream... Wish I had a time machine that takes me straight home from elementary school for Tom to tell me what the lineup is for this afternoon. Will we have the pleasure of finding out what happens on the next episode of DBZ, or maybe one of the movie specials, many of which never quite fit chronologically into any mainline saga yet still held a special place in our hearts? Or will we experience an intense Gundam struggle above our skies, across many alternate universes? Will Tenchi grace us with his beautiful harem of women, or does Vash the Stampede stumble his way across the deserts of some far away planet, keeping us laughing for another day? What trouble will Gene Starwind and his crew encounter throughout the galaxy today, and will they find their solace in the galactic leyline sought after by many? Will Roger and Dorothy with the help of Big O uncover the truths and secrets of Paradigm City, along with all of its lost memories? Will our kind hearted, yet jaded Kenshin get pushed hard enough to the point where he has no choice but to kill once again? Will Yusuke get a 2nd chance at life, and if so, at what cost? and who can forget our lunar princess, sailor moon with her 4 friends saving the day once more...
Having fallen in love with this anime and especially this song when I was a kid, I think the entire arrangement of this particular track - the poignant strings, her crystal-clear voice - has made an indelible mark on my psyche. Now that I'm fluent in Japanese, listening to this song again is rapturous. These lyrics are fucking awesome.
Back when Cartoon Network was at it's prime! Saw this during Toonami, along with Tenchi Muyo, back when it used to air. I remember being so entranced with the song and artwork. This is perhaps the one anime that really got me into become an Otaku!
Wow. . . 14 years. To think we were all watching this, Tenchi Muyo, and Dragon Ball Z that long ago (for us folk who watched it exclusively on Toonami)
People were telling me this was Cowboy Bebop’s shadow back in the day. I watched it earlier this year and this truly is a wonderful series. This song did it the most justice to end it off too. Can’t ever get enough of it😊🔥🔥💯♥️
Cowboy Bebop introduced me to Adult Swim, I also started watching Toonami around that time which helped me become obsessed with Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, etc.
I just wanted to let all fans of Outlaw Star know, just in case anyone wasnt aware, but Outlaw Star is available on Bluray and thst Funimation has a Collector's Edition of it available. Other shows I wasnt aware of being made for Blueray are Wolf's Rain and Trinity Blood. For years I kept a vigil to see if those shows would ever be brought to bluray but gave up awhile ago and stopped searching. So i dunno WHEN these were brought back but jus in case others kinda would be of the same mind/way. So to those who listen to nostalgia of songs here, we now can have that nostalhia home and for good!
No doubt!!! I was on Funimation on break at work, curious if the DBZ Kai series had done the Buu Saga and was scanning through their store and it hit me like a truck OUTLAW STAR I made a very audible cry of happiness! I had felt for awhile that Outlaw Star and Wolf's Rain especially, were forgotten by companies to being released and made available again. Sure streaming or downloading can "suffice" but this was my top 3 of Anime and it's one I've been wanting to own for a LONG time. As sappy and cringey as this mau be, I nearly choked out tears of how hard Nostalgia hit me for all,3 shows were finally able to be in my collection! You best enjoy your collection, Im sitting energetically waiting xP!
I had the biggest nerdgasm when it came out on Blu-ray in Japan in 2014, because I knew it would have to make its way to the west eventually, and it did. :P It must have been great to find out about the other two series too. Let me know what you think when you get it! The Funimation set is one of the only OLS sets I don't have and I have over ten.
The Blue Mantis I felt like I was frozen and was thawed out and like.."wait...what do,you mean this is a thing now?" xD It literally has made my day to be honest!!
The art in combination with the somber tone of the song was ALWAYS so damn sad and yet joyful. It's indescribable but the ending credits to this show always made me feel euphoric and happy, and sad and lonely, even as a 9 year old. Hauntingly beautiful music. the fact I can't understand the lyrics somehow adds to its mystery and somber charm.
I come back to this every so often. When I listen, there's this sort of 'image' in my head, but the entire scene is indescribable except for the sense of steadfastness in the face of an ambiguous loss. On top of that are layers upon layers of nostalgia. It's a really beautiful song.
I somehow missed this show, out of all the Toonami lineup as a kid. I remember watching DBZ, Rurouni Kenshin, The various Tenchi series (never could get into those, though), YuYu Hakusho, and even Sailor Moon, but somehow this one slipped my childhood radar. I'm watching it uncut on Funimation now, and I'm loving it so far.
