    I'm in love with the sapphire nitro+, I would run on the quiet bios and undervolt it to run in my 650 W Gold Seasonic PSU, it's only more 40 W than my 3060 ti, I have a 65 W ryzen 5600x, that gives me margin vs a 120 W CPU.

    Fun fact: XFX 7800xt Merc is not correctly specified in terms of dimensions on the website... It's about 5mm to 10mm longer depending on how you measure it, so if you are going to have a case with close GPU clearance, it might not fit...

    • @MouseTrapGL
      @MouseTrapGL 11 місяців тому +1

      literally had to use plyers to make it fit, closer to 340-350mm, and my case has a max around 330. Hoping that the Merc 319 is the only misadvertised card regarding size!
      The LED XFX logo burned out after flickering sporadically for a week or so. So now, stuck between going for the led-less Qick, or waiting for BF to maybe squeeze a 7900XT 🤔

  • @Stuart-rs3xd
    @Stuart-rs3xd Рік тому +3

    No-one mentions the fact you cannot fit ANY 7800XT to an MATX board because anything over two slots covers the System case connectors which are very tall and wont allow the card to sit home in the PCIE slot.

    Not sure why Amd ship gpus with voltage cranked all the way up , would love to see results of undervolted rx7800xt .
    My rx6600xt uses 165 watts at factory 1150Mv , i undervolted it to 1050Mv and Oc ed vram by 15% , gpus only uses 125 watts max , also i get 8% better performance.
    Rx-7800xt is 265 watts , undervolt it can bring down 30 watts and perform better , love to see results .

    Thank you very much for this great comparison and tech talk!! It's very helpful, because i trust your voice since your highly recommended Club 3D Royal King R9 7950 back in the days! The best card, i ever had. Did run cool on air with a whopping 20% more performance due to the overclock, like in your tests 🤩🙏 Now sitting on a 1080ti it's hard to decide between 7800xt XFX or the Nitro, but i'm leaning a bit towards Sapphire.

    Great video, thank you for so thoroughly testing things. I just built my newest system around an RX 6800 PowerColor Fighter ( which sadly died a week after the first POST for reasons I'll never understand) so I ended up replacing it with an XFX QICK 7700XT 12Gb Black Edition. I just ordered it this morning and was a bit worried that I'd made the wrong choice, kicking myself as I watched video after video saying to just go up to the 7800. Yours was the first video to show me a lot of 1080p data (which is where I game, I use a TV as a monitor lol) ((*Gamers collective horrified gasp inserted here*)) and I think that though it might not future-proof me, it will definitely do.

    In terms of components, the 7800xt is plainly a RDNA3 version of the 6800, not the xt. So it's still pricier than it should be. In these results there are some oddities between the Merc and Nitro at 1080p. Would be good to re-run a couple to see if they replicate. Though the results could also be due to the Merc allowing a higher power draw that becomes evident at high refresh rates. If I were to go for a 7800xt, these are the cards that would be on the shortlist. Will be interesting to see what Powercolor come up with too.

    • @syncmonism
      @syncmonism Рік тому +1

      580 USD (the launch MSRP of the 6800), is equivalent to about 688 USD today.
      If you adjust for inflation, the 7800 XT MSRP is lower than the 6700 XT's launch MSRP. 480 USD is equivalent to about 540 USD today, so the 7800 XT is clearly closest to the 6700 XT, or even the 6700 non XT, in terms of pricing. Maybe AMD was hoping that it was going to perform fast enough to be a 6800 successor, but that clearly didn't happen. The 7800 XT is around 43% faster than the 6700 XT, with 33% more vram, better quality coolers on most models, and various other features and improvements, so we're definitely still getting some significant gains in value from one generation to the next.
      Likely AMD was originally planning to launch the 6700 XT with a lower MSRP, likely very close to what the 7800 XT's MSRP is today after adjusting for inflation.
      Like it or not, inflation has been a lot higher than normal over the past three years, and our money isn't worth as much as it used to be. AMD isn't completely blameless for that, but they are definitely not primarily to blame for inflation.

    I think they are good cards at a decent price, just the names shouldn't have been XT otherwise they are decent just a little surprised the 7800XT fell just short in some games on DXR compared to the 6800XT however the 7k range is worth buying due to the HypR RX so I'm hoping between now and spring time I'll be able to save enough for a 7900XTX and wait for the 9k+ series for the next upgrade. overall good cards for the midrange hard imho for anyone buying the midrange to really want nvidia outside of brand loyalty unless going for the higher end. I swear by sapphire when it comes to AMD cards never owned a different brand when using amd despite my current gpu they are just very good even my 6800XT nitro + has the argb cable i just don't have a argb mobo atm like they say if it's not broken don't fix it, only thing i'd say is rgb on the card i have i wish them settings were built into the amd driver rather than the sapphire app, thou saying that you can overclock in the app and set it as a bios setting so pretty useful in other ways. xfx have come a ways since with these newer coolers they are rather slick and sleek my only thoughts on them is i'm not overly keen on the silver would like to see other colour versions of the same cooler shroud.

