I don't think anyone could argue about this selection. Anyone of these players could walk into any Test team in the world, and Sir Garry could walk in thrice - as batsman, bowler and fielder. Commendable job on a selection task of the tallest order!!! I must say that Chanderpaul must make my eleven. In this case at the expense of Worrell. That being said, any eleven selected would ruffle someone's feathers!!! As with any sport, variables such as era vs era and relative strength of the opposition must be taken into consideration.

Interesting eleven. You went across eras and had George Headley open. I would have done the same. Tough luck to Desmond Haynes. Agree with the batsmen picked, really they just pick themselves. I would have got Clive Lloyd in place of Worrell. He instilled the killer instinct in the players and got them to be ultra competitive which helped them dominate the game for 15 years. Batting wise he was as good as Worrell. I would have picked Jeff Dujon in place of Walcott. a specialist keeper who could keep day in and day out to the fearsome 4some. The pounding he took from the fast bowlers may have had something to with his deteriorating batting skills in the latter part of his career. But still was a great keeper. Again, I would pick Andy Roberts in place of Gibbs simply because no team stood against them anywhere in the world for 15 years because of the pace quartet. Garry Sobers was always there for the spin options if they encountered a turner.
Thank you for your wonderful suggestions and insightful feedback. Some great choices and selections. Let us know your thoughts on our other content on West Indies rankings as well.
@@bAkra60 Agreed, the point I was trying to make is that the 4 fast bowlers will decimate any batting line up anywhere in the world. Sobers spin is bonus. I grew up watching them in the 80s and they were scary.
From1961to the Australian tour of 65 Rohan Kanhai was the top batsman man of the WI team. But he’s generally disregarded by those in the Islands Compare the stats of Sobers a nd Kanhai during that time.
Please allow me to name my Caribbean 11 and then I will explain my reasoning:1) Hunte, 2) Greenidge, 3)Headley, 4) Weeks, 5) Richards, 6) Sobers, 7) Walcott, 8) Roberts, 9) Garner, 10) Marshall, 11) Hall. Now, in my opinion, Headley is the greatest Caribbean batsman, he set the standard for others to follow. The great Australian spinner Grimmett once said Headley was the best batsman in the world, the reporters ran to Bradman and stated what Grimmet said and the great man just said, if he said Headley is the best batsman then he is the best. The three greatest Caribbean opening batsmen are Hunte, Greenidge, and Fredricks. GG is a better batsman but Freddo is the better opener. People used to say that Freddo could not play spin but he scored two hundreds in India, then saved the team against England on a turning pitch in Trinidad with the longest and most boring innings of his career, there was also another boring innings in England when he scored 150 plus when the ball was swinging. The test debut in Australia when MacKenzie hit him in the head but he batted on earning the nickname Cement Head from the Australian fans. There is no need to mention Perth in 75/76 I believe that Robers is the greatest fast bowler to come out of the Caribbean. Kanhai is the greatest batsman, I have had the pleasure of watching but I don't have a place for him in the team not even as the keeper, the position goes to Walcott the coach who visited Port Mourant and saw him, Madray, Butcher, Solomon, and took them to the trials Guyana trials Georgetown. Sobers will bowl back of the arm spin in the team so there is no need for Gibbs.

💯👌🏽🎖️Excellent All Time WI Team. Hard to argue with your picks but some brave selections as well. For example Worrell as Captain over Lloyd and Headley to split the best opening pair WI has ever had. Hard luck for Haynes to miss out. 🎉Roberts on the bench? Hmm some would not have that but I see the logic. Interesting that we don’t have an all time left arm quick to speak of….
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Yes, the Worrell over Lloyd debate would always be there, we could have also had Sir Everton Weekes at 5 instead of Worrell with Sir Viv to lead. However, in the end, we decided to go with Worrell. Haynes was also unlucky since we brought in George Headley to open, and Andy Roberts would come in if we go with an all pace attack. In that scenario, Lance Gibbs would miss out.
Your comment on the lack of left arm quicks in the West Indies is an interesting one. There have been a few but none that have been able to live up to the great West Indies fast bowling legacy.
Good team guys, I'd have gone for Greenidge, Hunte, Headley, Richards, Lara, Sobers, Dujon, Marshall, Ambrose, Holding, Gibbs. I think the test of an excellent side is how many of the team are automatic picks. I think only Richards, Sobers and Marshall would get in everyone's 11s. That shows how strong our crop was. So many special mentions that didn't make it. A second and third 11 would be one of the best sides of all time too!
