the Fastest, Best Handling, and Lightest truck I've built

- My new project is going to be the fastest, best handling and lightest truck I've ever built. I love building fast pickup trucks, but working with a fullsize truck does have its challenges, so this time we're working with the mid-size S-10 platform but will still retain V8 power, forced induction, and all wheel drive to make the ultimate 2nd gen S-10 Syclone
The inspiration for this new build mainly came from the COPO truck's performance at LS Fest a few years back...

I think a 4.2 Vortex 6 cylinder would be a great choice. A monster turbo and the bottom end torque would be awesome.
YES! Even the earliest variant of this engine would be fun in an s10 at stock levels, but of course LT would force feed it all the boost.
4.3. Vortech
Would it fit though?
@jpetersontrx that's what came in it stock. The 4200 he referring to is a inline 6 out of the Trailblazer/Envoy.
@@DaInfamous0ne yea I looked into it I thought he made a typo I just figured 6 cyl Vortech 4.3 ya know ....my mistake
As far as appearance mods are concerned... there are the Xtreme trucks which always looked awesome to me. Also they made a GMC Jimmy Envoy edition that had unique headlights and bumper cover
20 years ago, I watched an episode of TRUCKS! with Stacy David and Mel Fair and they took a S10 eXtreme extreme red with yellow stripes and installed an LS1.
Yea and nobody can find one now because they're so sought after... which is why I kept my S10 front end.
LT, it's about time you do something with an LT!
I agrree!
I agree, also. It would be cool to see a 5th gen block go into something................. on a budget!
You and the Stay Tuned crew should race after. Tony’s Sike Clone is an awesome build.
Just happen to stumble across this video. Glad you found out that the ZR2 rear end has a different pinion length and angle. That info is valuable for the 2wd S10 I'm building.
When you hinted about this project, I speculated it'd be a Syclone clone. But with a V8, it'll be that much better. Look into the Xtreme body kit and the ZQ8 chassis braces, too. This will be epic!
That is a build i have been dreaming of doing for years. Glad someone is doing it.
I think the LV3 would be a perfect candidate for this truck and they make decent power with a stock bottom end with a turbo. I’d like to see a new edge cyclone out of this. Plus you can make 700hp with that motor and keep it lighter than the LS/LT platform.
Just find a LV1 which doesnt have stupid DOD to begin with.
@@shadowopsairman1583 can always delete it with a tune.
Yes! This is the answer
Your Orange truck inspired me to build either an S10 truck or Blazer (S10) with all wheel drive. The last two months I was researching info on what rear end and front end would survive a supercharged LS. This video answered that question! I can't wait to see the rest of the build. I love how clean and factory looking all your builds are, so I will be following this one closely!
Not going to lie, I’m exited about this build. Just wished it was done so I could see the final result. Haven’t seen a build in a min and really looking forward for the end product.
Hey LT, while I generally appreciate your desire to take a path less traveled for power plants, given your competition goals, IMO just go with an all aluminum LS........ either Turbo'd, Supercharged or a big inch NA something like a 454LS. REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BUILD!!!
Front end looks way better
I really like the sound of the syclone. Such a unique 6 cylinder sound.
As stated a Vortec 4200 with a turbo would be killer. The RPM that can be pulled out of a built 4.2 is amazing. There is an article from quite a few years ago around the time they came out that a Trophy Truck team (Nelson Racing maybe?) had been playing with a built one and the comment that was made stated it sound like a swarm of pissed off hornets coming at you down the whoops section.
Calvin Nelson (nivlac57) has pulled good power from the 4200.
Extended cab syclone!! I cant wait!!!
What a coincidence that I was re watching COPO truck videos today !!
Looking forward to this project as well.
Perfect dime bag to start with!!!
Gotta go with a 6l80e if this all about acceleration. I finally managed to find a core for my Tahoe. Circle d makes a great kit for them!
Definitely following this build.
