- Hello everyone, Happy to see you back x)
Here's a new composition for oboe and cello, two of my favorite instruments. I particularly love the depth of the cello.
I'm quite happy with this piece, and I hope you enjoy it too 🤠
The next piece will probably be jazz or something similar ... because, well, I don't know much about it, but I'm eager to try, so any advice is welcome 😅
Thank you all for listening, feel free to let me know what I can improve, see you next time (soon, I promise...😌)
I've opened an insta page where I post a bit every day (🤥) and where my composition progress. Check it out if you're interested! : @tantanbpm_music
Here is the score with the pdf, midi and musescore file if you want to make changes :) :

the cat in the thumbnail is holding a clarinet 😭
omg you're right 😭😂, the two instruments look so much alike 😅
bro i thought i was trippin
Best
As a clarinet player I can confirm this happens all the time
Xd
If I didn’t have an empty heart and constantly dry eyes I’m sure I would be crying, this is amazing
♥♥
im so close to tears from this because i was at music camp for like a month and one of my best friends there was a cellist and I'm an oboist but the camp is once a year and we live hours from each other. thank you.
Bro, I went through the exact same thing, those are incredible moments. I hope you don't lose contact with the people you met there ❤️
Came for the thumbnail. Stayed for the beautiful music.
I love this so much! :)
Thanks bro ❤️
Finally a cello composition, I've been waiting for that one! Great job as always
Oh, that's right, you're a violinist, I hope that suits you x)
oboe player here! your composition sounds beautiful and i love the melodic lines you wrote for both instruments.
multiphonics in the oboe and woodwinds in general have very specific sounds and are probably not what you are looking for. I’d recommend finding a video of woodwind multiphonic playing to get an idea of how a player would approach it (talking about that Bb and D).
there are also sixteenth notes up in the high register, which when using high F and high G in those lines can be very impractical and thin sounding. the fingerings for those notes make it hard to play fast and you might want to consider not using high F’s and G’s in those sixteenth figures for the sake of your oboe players 😅
hope this helps!
Oh nice, an oboist, what an honor!
Thank you for all the advice; I suspected there was a problem. I don't really know the techniques for playing the oboe and more generally the woodwinds or brass instruments, as you might have noticed. Thank you very much for the guidance; I will take it into account next time I compose for the oboe (for their sake as you said 😆). I just knew that it was possible to get an oboe to play two notes with multiphonics. In any case, the oboe is a magnificent instrument; I hope you never stop playing it xD
@@tantanbpm If you want to know more about oboe multiphonics check out "Oboe Unbound" by Van Cleve.
Love the simplicity of this. In music, accessibility and simplicity are acts of courage, in my opinion. It's wearing your heart on your sleeve
Haha that's a funny way of thinking, thanks :)
@@tantanbpm Indeed! I think it comes out of academia tbh. There are many people writing very complex music that doesn't have a lot beneath the surface. When the music is simple there's nothing to hide behind
@@aidanmays7825Hmm yes, I understand. For example, those who do counterpoint just for the sake of doing counterpoint, where there aren't really any melodies. I have friends who do that; it's mostly for practice most of the time, but it's true that they end up only doing that. Maybe I should try it too :)
@tantanbpm There's a quote by Chopin that I'll butcher for you. Beginning students make simple music and it's not very good. The intermediate student makes very complex music and develops his abilities, but it's still not great. The master makes simple music again, and it's sublime
@@aidanmays7825 Hahaha, I see. I love quotes from musicians; the "master" level immediately made me think of Schubert's "Ständchen." :) But there should be a fourth category between beginner and intermediate, which is: "makes simple music because that's all they can think of and they're too lazy to make it complicated."
My two favorite instruments to listen to. Thank you for this!
you're welcome, thanks for listening :)
As a cellist, all I can say is yes. I love it.
As a violist you play the most beautiful instrument in the world, it just seems so fcking difficult 🫡
@@tantanbpm Thanks, it is a cool instrument. It can be hard but the viola is basically the same but smaller. It's a beautiful instrument that is very hard.
Some parts remind me of a childrens song from Argentina. You made a truely Beautiful piece
Thanks 🦥
Thank you more, I will look forward to waiting for new videos with cello teachers!
Cello teacher ??? Bro I don't know anything about the cello 😂
I just think it's a beautiful instrument.
But thank you very much ❤️, I plan to make a video tomorrow if I get a bit motivated 🦥
Wonderful!!
thanks ♥
This makes me swoon, you did such a lovely job. 😭I’m obsessed with how much the two instruments harmonize one another.
Thanks 🥹
This Is so wonderfully amazing! At the time of my writing this comment I'm almost in tears!!
God bless you!
Thanks bro, you just made my day ♥
I love the simple lilting melody, like a folk song and the polyphonic treatment. It feels so warm and safe, like nostalgia for a place I've never been.
The cello could probably have some more interesting parts, though. I can see that it has a melody line of its own, but it has Canon in D vibes cycling through some of the same ideas over and over again. It feels a bit like a lot of harmony while it can sing, intermingle, bounce off of, or have shared polyphonous ideas with the oboe.