      Agreed. They don't consume less power when looked at on a components comparison basis. The 7800xt, with a component set equivalent to a 6800 non-XT actually consumes more power. With that it outperforms the 6800 significantly, but it's that comparison of performance to components to wattage that shows whether the design is or isn't more efficient.

    The 7800 XT naming is dumb. It's a 6700 XT successor, not a 6800 XT successor, though the naming isn't ultimately that big of an issue. It's using a mid-sized GPU, and it's launching at a similar MSRP to what the 6700 XT launched at. 500 USD today is equivalent to around 440 USD two and a half years ago, when the 6700 XT first launched at 480 USD, and the 7800 XT is about 43% faster than the 6700 XT.
    It's nothing new for previous gen graphics cards to be heavily discounted in price before many of the next gen cards replace them, and for them to have equal or better performance per dollar at those prices, yet many people are arguing things like "the 7800 XT offers little to no improvement in value per dollar over the previous generation", as if AMD is supposed to give us a major improvement in value per dollar over CURRENT pricing for the already heavily discounted 6800 XT (and other various heavily discounted 6000 series cards).
    Do you need to like the price of the 7800 XT? No. It sucks that average incomes haven't kept pace with inflation, and you could argue that AMD does share some degree of blame for that, though certainly not most of the blame.
    If 500 is still too expensive for you, then that sucks, because the 7700 XT is not worth considering at current pricing (even though it is fairly competitive against Nvidia alternatives). The 6700 XT is currently a potentially very good option at 330 USD, but stock will probably mostly run out long before the next generation comes out, and the 7700 XT is simply too close in manufacturing cost to the 7800 XT for AMD to ever want to give us a genuinely good deal on them. AMD definitely left a big gap between the 7600 (which is itself still over-priced at most retailers), and the 7800 XT, basically forcing people to buy previous gen, or used cards, if they want a good value lower-mid-range or upper-low-end graphics card, and Nvidia has also basically done the same thing, by offering poor value for everything other than the RTX 4070 (and the 4090 is arguably a good value as well, at least as far as ultra high-end cards go, but it's simply not going to be worth buying for the vast majority of gamers).

      You never heard of undervolting your GPU ? It's must dude , amd software is great , couple clicks and you get better performance and GPU uses 50 to 30 watts less , temps are lower by 10 degrees, why not ?

      @@skywalker1991 it didn't do much, -0.05V for 5°C different and still has annoying fan whine, manually tweaking your GPU shouldn't be a requirement, that's like saying "it's suck at stock but it's a good car if you tune the ECU". Unfortunately for AMD the claimed power savings of the 7800XT over the 6800XT is false imo, not fanboying, but the fact is the 7800XT is really 6800 in terms of Cores, ROPs etc with a higher spec’d name just thrown in for sales which brings the power draw down. The fact is thou the 7800XT is a more refined 6800 with better raster performance and better Ray Tracing performance. I feel it’s more of a RDNA2.5 and not necessarily 3.0 this generation. The pricing of the 7800(XT) is fair imo and the 7700XT should be around $379 to make sense.

    I've got an XFX RX7900XT merc 310 black and I'm really unhappy with it. It's too long (with the poorly designed support bracket) for most cases and it runs too hot. 105c hotspot with just regular gaming. I won't buy another XFX card after this one. No, it's not defective, XFX says that it's designed to peak at those temps for the hotspot. I've got an ASROC RX6700XT in another system that I'm far more happy with. Lesson learned.

      Why can't you undervolt it , most cards ships with voltage cranked up to max , just unnecessary.
      Each GPU is different , so who knows you lower voltage by 100Mv and temps goes down by 15 degrees, mine did .
      Also I get 8% better performance, uses less watts , never had a single crash ,
      Try it with and software it's supereasy

    Last Gen's 6800 (and up) AMD GPUs & the new 7000 series have serious power issues @ video playback (youtube, Netflix, video players etc.)
    40+ W is stupidly HIGH & meaningless... and while the previous 6700 XT consumes only 16W, the new 7700 XT doubles that power draw with a whooping 33W on "video playback"
    AMD should solve that power issue @ video playback at least in the next 8000 series.
    - No, I'm NOT UpGrading. I'll stay with RX 6700XT until the next Gen.

      If someone needed to upgrade from a way older card then yours, would you recommend the 6700xt over the 7700xt just because the 7700xt draws more power? Because in starfield, the 7700xt looks way better then the 6700xt. Only problem is it draws more power.