One of my favorite songs (like...ever)! Her voice is just absolutely amazing. A perfect song for my favorite anime! I totally need to bust out my DVDs again.....
I decided to re-watch a lot of old anime from the 90's. This song always hits the heart.. I thought it was insane when the heroine of the anime straight out sung the song from her own mouth. It was the first time I've ever seen something like that being done in an anime. I cried.
I didmt appreciate this song nearly as much as I should have when I first heard it. It took over ten years but now it can't stop bringing me nearly to tears every time
I remember this haunting melody from years ago as the end credits of a different anime.. it pierced my soul then, and then when i rediscovered it years later on outlaw star, I had to find the song. The song, her voice, and the beautiful artwork has forever touched me and transcends time. Thank you for making this available on UA-cam.
I loved this show so much that my nickname in elementary school was "outlaw star". and the show turned me to this artist which is now one of my favorites. Akino Arai is a very talented and unique artist.
I always thought the woman in the closing sequence was Gene's mother. Call it headcanon. This song is as beautiful and tender as it is haunting a s melancholy.
+1234OTAKUANIME The older hand drawn ones are so much better to me. They just have so much more character ya know? Its like...damn I'm looking at a real drawing someone made hear. Computer made modern stuff is good too but. Just doesnt have the same texture and character of the hand animated stuff like OS
How did I not realize until now that the girl in the drawing here was wearing a spacesuit with a big oval-shaped helmet? I thought she was wearing one of those big conical collar things you put on dogs sometimes.
If you watch the show through a couple times (and this could just be me) you might notice certain plot points that are mentioned later in clear context being referenced pretty much from the beginning in small bits spread out in later episodes, which I find to be fascinating. What makes that better is how open ended certain things were at the end. Excellent show.
When they speak of the galactic leyline in greater detail later on, if you go back through the beginning, there are things said through the show or through the narrator's intro that hints toward the galactic leyline and how it involves Gene and Melphina. One example being when Onten Pirate leader dude mentions that the essence of the leyline dwells within Gene, which he said after Melphina brought Gene into cyberspace to get full access to the poison in his body and remove it. When that happened, my theory anyway, it left a piece of the leyline in him essentially. Mostly fascinated with those types of little details that are barely mentioned or that are shown but not explained that correlate with the events later on that give meaning to those details earlier in the show. Also this might be a butchered spoiler for anyone who hasn't watched it yet, so please ignore this comment if you havn't, go watch it on VRV lol.
This song defines my childhood. The version sung by Melfina in the show is great too. Now that I have a job, most of the Outlaw Star paraphernalia is either out of print/production or sold out indefinitely. I really wish the series took off like Cowboy Bepop which still sells a lot of older products to this day.
Not very much, other than that the director and producers wanted this incredibly famous sci-fi illustrator (did cover art for some of the greatest and most acclaimed sf-novels of the 20th century) to do background illustrations for the ED theme because they admired him so much... they told him he can draw whatever he feels like, and he gladly accepted. I remember having read somewhere that this was during pre-production, and Arai-san let herself be inspired by the feeling of the paintings when she composed Hiru no Tsuki. Personally, I like to imagine that those images show scenes from the galaxy's distant past, before the creation of the leyline... works really well for me.
Its 2017 and my birthday is in a few days. I turn 26. I remember watching this as a kid and just smiling at being awoken to the soundtrack despite having slept halfway through the late night Toonami Episode. Oh the Feels. The Feels :*I
for the longest time i've wondered about one thing. who the hell are these women in the ending sequence? the artwork is absolutely beautiful but none of these women are present in the series and as far as i recall they were never in the manga either. I can presume it's just stock concept art they used to fit in with the space adventure theme of the series but if these pictures hold any greater significance please enlighten me. I grew up with this series and can watch it over and over again and still enjoy it and as I'm typing this out I'm literally re-watching it now.
Lrdvltr Not long. I was a big dork and used to take long showers, so I actually LAMINATED the lyrics and stuck them up in my shower and would sing it over and over to myself until I learned it. :)
Essa música me deixa tão nostálgico, ao mesmo tempo que triste por esta a aventura que testemunhei acabar, ao menos para mim, pois estes personagens terminam essa estória apenas com o começo das suas aventuras :, )
Remember my oldest sister putting outlaw star ending songs on a radio. I was very small so she put it on to put me to sleep while she shower at night around bedtime
Love the fact that Toonami got the rights to air this show again and this time in HD. Now if they can only get the rights back to air Cowboy Bebop in HD while Outlaw Star is running on the same line up. Kinda sucks that they shortened the end theme. I want this generation of Toonami fans to enjoy the ED and the artwork, and fall in love with them both like I did when I first saw it.
