The same thing happened to my brother, he was about 30 years old, he almost died, he was having pain on his legs ,he was getting ready to go to work he didn’t think that it was serious , his wife rushed him to the hospital & the Dr. told him that he was lucky to be alive cause the blood clot was already on his lungs. That was 15 years ago, he is doing great, thank God 🙏🏽

Gabe Ekemezie , he took blood thinner for a year , then after seeing the Dr. for awhile, he told him that he was good . I hope everything goes well with you. Do you have a deficiency on your blood that causes your blood to get blood clots? Cause my brother and I have a deficiency of protein S, it runs in our family, i have to take Plavix to prevent a stroke, my dad had a few strokes, before having the last one while he took a nap & didn’t wake up Sadly😢 we had a lot of family members that had strokes some had died , but my brother is the only one that had pulmonary embolism, I hope that it won’t happen to him again. Take care God Bless.

You make me feel good. I felt pain in my left leg for a long time. My primary doctor keep me back and forth with different treatments and pill. Finally my leg was swollen and I started to feel pain in my chest. He referred me to a Cardiologist who found out after several test that I have pulmonary embolism. I am currently taking medication, but I don't feel well at all.

I'm recovering from a massive PE event. I had a huge saddle PE on both lungs. I collapsed, went into shock, and almost died. But, I'm here and I made it! I love your energy and you are right, it does NO good at all to worry! We have to live our lives even though sometimes it can be scary. I will keep you in my prayers. Thanks for the video!

I also had a saddle PE last month. I have metastatic breast cancer with lung metastasis so I didn’t experience the symptoms as anything other than normal pain from the lung mets. I’m still confined to my bed though, and on oxygen 24/7, and short of breath even with oxygen. I’m home now on hospice, but it’s all good because I’m comfortable and have a very peaceful place. And I know that God’s not through with me yet because I’m still here, right? So I just keep doing the next thing. It’s fun to think, every time I get to talk to someone about what God is doing in my life, is this my final assignment? I’m so ready to meet my Lord in person, and see the ones who went before, like my husband who went last November.
I figure when I go it will be from another PE, and it will be over quickly. I really hope I don’t go through the kind of breathlessness that gives me a panic attack, those are the pits.

I just got out of the hospital and naturally have been on my phone nonstop looking for articles, videos, etc.. and came across your video. I cannot believe the similarities. I had an extensive PE with a thrombectomy, 1st timer (knock on wood) and likewise it was unprovoked. I’m young, healthy, active. I was also walking, talking, joking and driving my nurses crazy lol I think the doctors are still scratching their heads. But even though I am a survivor I have stepped into that “what if” fear you talk about and I want to thank you for giving me that encouragement and motivation to live my life and not be sucked down by what could happen. You are an inspiration and watching this meant the world to me. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Let go and Let God!

