One thing that disappoints me about many of the 3D games on the PSP, and other newer systems, is the amount of hand-holding that they do. I started playing The Simpsons Game, and it was really cool to see the world of the Simpson come alive in 3D, but I soon gave up in disgust. The game literally tells you where to stand, where to climb, when to glide, which character to use, what to shoot, etc. It's like it was designed for five year olds. Or take the God of War games, although you can turn off SOME of the help prompts, it still puts a shiny spot on everything you can interact with, like the developers assumed you'd be too stupid to figure out that you can open all the chests in the game, or that you can lift doors. And if it wasn't insulting enough that they have to point out all of these things, when you walk up to them, they put a picture of a jump button on the screen, which is the developers literally telling you that they think you're too stupid to remember the controls. And then there are the quick time events. I absolutely f***ing HATE these with a burning rage! Why? Because they take all choice away from you. It's no longer about your fighting skill, or making the proper tactical choices, it's about pressing whatever you're told to, like a trained monkey. Unfortunately, this s*** seems to have infected practically every game today. Maybe racing games are still safe?
Have you tried souls-like games? These games have moderate difficulty, and you are placed on the map without knowing where to go initially. At least this is the characteristic for this game classification. I agree with what you said about games.