The fact they were aired at similar times was what led to Outlaw Star being overshadowed by shows like Cowboy Bebop. I think Outlaw Star is getting its own time is a breath of fresh air.
i miss the good old toonami . thats what made cartoon network amazing . along with dragon ball z , gundam, yuyu hakasho and many other amazing anime that was played on toonami.. after cartoon network kicked toonami off the air , it kinda went downhill . ya they had good shows then and now like chowder , regular show and gumball . everything else is just eh . they brought back toonami , but it just wasent the same =/.... even though cartoon network isnt good as back then , i was glad i got a chance to watch toonami back then . brings so much memories to me :')
@@Suntro The best of memories🥹 . I miss those days. Life was simple. I hope the kids of today have the same sort of joy we shared when we were much younger
This ending theme stuck in my head even though it has been 12 years since I have heard the song or watched the show. Just started re watching the show and when this song started I was bombarded with emotions. I find the song almost haunting and the artwork just mesmerizes me. Who is coming with me in this Feel trip
This is one of the songs I have in my EVE online playlist. I'll be sitting there near a beautiful planet, the sun glints off the hull of my battle-cruiser. The fleetcomms break out in chatter, enemy fleet nearby... time to go.
Outlaw star always make me a bit sad that I can't adventure into the wonders of space on such a beautiful story. God this anime is so underrated. I will always swear it to be better than Cowboy Bebop (and thats saying something because bebop is the shit) yet it doesnt get as much recognition. I'm simultaneously sad and happy that there was never a OS sequal. The contained story that we got is the ultimate adventure with a perfect ending. Not like all this milking they do these days with no regard to the art of the story.
It came out along side Bebop, so it has a big shadow cast over it. I saw it on cartoon network. So yeah... I love it, but I was lucky to catch it when I did. Otherwise I may have never watched, but now I love watching old and new anime. All thanks to series like this. I'll give anything a chance.
My fucking childhood man. I'll always remember Outlaw Star as one of the best anime I ever had the pleasure of watching. I can't listen to this song without tearing up and feeling intense emotion.
20 years later, this song still has a special place in my heart. Long live Outlaw Star, long live Toonami

Outlaw Star, DragonBall Z, Tenchi Universe, Gundam W/ G Gundam...man we had it made with the original Toonami...
You can say that again, those were the days!
Always loved the art at the end. So painfully beautiful.
First watched Outlaw Star on Toonami 12 years ago. Oh, how I miss it!
Yea, what a gem huh.....
This ending theme is what got me into anime/music.
Now we're adults and are left with these artifacts of our youth and the nostalgia that follows.

Kinda sucks that they shortened the end theme. I want this generation of Toonami fans to enjoy the ED and the artwork, and fall in love with them both like I did when I first saw it.

This is one of the songs I have in my EVE online playlist. I'll be sitting there near a beautiful planet, the sun glints off the hull of my battle-cruiser. The fleetcomms break out in chatter, enemy fleet nearby... time to go.
I'm crying of the memories my god
Oh, I meant english subtitles.. Sorry.
I love Japan with all my heart.... Even this pearly Ghost of Sparta has a soft spot for Japan... I will have a Japanese wife I will....

yess guys . love u two
Outlaw star always make me a bit sad that I can't adventure into the wonders of space on such a beautiful story.
+Mr. Vengeance so true. underrated like no other
+Mr. Vengeance Only Anime that ever made me cry lol, melfina's song did me in. i've had both versions of this song saved for years.
Olothktonos Nice. I love this piece of art so much that I respect anyone that appreciates it as well.
There was a spin-off: Guardian Force Angel Links. It was 13 episodes.
Beautiful music I love this song so mellow
I'm so happy my sister outgrew her Outlaw Star DVD's! Now I just have to watch them, though I'm too lazy.:(
My fucking childhood man. I'll always remember Outlaw Star as one of the best anime I ever had the pleasure of watching. I can't listen to this song without tearing up and feeling intense emotion.