Got out of the hospital on the 4th of January after a 5 day stay with PE, pneumonia, and Covid. I'm 43 years old, I have a desk job as an accountant, but I routinely exercise 6-7 days per week, anywhere from 1-2 hours, with moderate to very high intensity. This is how it started for me:
    - 11/28 - Monday after Thanksgiving I had a cough. I thought it was Covid, so I tested. Negative. I got progressively sicker throughout that week. That Friday I ended up at CVS Minute clinic. They tested me for Covid, Flu-A, Flu-B, and Strep. All negative. My throat was so sore I could barely swallow. They put me on 5-7 days of Augmentin (antibiotic). After a few days, I start to feel better, but have a relentless lingering cough at night, affecting my sleep. By about 12/9, I finally started feeling better.
    - 12/11 - I'm sitting watching football. Probably about 90 mins sitting in same spot when I get an intense calf cramp. I stand up to walk it off. That doesn't work. I lift up my jeans to reveal a hard, swollen, painful, itchy vein that is hot to the touch. Given my family history of clots (father, aunt, Grandmother all with multiple PE's), I decide to get it checked out.
    - 12/14 - I get an ultrasound done on my left calf. They tell me it's a "superficial thrombus", aka a surface clot. It's nothing to worry about, and will dissolve on its own in a couple weeks.
    - 12 /21 - That evening, I go out to dinner and a movie with my son for his birthday, and start feeling "weird". I have a pain in my side. I'm unable to really get a deep breath. At this point, I'm thinking it's gas. Interestingly enough, my leg starts feeling better this day.
    - 12/22 - I'm sitting at work and laugh at a joke. This causes an intense, sharp pain in my right side. I decide I need to go get checked out. They do a chest X-ray. They say it's nothing. They prescribe me prednisone (steroid) and Voltaren (yes arthritis cream), dismissing it as a pulled muscle. I work out daily; I know when I pull a muscle.
    - 12/28 - After taking the prednisone over Christmas weekend with no relief, I'm back at work, and getting winded just talking to people. I'm thinking I may have pneumonia. Urged by some co-workers, I decide to go to Urgent Care. I get another chest X-ray. They say it looks like pneumonia. Give me a Z-pack (azithromycin) and tell me if it's not improving (the pain in side and shortness of breath) in 24-48 hours go to the ER. They do a 24 hour Covid test. The next day I get a message that it was negative.
    - 12/30 - For the first time in a week, I'm able to sleep on my right side. But I wake up, shortness of breath worse, and an even worse pain now on my left side. I go to the ER. They do a CT scan, and a short time later, they come back to tell me I have pulmonary embolisms and pneumonia. About to get admitted to room, they say they need to do a respiratory panel first. Around 5:30 AM, the next morning, they take me up to my own room, and tell me I also tested positive for Covid.
    - 1/4/23 - I was discharged from hospital after passing the 6 minute walking test, with oxygen levels only dipping below 90 twice, and rebounding quickly both times.
    - 1/7/23 - I started doing very brief, very light 5-10 minute stretching and breathing exercises a couple times a day. This seems to help oxygen levels, once I regain my breath.
    - 1/12/23 - I had follow-up with doctors. After nurse and doctor read my chart, they seemed surprised that I'm doing as well as I am, as soon as I am. I get clearance to start back to gym, with the only restriction being "don't be Rambo".
Since then, each day's been a slight improvement. I still get tired pretty easily, get winded way more easily than I ever have before, and am sleeping 8-9 hours / night. This has been my exercise routine since then:
1/12 - 30 mins light walk on treadmill (2.0-2.5 mph)
1/13 - 30 mins light elliptical (level 6); previously would do level 10-12
1/14 - 3 light sets 10 lat pulldown; 3 light sets 10 seated row; 20 mins stationary bike; 10 mins elliptical (level 6)
1/15 - 4 light sets flat bench press; 4 light sets incline bench press; 2 sets light dumbell skullcrusher; 2 sets light tricep extension; 4 sets light bicep curl; 30 mins elliptical (level 6)
What was encouraging was my oxygen levels seemed to be higher WHILE, or right after working out, likely due a very heavy focus on breathing. After a couple sets on bench yesterday, I read 99 for the first time since this all began.
I'm aiming for a 40-45 min light walk tonight (avg 2.5 mph), and 30-45 mins light cardio every day this week, with 2-3 days of 10-12 light weightlifting sets.

I have had good health all my life. (I’m now 60) Last summer I was diagnosed with a chest infection. After 5 days of antibiotics I didn’t feel better but worse. I phoned the doc and he told me to go to the hospital immediately. The consultant told me I had blood clots all over my lungs and one in the main heart valve. I was hours away from death.
I’m on blood thinners but have been told I have PTSD. I’m getting better but this has shook me to the core. Making me feel
I’m on a mission now to get things sorted. But your video has encouraged me to chill and relax. I wasn’t a spiritual person but someone upstairs was looking after me 😊

Recovering from DVT/PE in early February’21,slow recovery and lots of anxiety about the future.Left leg was very sore and swollen, decided to start walking and swimming everyday but the biggest help was juicing every morning.
    One red Beet
    One Apple
    Fresh Ginger
    Fresh Tumeric
    Fresh Garlic
    Juice of 2 lemons
    Juice or blend and strain.
Noticed the difference in two days, leg pain and swelling decreased and lungs felt much better. No alcohol or sugar. Its working great for so far and my anxiety is almost gone. 👍👌