And the oboe chord seemed a bit out of place. Did you mean for this to be played by an oboe ensemble? If not, adding that single double stop was a bit weird.
Finally, the chord progression was a bit stale, reminiscent of pop songs.
But despite those more technical thoughts, it felt good, and comfortable and I could totally see this being used in a movie about two friends, at the end, looking back on their lives
Wow, thank you very much! I'm glad to know how it makes you feel. It's true that the cello part could have been much better. I think I just don't have the counterpoint skills yet to improve that part, even if I had spent more time on the piece.
Haha, and yes, I made a little mistake with the interval on the oboe.
Thanks again and have a great day x)
How beautiful melody!
thank you ♥
That's so cute! I shipp it
Thanks for uploading!
thanks for listening :)
it's beautiful, I've downloaded the musescore file and I've done a version for two flutes (i just changed the instrument and the octaves) I haven't played it yet but I want to. Thank you for sharing your music
Ohh nice I'd love to hear it if you play it 🤸
This reminds me of the brook green suites especially in the cello
oh I didn't know, I just listened and it's magnificent
thank you
thank you above all for listening :)
Beautiful composition, the oboe and cello lines flow smoothly into one another and it is delightful to listen to. At the 1:12 mark in the oboe line, is there a multi-phonic technique you're indicating with the Bb and D double stop?
Thanks for the comment, to be honest I don't really know the techniques for playing the oboe and more generally the woodwinds or brass instruments.
I just knew that it was possible to get an oboe to play two notes with multiphonics, that's all. I'm more familiar with string instruments x)
Have a nice evening!
can you please make this into a Bb clarinet duet?😭😭🙏🙏
There's the partition in mscz (musescore) format in the description if you want to modify it (dw it's easy to do :) )
@@tantanbpm can u make a tut im so confused on how to use this😭
That's very pretty!❤
it is very beautiful 😊 ! I think I'm going to make an arrangement for 2 guitars if you don't mind
Oh yes, of course, I would be delighted. Will we be able to see it somewhere? On your UA-cam channel or elsewhere?
@@tantanbpm i dont really like to post videos of my playing to be honest 😅 but im probably gonna post the tab somewhere when im done
@@Jesuislerameauneur haha I understand, good luck :)
waw it's beautifull
thank you ♥
you left in an interval at 1:10
i love it though!
Yes, I knew that multiphonics existed on the oboe but apparently that's not really how it works :)
Thanks 🤸
That’s a very nice duet!
you tell me that after having made 36 minutes of music, you are merciless...
But thanks 😆
@@tantanbpm No I’m serious bro! I can’t write duets cuz I’m not good with counterpoint like you are so I admire the piece for that. But I also really like the fact that the texture combination is actually quite pleasant-in other words I watch your videos cuz I like to see well written chamber works since I struggle with it myself.
❤️
Can I give you a tip?
Instead of using C flats, you can use B naturals. It makes easier the reading of the score
2:20 You could also use a F sharp instead of the G flat
Thanks, someone already mentioned that in a comment. I'm too bad at music theory to know that :)
Very pretty❤
Thanks 🤸❤️
How do you make the scrolling video like that? Beautiful piece!
Thanks, for scrolling go to edit>preferences>advanced>fluid scrolling :)
What do you use to create these beauties?
that's very kind ♥I use musescore 4 with the software's basic sounds, generally called "soundfont" :)
Oulalah
cello comme toi nulloss
Very good!
Very nice, though the first note should an upbeat. The whole thing is sitting a beat out. You correct it for the section after the 3/4.
oh yes I see, thank you x)
In measure 30 I think, the oboe is playing two notes, is that really possible? I play the clarinet and I can't for sure so that
So I thought it was possible with multiphonic, but apparently it's with more specific notes (here it's not possible) (:
nice piece, it's just bothering me a bit that you wrote into your notation C flats while playing in C minor and G flats while playing in G minor (instead of B naturals and F sharps). The notation would be clearer and more readable 🤌 when you have part when you are playing in C minor and have C flats there, it's sort of like on purpose that you want to troll the players or something, literally 🙆😂
Haha, no, I don't want to troll anyone, I'm just really bad at music theory 😂
❤❤❤❤
Me with him
nice cello piece. btw I have a composition myselft. Would you post it if I send it to you?
I don't understand, you want me to publish one of your compositions? Why? It's your composition, it's up to you to publish it.
@@tantanbpmThen how to make a video like this
@@daniloapostolov-dacatv1536 I'm using musescore as a daw, as you probably know, in the musescore settings I've checked the auto scroll option. I've also set a background colour and changed the font to something a bit bolder. Then I use obs for record and add fade effects with vsdc or canvas (:
@@tantanbpm Thanks for explanation
Faltaría un sincopa de arpa y celesta.
You're probably right, anyway the harp goes everywhere, it's so fcking pretty
oboe cant play two notes at once:c
Yes it can with multiphonic, but I've learned from the comments that you can't use it like that, that it's with precise notes and intervals.
@@tantanbpm yep exactly
