Greetings from Canada Ray. 🍁 Vindolanda Roman Fort and museum looks like a great place to explore. How fortuitous that the waterlogged soil has kept almost 2K yrs of history perfectly preserved. Amazing that you can volunteer for archaeological digs at the site. Had no idea that was even a thing. Very cool. Thanks for including the link to the Vindolanda Tablets. I think we often tend to view people of the past as being very different from ourselves, or possibly less “civilized.” Interesting to see that they concerned themselves with many of the same day to day, minute issues as ourselves. Not so different after all. The building (mausoleum?) at the graveyard is stunning. Both the museum and the Roman site look quite big. It must have taken you a good while to get through it all. As always, I appreciate these brief “time travels” into the past, as well as a glimpse of my beautiful England. Such a treat. Hope your weather has returned to more normal temperatures. I suspect that good English blood’s not used to such hot days lol.😂 Gotta say, I almost froze to death the summer I was over there. It wasn’t so much the lower temperature, but, I couldn’t get used to my clothes and bedding always feeling damp. On the upside, the climate does provide for that lush, breathtaking, green landscape that I love so much. Thanks for another wonderful video Ray! Appreciate you. Take care and bye for now. ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧👋🤗🌞😎

Hiya Jill 😃👋🤗 you are definitely right about the soil, it certainly doesn’t look or feel wet on top but I’m guessing it’s the consistency that holds the moisture 🤷‍♂️ I have thought a few times about volunteering but not sure my knees or hips could handle it for any length of time, I’d probably need to find a Roman hoist to get me back on my feet 🤣🤣🤣
Those tablets were such an amazing find and in fact I’m sure they will find more at some point. They certainly provide an insight into Roman day to day life. I find the whole sight very interesting, you can easily spend hours in the museum, those shelves of Roman footwear are amazing, like a mini Footlocker 🤣😂 the weather is pretty much back to “normal” now around 20-21c in this area with showers, good for all that greenery I guess 😁 🌳 🌲
I think if my clothes and bedding felt damp I’d be quite concerned too 🤣 thankfully I’ve never experienced that (yet) 🤣😂🤣
Glad you enjoyed this brief look around Vindolanda, one of the many Roman landmarks around here and certainly one of the largest. It is actually a “privately run” site, The Vindolanda Trust, which I’ve always found strange considering they are normally in the hands of either the National Trust or English Heritage. It is a charitable trust but it’s not cheap getting in 🤣
Until next time, take care and look after yourself 🤗❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦🇬🇧

Yes a great place to visit. Glad you enjoyed it. Probably spend less time here until I can diversify content and see if I can get more viewers again. 🤗👍🏻