OMG THANK GOD I FOUND This VIDEO!!! I'm 28 years old and I had an unprovoked DVT/PE they found after I fell on the ice in February. I thought 🤔 I injured my knee, and Orthopedic thought I fractured it based on symptoms. After an MRI they discovered a DVT blood clot and I got prescribed Eliquis!! After 4.5 days on Eliquis I was having chest pain, leg swelling wouldn't go down, and leg pinching was unreal, so I went to the ER. Turns out I had multiple PE in both lungs. I got admitted to hospital ASAP. I live in Cleveland, and definitely grateful for Cleveland Clinic. They think clots have been there awhile and that the fall revealed them. I had no idea!! I'm not obese, don't smoke, drink, or drive even, I take bus everywhere,I'm very active. So I don't know how this happened.
I'm on Warfarin now, and man this is some crazy stuff!!!
    I'm glad 😊 I'm not only one.

Despite walking into the ER, I wasn't allowed to get out of bed for a couple of days. Once I could, I took some photos of me doing pretend "pole dancing" exercises with my IV pole since I still had an IV for seven days. Gabe, thank you so much for your awesome testimony here. I am a white man (age 53, so much older than you.) I want to thank you for your courage. On Aug. 30, 2017, I went to hospital after suffering severe shortness of breath and awful pain on my left side as if someone was pushing against my left lung gradually but increasingly with a big boot that just kept pressing in. The diagnosis was bi-lateral pulmonary embolism (I have clots in both lungs). You are a man of faith. I am too. Regardless of all this pain, and all the perceived differences among people, can we please just pray for each other, me for you and you for me? You have such a loving and beautiful spirit - - such a strong spirit. Man, I tell you, this is kind of crazy (what I have been feeling and the stuff that's been going though my mind), but I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and I know you do too. -Tom in Michigan

I know how you feel becaue it can be very tough both physically and mentally. Just remember to hold on to that faith and if at times you feel like it may be slipping just go back to the word and read on it, look up healing scriptures, the promises God has for us etc. Faith comes by hearing! Which has been soo true in my case. Thank you again for your kind words and God bless!

Dear Gabe, sorry I had to preface so many things by referencing stuff that doesn't in the end matter in this life (age, or black/white, and all that stuff). That was out of pride on my part? Or wanting to set a good tone with a man I will never meet but with whom I was impressed through his courage? We are always in this life, it seems, putting up facades or "fake faces" in one way or another. Thank you for forgiving me instantly.
Jesus knows your heart and that's what's most important. Your heart is pure and ready. You posted a video. I have no such courage or energy! I am so in awe of what you did! To know that I am in YOUR prayers is awesome and so very comforting. You are right that it is both physically and mentally tough to get through this "PE thing," as I say. But we will power through it. God bless you in that this is your second experience. Let's go on to do what we need to do, go on to bless others while we do it, and be at peace. With love as your brother in Christ, continue to power on, good and faithful brother! -Tom :)

Anxiety, panic attacks, I cannot tell you how many times I have been to the ER only to be fine. Having gone through this, changes you. Thanks for sharing your story! It’s been almost a year since I was in the hospital for my PE episode. It all started with what the doctors assumed was bronchitis - They gave me antibiotics and let me know that shortness of breathe was going to be a symptom. Fast forward 2 weeks later, nothing changed & it felt like it only got worse (which it had) I could barely walk from my bedroom to the bathroom which was about 10 feet - It sucked. I went back to the doctor & requested to see someone else so that I could get a second opinion. This doctor also said bronchitis and gave me more antibiotics & also an inhaler. The following weekend, I woke up from not being able to breathe, which normally resting was the time I could FINALLY relax... So I mustered up the energy, swallowed my pride, and had my fiancé take me to the hospital. Long story short, my left lung was 97% blocked and my right lung 87% blocked. They gave me 2-3 hours before I would have internally suffocated, collapsed, & died. The craziest thing was that I was a successful collegiate athlete & to this day, have no idea what caused the PE.
It took a tole on me... Mentally, I was in a really rough place that I had never experienced before. Being 22 and told that I almost died terrified me. And just like you said, it is something that still scares me. Luckily, we know the symptoms now, & the silent killer will not get the best of us!

