- Perfect for the casual birdwatcher, or those wanting an idea of what birds they will find in a long weekend of birding up around Darwin in the Northern Territory.
Some of the species include the Crimson Finch, Plumes Whistling Duck, Comb-crested Jacana, Paperbark Flycatcher and many, many more.
We used Paul Thomsen from Wildfoto tours. Check out more information here - wildfoto.au

The Darter bird in your video is also commonly called, a ‘snakebird’ as most of its body is submerged below the water surface and its neck and throat is above the waterline and it moves like a ‘snake’ … 😃
Check my video from Joseph Banks park where I explain exactly that. Thank you for all your comments
Fogg dam is my all time favourite place for wildlife in the top end. I go as often as I can.
I wish I had more time to spend there. We were only three for 3-4 hours. Amazing place for birds.
Fabulous video! Stunning, now no need to go into the field for birdwatching. Perfect background music as well.
Thank you Gil. I’m glad I can bring these birds into your home.
Hey Robert I’ve started watching your videos at night with my mum to prepare for bed, this channel is so iconic, your camera quality and work is amazing, love the occasional narration and titles of all the birds. We love learning about all the different types in Australia. This is now one of my favourite UA-cam channels. Keep up the amazing work, you are my #1 birder! 🐦
Thank you so much, these kinds of comments make all the work worth the effort. We are very luck with the birds we have here, you will see I am also sharing videos from other parts of the world too. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Absolutely beautiful footage. Really love the egret footage especially.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. The egrets really did put on a bit of a dance while I was there, was glad I could capture some of it.
Really wonderful video 💫🌟 Beautiful images and great videography. Loved the pace and background music. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your comment, it’s feedback like this that makes all the effort worthwhile.
Please 🙏 do let me know if you can find out anything worth looking into, whether the Cuckoo-shrike is a member of the Cuckoo family, or a member of the Shrike family… 🙏🙏🙏🙏much appreciated 🙏🙏🙏
Ok I’ll look into it
Stunning footage and excellent presentation. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
...Glad you made it back too. Those "freshies" didn't look much friendlier. Cheers, from North Carolina, US.
Thank you! Hopefully one day I get over there to photograph your birds
My wife and I are flying into Sydney in a few days for our first trip to Australia! We have thoroughly enjoyed learning to identify Australia's birds from your videos. Most other UA-camrs put the name of the bird up immediately, but with your videos we can hit pause, figure out what the bird is, then hit play to see if we were right. It is way more fun and way more effective way to learn the birds than just studying the field guide. Your videography and photographs are always excellent. Thanks for posting these videos. We really appreciate it!!
Thank you so much for the great feedback. I know when I am travelling I also look for bird videos for locations we are travelling, they are so helpful. I hope I have given you plenty of locations to check out. Where are you coming from?
@@RogersBirdingHotspots We live in Sierra Vista, Arizona. It's a very popular birding destination because it has the most hummingbirds of any place in the US and we also have many other birds that you can't find anywhere else in the US.
Hello Joe from Sydney. My wife & I have visited the NT in 2022 & this year. Apart from sports & family, I am a keen wildlife photographer, particularly birds. Fogg Dam & Corroberee Billabong were my favourite places to shoot. Make sure you take the Waterlillies walk at Fogg Dam. In 2022, I was lucky to capture a Water Python devouring its prey on that walk. The snakes usually hunt nocturnally. I hope you enjoy your visit to Australia, as we have done visiting yours (6 times, 39/50 States). Cheers, John.
Gorgeous video Roger, enjoyed it very much. Loved the egret clips. I love Fogg Dam and hope to visit again.
Thank you Shelley. I wish I had more time there, need to make another trip up north.
Cool thanks mate
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Nice footages, good job, thanks for sharing
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Wonderful footage Roger, love the ducks!
Thank you Sonia. I was quite partial to the ducks too, nice to see something different than the usual black ducks and teals.
@@RogersBirdingHotspots loved the Storks too! Amazing colours ❤
Another stunning video!
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
What a brilliant trip!! I can't believe you went for only a few days!! Amazing footage & so many great birds. You keep beating us to these places 🤣 We'll get up there next year I hope ~ K
Thank you K. Would you believe that this was only 1/2 the trip (2 days) I have another video coming with the rest of the trip around Pine Creek. Thank you for commenting as it really helps the video. I am going to make a point of commenting on several of yours too (which I love)
@@RogersBirdingHotspots Wow you saw some great birds in 2 days! Looking forward to part 2 of the NT trip 😀I know it will be great!! We're a bit envious of your camera stabilisation!!
I know how fun it is to read comments! It always inspires me to make better videos (still learning as I go!) and yeah it does help to get noticed even more on YT which really helps🙂 I have to remember to comment more on your videos too!
@@naturephotographychallenge most of the video was done from a boat too. So that was extra tricky. I do get a heap of unused footage that is out of focus/way too shaky to use. I only shoot handheld too (maybe 5% on tripod) as I like the freedom it gives me.
The only predatory bird I have seen in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR is the Black Kite in the semi-rural areas of the coastlines along the waterfront promenade. I have also seen the Common Kingfisher, the Grey Wagtails and the White-wagtails. We also have lots of Chinese Egrets, Greater Egrets and Cattle Egrets, too.
One day I’d love to get to HK for some bird photography.
Some productive birding Roger. Great footage and shots mate
Thank you. It was a fun adventure
What is the behaviour of a Cuckoo-shrike ? Does it behave like a Cuckol, laying its egg in another bird’s nest 🪺? Or does it kill its prey by stabbing it on tree thorns and man-made spikes , like barbed wires ?
It all sounds so brutal. I am actually not sure if the cuckoo-shrikes behave the same as cuckoos. Must do some research on that.
May I please ask what bird species are resident birds of Australia 🇦🇺, and what birds are migratory birds in and out of Australia. 🤔🤔🧐🧐
in this video almost all the birds are resident species. We have quite a number of birds that are migratory, none in this video though.