My all time west indies eleven would be Sir Conrad Hunte Sir Gordon Greenidge George Headley Brian Lara Sir Vivian Richards ( Capt) Sir Garfield Sobers SIr Clyde Walcott Malcolm Marshall Sir Andy Roberts Sir Wesley Hall Lance Gibbs
A very good list but not the best. Here's arguably the best XI in Test Cricket History. Greenidge, Hunte, I am going with the best openers no make shifts. Richards, Headley, Lara, Sobers, Hendricks, Marshall, Holding, Ambrose and Gibbs. Reserves are Weekes, Roberts, Dujon and Haynes.
It was tough to fit in Andy Roberts in the all-time West Indies XI. He is our 12th man in this XI. If we go with an All pace attack, then Sir Andy Roberts comes in for Lance Gibbs.
I don’t think you guys need a spinner. No disrespect to Lance Gibbs. No Garner, no Roberts, no Walsh. You guys have made the opposition batters a bit happier.
Andy Roberts would come in for Lance Gibbs if we go with an all pace an all pace attack. But a specialist spinner is most conditions is a must, hence we decided to put him in. Thank you for watching and being part of our community 😊
@@thereversescoopUSA thanks for replying, I understand one would need a spinner but as the great Windies sides of 70s and 80s demonstrated, they didn’t need a spinner. Remember them going to India after 83 WC final and trouncing them in India like no other team before or since has managed. And all this without a spinner. Besides, Lance’s test average or strike rate is nothing like the guys I mentioned.
We discussed that as well. Some potential changes could be Weekes for Worrell and Roberts for Gibbs if we go with an all pace attack. In that case, Sir Gary Sobers, or Sir Viv would lead.
@user-xz2jb8fk6c those are some great suggestions. We discussed going with an all pace attack, but in the end, settled with Gibbs the spinner since we had 5 pace options in the lineup already.
@thereversescoopUSA you already have Frank Worrell and Sobers bowling spin and Viv too. You don't need 4 spinners in a west indies team our strength was always in fast bowling.
@user-xz2jb8fk6c but a specialist spinner is always a must in a test line up unless the surface and conditions demand otherwise. Would you go with an All pace attack in India? Pakistan? Or even in home games? Australia, South Africa, and may be England are only places where an All pace attack might be suited.
My team stands like this: 1) Greenidge 2) Hunte 3) Richards 4) Lara 5) G. Hadley 6) Sobers 7) Dujon 8) Marshall 9) Holding 10) Roberts 11) Ambrose I want a couple of specialist openers. Sir G. Hadley batted at no.3. Let him bat in the middle order. Similarly, i want a specialist wc to keep the stumps against the most fearsome, intimidating pace attack. Hence Dujon as wc at no. 7. Sir Walcott was too great a batsman to come at no.7, n he kept wickets only for 15 test matches, not enough to prove his credibility as a keeper. I don't nd a specialist spinner with the kind of a pace battery this team has. In fact, Sir Sobers, the greatest of all, can do the spinning if nd be. Plus, we've Richards, whose spin could come handy.
Listening to you guys talking about the all times greatest wi batsmen and bowlers, I would like to know what is your criteria. Which you used to select the players them, because there are two ways you should be using is .By the amount of runs and centuries that the batsmen them scored and, the amount of wickets a bowler took during his career playing for the wi team. Because the leading leading wickets taker wickets taker is not in the team and that is Walsh. Also Chanderpaul is the 2nd leading runs makers also Gayle, is the 3rd highest scorer for the wi team. Plus he is the 2nd highest centuries makers of all times for the wi team, you guys are some big jokers .If you are not using the players them stats for selection, that means you are a very big jokers.
Headley never opened, Richards and Worrell did, so I would shuffle Headley down to #3 and have Worrell open. Walcott s/b replaced by Dujon. We need the best of the best in wkeeping skills since the batting has been adequately covered and he kept to most of the pace attack with acrobatic athleticism. For the bowling, variety edges firepower since this team will be playing all other AT XI's under all conditions. Thus Gibbs over Roberts or Garner. ' Caught Sobers bowled Gibbs ' was a common refrain in the 60's where Sobers would pouch amazing catches in the short-leg position.
I agree with Gordon and I will open with Headley. Then will come viv lara with shiv at 5. Sobers at 6. He will be my captain. Dujon for Walcott. Marshall. Garner Ambrose and gibbs. I won’t play holding. Both garner and Ambrose have better averages.
Its impossible not to include the great shiv chanderpaul in any west indian team period! Hes the most reliable and dependable batsman the west indies produce!

There is no need to mention Perth in 75/76
I believe that Robers is the greatest fast bowler to come out of the Caribbean.
Wow, what a wonderful all-time XI. Thank you for your detailed feedback and reasoning for your picks. it makes perfect sense. Let us know your thoughts on our other top 10 West Indies rankings .