Thanks for this. I had my first PE about a month ago, but was correctly diagnosed a week ago. It’s kind of scary cause my symptoms were passed off as anxiety twice. I started to feel crazy and hesitated to go to the ER for a third opinion. Luckily my sister talked me into going. I was more relieved getting a PE diagnosis then an anxiety diagnosis cause I knew something was seriously wrong and Xanax wasn’t solving the problem.
It’s only been a week and I’ve already realized that some days are going to be better than other, but I will get through this!
Hope everyone’s recovery goes well, and keep looking at the positive things in life!

4 months after you in September '17 I had a completely unprovoked saddle pe, on the Monday I went to the hospital unable to breathe, I was told it was my asthma and sent home, on the following Friday I collapsed, fitted and got blue lighted to hospital, I was told I had a massive saddle pe, and one more hour and I would have been dead, there's a 2% survival rate with that kind of pe. I've had loads of health issues with my heart ever since but I'm thankfull I'm still here overall. Your video is really informative and your symptoms or lack of, is very similar to my experience, hope you're recovering well x

I appreciate you Gabe. Just experienced my second PE. My first was in 2012 after a surgery and the second incident was last week. The calf symptoms happened about a month ago and I woke up last week with chest pains and went to urgent care. UC sent me to the emergency room and I was told I had one clot in each lung. I am recovering now and am feeling better day by day. I have the mentality of living life and will watch my diet and take it easy and don't stress. Thank you brother! That was a fantastic encouragement. I had bilateral pulmonary embolism in March and it absolutely crushed me. The thought of feeling that pain again even, writing about it right now, makes my eyes well up in tears. I have had to go to the emergency room thinking that I was having reoccurrences and they told me they wouldn’t change anything even if I was, I would just stay on the same meds (Xarelto). So I decided to get off medication and give up that part. I have no idea what the future holds. I am a Christian and some friends of call me “death wish“ because I do look forward to being with Christ. But it’s that feeling of “it could happen any moment“ especially towards the pain and suffering. Again thank you I don’t know what I’m trying to say but great video. God bless!

Aaron Knudson thank you so much for your comment man! And that's ok bro I know exactly what you are trying to say 😊. I know it can be scary but remember God didn't give us a spirit of fear but of love and peace of mind. Never forget that! And I get wanting to be with the Lord but dnt throw the towel in too early my friend...thats exactly what the enemy would want you to think. But If Jesus wanted you by now you would be with him already lol . But you're still here which means that there is a REASON. You have a major purpose for your life and are meant to do something big! Remember that and ask for strength when you feel like times are getting difficult. I wish you all the best and will remember you in my prayers that this was be the first and last time you'll experience that! Take it a day at a time and stay strong my friend. Gabe Ekemezie
Hi Gabe - been out of the hospital a month now. My doctors are saying the same thing they told you: they don't know how I've been walking around with this thing in my lungs for so long, as it is massive! Said if I was any older, likely I wouldn't have survived. Quite a sobering new reality. Feel like I've been given a second chance at life!
Recovery seems slower than I imagined. I did not have chest pain when they found this, but I do now. Did you have chest pain through your recovery? If so, how long did it last? Did it gradually get better?
I am on Xeralto as well. Did you experience any side effects with it? Migraines? Sleep disturbances?
Sure hope you're doing well still and that you are enjoying this Christmas season!
Thank you again for your encouraging video.
      - Corrie

Corrie Van Oostrum Hey Corrie! So glad to hear from you and that you are on your way to recovery. And to answer your question yes I did. I didn't really have much pain when i was in the hospital but a couple weeks later I started having chest pain and actually went back to hospital but they didn't find anything. The pain tends to come and go. It would last about a week or so before calming down and it has happened a couple times for me. So I think that's just part of the healing process but I'm actually suppose to be following up with a cardiologist in a few weeks just to make sure everything is ok.
I haven't really had any side effects on Xarelto but I know some people can, it's a bit different for everyone. But if you feel like the side effects begin to effect your quality of life or gets worse I would follow up with your Dr. Just so they know.
Glad to hear from you my friend 😊 take it a day at a time and I promise things really do get better. As always I'll be keeping you in my prayers. Stay blessed and talk soon

This is very helpful for me. Thank you so much!
I suffered from a PE this year, January 2019. I was hospitalized 6 weeks after my son was born. I live in fear every single day. The pain was worse than my two c section deliveries. Your video has helped me a lot..
I’m trying to be positive. I feel blessed and thankful to be here and to have survived the PE. I see a hematologist this April to rule out any blood disorders but my doctors believe it was from the pregnancy or surgery.
My mental health has been severely effected from the PE. I am working with a councillor as well and I hope this time next year I’ll be able to be off all meds and in general just be happier and not worry.
Thank you again for your video. It gives me hope

