Man I love when I hear a song for the first time and everything just instantly CLICKS. This is so hooky. Love the melody, the piano, all of it.
That's the way it is with so many Spoon songs -- instant clicks. There's never a pause to wonder, "Do I like this song? Maybe I'll give it a few more plays." No with Spoon it's great before all the instruments have even been layered in.
@@seancavanaugh1434 Some of the stuff on Hot Thoughts took a bit to click for me imo, like Whisperilllistentohearit or Pink Up. I think it's because of that album being probably their most experimental. Once they clicked they CLICKED tho

Great drum track: simple, solid, and so so steady an underpinning it almost grooves.
Take 3+ minutes and listen to one of my current favorite "indie bands," the great and criminally underrated Spoon. It may be the THC or the Ambien talking, but these guys are 25 years in and killing it.

I don't know what is about this band but I have never heard a single song I didn't like. Everything they do is just consistently excelent.

I love how there's a flash of lightning right when he says "Wild" for the first time.
The stretch from roughly 1:00 to 2:00 strikes me as one of the suavest, most tastefully-produced, shamelessly Spooniest minutes in the band's whole catalogue. It's colossal and contained and prismatic. Honestly, it's been wild growing up with this band since the mid 2000s. My tastes have changed wildly, but each new Spoon album greatly exceeds my expectations. I'm a washed up millennial now, so what do I know about what's good, but my gut reaction is that this might be their strongest single since Written in Reverse?

Some bands won’t play the game and are penalized for it.
I'm of the opinion that the best musicians don't get much of any radio play. It's so odd that most of the stuff on the radio is trash, but the low key stuff is treasure.

Britt has spent way too much time in the presence of Hunter Darby, the notorious bassist/Svengali from the Diamond Smugglers, and has fallen under his spell. The results were inevitable -- it happened to Tenacious D, too...

More seriously, my fellow Lodge member Hunter has had a behind-the-scenes part in SPOON's development from the beginning, having roadied on several tours and played bass for the band on at least one.
Another Lodge co-founder, Greg Wilson*, was SPOON's original guitarist and was chiefly responsible for the heavily Pixies-influenced sound on Telefono. You should check out Greg's main band at the time, Sincola (Here's the video for their key track, "Bitch": ua-cam.com/video/ApuUewolxHg/v-deo.html) and definitely look up Hunter's legendary Wannabes (Here's his signature tune, "Dead By August": ua-cam.com/video/JwOeTR8gipA/v-deo.html).
The Wannabes' first CD Popsucker won the prestigious NAIRD Best Album award way back in 1995, and Sincola put out several records after signing with the prominent indie label Caroline, (also in 1995) but somehow neither one ever made it big.