@@thereversescoopUSA Solid stuff! Sound reasoning👌🏽🎖️💯
Thank you brother 😊 🙏
George Headley was not an opening batter.
Yes, we know, he preferred batting at 3, but we rekon that his technique was good enough to open as well, suggested by his first class stats.
Thank you for sharing your all time XI. What a solid team you mentioned. You are absolutely right about 2nd or 3rd teams, so many great players.
Maybe the test of an excellent side is how many would also be in a World Top 11 😮
Right, I can't disagree .lol
Lawrence Rowe, Shiv Chanderpaul
Big names there. What about Sir Everton Weekes?
My all time west indies eleven would be
Sir Conrad Hunte
Sir Gordon Greenidge
George Headley
Brian Lara
Sir Vivian Richards ( Capt)
Sir Garfield Sobers
SIr Clyde Walcott
Malcolm Marshall
Sir Andy Roberts
Sir Wesley Hall
Lance Gibbs
What a wonderful all-time eleven. Love it! Thank you for watching and engaging 😊
Thats a great all time XI. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
This is would be my team with the exception of one I would replace Lara with SIR EVERTON WEEKS
@ossieossie5511 That's a big change.. Not sure if we agree. Sir Everton Weekes for Worrell maybe with Sobers or Sir Viv to lead
Garner should be 12th man
Thata a great suggestion 👌
No problem with Lance Gibbs on the team but he must be at No 11.
Thank you for your feedback. You would have Ambrose and Holding ahead of Gibbs?
Weeks for Worrel. Sobers can captain.
Yup, that was a potential change we had discussed, sir Viv can lead as well.
Bowlers:MARSHALL,AMBROSE ,GARNER ,WALSH.Also cannot leave out EVERTON WEEKES
Those are some great picks. Thanks for watching and being part of our community 😊 🙏
How can roberts be your #1 all time windies, and not make your all time team.
Makes no sense
Makes total sense and some great points. 👍
Dujon*
Dujon was a master wk
Everton Weekes over Worrell sadly.
Yes, I think we agree too now..lol Weekes comes in if Sir Viv leads and Worrell misses out.
It's foolish not to name RB Kanhai as a captain 😢
Perhaps this was a tough task to name XI out of such a great cricket legacy of West Indies cricket. Kanhai unfortunately missed out.
no Weekes. No Kanhai
Some tough misses.there. Who would take out in their place?
@@thereversescoopUSA open with Lara and bring in Kanhai or Weekes in the middle
@chepaukground7608 that's a good thought.
Gentlemen. Worrel
Can’t make this side above Weekes or even chanderpaul. This has to be madness
We discussed that as well. Some potential changes could be Weekes for Worrell and Roberts for Gibbs if we go with an all pace attack. In that case, Sir Gary Sobers, or Sir Viv would lead.
Always against Guyanese
We're sorry to hear to feel that way. What does your All time test XI look like?
How wunna pick Frank Worrell and Clyde Walcott but leave out Everton Weeks? Everton was the best of the three W's.
Sir Everton Weekes was tough to squeeze in. Who would you bring him in for in our lineup?
@thereversescoopUSA you've selected a good team but I would leave out Gordon Greenidge and Lance Gibbs for Weeks and Garner or Roberts
Smh
🤔🤔
Gayle sarvan lara hooper haynes chanderpal ambros holding clark bravo jacobs.
That's nice 11
Sir Ivanhoe Vivian Richards is the GOAT OF ALL Batsmen...nuff said.
On point 💯💫
Ivanhoe?
Chanderpaul does not get the recognition he deserves.
Agreed! But with such a tich legacy of West Indies cricket there will always be deserved players that will be left out.
Ambrose is the greatest bowler west indies ever had, bar none.
Ambrose was lethal
My team stands like this:
1) Greenidge
2) Hunte
3) Richards
4) Lara
5) G. Hadley
6) Sobers
7) Dujon
8) Marshall
9) Holding
10) Roberts
11) Ambrose
I want a couple of specialist openers.
What a great list! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. Your picks make complete sense 👏
@@thereversescoopUSA Thanks a lot. 😊
@@pinakichaudhuru5010 you're welcome. We'll be dropping our Quickest West Indies Bowlers of All time episode tomorrow. Stay tuned.
Courtney Walsh disrespect noted
Who would you replace him with in this lineup?
Thank you for your wonderful suggestions. They make total sense. Let us know your thoughts on our other West Indies cricket ranking videos.
Awesome suggestions 😊. Makes total sense.
You make the most sense on here.
😃😃
Its impossible not to include the great shiv chanderpaul in any west indian team period! Hes the most reliable and dependable batsman the west indies produce!
Good point