Just want you to know I've been dealing with blood clots since 1985. I have had multiple episodes of clots in various parts of my body including multiple PE's. Am now recovering from 2 open heart surgeries to remove major clots from my right lung, with another surgery in between to remove a liter of fluid and clots from around my heart. The reason I'm writing is to try to give encouragement to folks who may be discouraged by having to deal with any number of problems associated with blood clots. Life can go on and think you said it, its the choices that we make that gets me through the day. I choose to live my life and not sit and wait to die!! Thanks again for sharing your journey.

So happy to see this video and read the comments of those sharing their stories. It’s really scary and all the nurses look at you like you’re so sick but last week you were living life. Your story is similar to mine- the doctors were surprised I was walking around with an acute massive PE in my lungs. I had severe swelling in my calf but every time I went to urgent care I was sent home. This happened about 4 times. I feel partially failed by the health care system. I had to beg my doctor to give me a leg scan and then they found everything. I just had a feeling it was clots. Self body awareness is KEY.

Your story is amazing and came to me in a moment of desperation, I had a PE two months ago and I am still suffering from this thing I can't sing anymore I have no voice I have a hacking cough and the pain in my back and tried everything and it doesn't go away I speak in the softest voice you have ever heard, I used to sing at my church every Sunday and now I can't the doctor doesn't know why I lost my voice but I can't sing so I was really feeling down, I felt really inspired by your positive attitude, I will keep waiting maybe today is not the day, tomorrow is another day, I can't be thinking of what I lost, but be happy that I survived not one blood clot but several, I had them in both lungs, they were going to release me from the ER that day, thinking I had anxiety if it wasn't that the doctor touched my leg and I told him it hurts he wouldn't asked about it and I would have gone home and died at home because they didn't know what I had when I was there, this was my third trip to the ER and they let me go before, I couldn't breath and they said it is anxiety, just a panic attack, I was like no, I can't breath, it is not anxiety, but they didn't believe me, till that day when the doctor touched my leg and I told him it hurts he asked since when and then decided to do a test and found the blood clots. Thanks for your video, really helped me today.

Sure don’t wanna feel that pain again. But like you said, it certainly could happen again. We truly have no control over this stuff. Thank you for this inspiring video. I'm a 2-timer also. My last PEs were in 2009 but we found out I am a clotter and I have auto immune disease - dual risk. Was on warfarin until 2013 but went off. I just got out of a week long hospital stay (that included a brief stay in CCU). I'm having a really hard time wrapping my brain around this whole twice surviving a potentially fatal event. I like your take on choice. I'm a bit lost in the weeds as to what this means for the rest of my life, I see a lifetime of anti-coagulation therapy; and I've been scared straight into taking my meds faithfully, yeah a twice daily lovenox shot sucks but it's better than the alternative. Thanks Gabe, I am doing fine. The doctors have put me on Eliquis, of course to thin my blood. I’ve been to the oncologist twice where they took nine vials of blood from me and today I got the results back. Thankfully, everything came back negative which is good. It looks like that I won’t have to be on blood thinners indefinitely probably just for the next six months. They want to do another CT scan in three months to make sure that the clots have dissipated and no new ones have formed. They haven’t confirmed that the pulmonary embolism came from my leg. I’ve started eating better by joining Weight Watchers, and I’ve already lost about 15 pounds over the past month. I think that will be a big help plus I’m getting up and walking more during the day. My symptoms started on my left side in my lower back up to my shoulders. When it really started to scare me was when I couldn’t take a deep breath without coughing. That’s when I knew something was really wrong. It took about four days for me to realize that hey I should probably get myself to the hospital. After the results of the CT scan came in while I was in the ER, the doctor told me that there was permanent damage to the lower lobe of my left lung due to the blood clots. So that was a bit unnerving. Over all I’m doing OK. thanks for posting this video it was the first one I came across and watched all the way through after my little incident. I hope you’re doing OK too and don’t have another one of these things. Stay healthy and feel free to keep in touch.