If you go with the same orange wrap as the CoPo truck the flares will look great on that one.
Looking forward to this build, LT!
Turbo it and race Tony Angelo 👌
that would be a blast!
Poly bushings in the front make a massive difference
Im so tuned into this because my S10 Blazer is basically the same as this, and This is exactly what I wanted... LS... awd.... fast and still have my 4 door S10 Blazer capabilities. And my blazer already has 3.73s front and back stock.
Has some Stay Tuned "Sike Clone" vibes. Excellent
Super excited for this build! I'm not sure you will see this comment, or if anyone else has already stated it, but zr2 models have different fenders and bedsides that have a reworked wheel arch (larger arch) and a flange that sticks out to mount the flare. So the zr2 flares aren't a bolt on for your truck without some decent modification to the fenders and bedsides. I'm sure you are more than capable of doing so, but just wanted to give the heads up! If you change your mind on flares and want some s10 extreme fender flares I have a set I'd be happy to send you to help with the project! Thanks for the great content
Looking forward to this build
This is LITERALLY the truck I dreamed of building back in 1999/2000. THANK YOU
Always love watching you make things work and moto" do it right the first time".. wish you were a Ford guy for those builds, but I will watch your content and videos!
I had a super rare 97 extended cab S10 fully loaded Automatic 2WD 4.3 vortec with OEM factory grey and black LEATHER interior with the factory floor shifter and console. I've only seen one other one but it didn't have leather seats, just cloth. BTW this by far is going to be my favorite build on UA-cam so far!
It was a sad day when you sold the COPO truck. That was by far the most exciting truck you had on the channel. I am however, looking forward to the S-10. I've wanted to make a newer Syclone for a long time.
Compact trucks are my favorite, looking forward to this.
I cant wait to see this truck come to life. If it was me building it id do a ls with a whipple on it. Put a engine in it thats easily available and cheap for hp.
LT’s Rear Track OCD kicks in Axel swap incoming 🤣🤣
I agree with everything back to stock but clear front market lens. Cool project. Refreshing to have a new build on the Chanel
Rad project and looking forward to watching the build
1993 lt5. Such a great looking engine. Maybe a 3.8 turbo, last one a new 2.7 turbo would be cool. So many possibilities.
Solid roller NA LS. Spin it to the moon.
Incredible all those Rock Auto/Dorman trim parts and lamps fit decently. Hopefully, the lamps won't fill up with water in a few weeks.
If I had to recommend an unconventional engine swap, I’d say a vortec 4200 i6 or its 3500 i5 little brother. Seems fitting for the degree of oddball or untraditional swaps you like
I do love the sound of a 5 cylinder…
I don't think there's enough firewall to core support room to fit either engine as they're longer than a V8.
Awesome. My project is a 97 S10 Blazer, and I did the same axle swap. Didn't have the problems with pinion angle/driveshaft length, though. Everything fit pretty nicely. Junkyard 5.3 would make me happy, since that's my choice. An L33 might be a cool option, since lightweight is kind of the them of the build.
My thoughts on the pinion angle is the shorter wheelbase of the blazer. Its got the same drivetrain but short wheelbase. And just like mentioned, swaps right in a blazer.
With a narrow rear end you can fit some 10" wide rears. Stock bow tie up front but you have to paint it red!!
A stock looking truck with some good power to me looks the best
6.0 super charged…..Great SOUND, Great power….
I’m also a big fan of the factory lights vs aftermarket.
My 07 Avalanche that I bought from a friend had aftermarket projector headlights installed and he gave me some led tail lights for it as well. I replaced the projectors with factory headlight housings and sold the projectors and also sold the led tail lights.
Lights just depend for me. A lot of aftermarket projector lights are trash. Some stock lights are trash. There are times I'd rather make a set, than deal with the ugly aftermarket or factory lights.
A whole cleared front light and reflector would’ve been cool
A new rabbit hole! Excited to see this play out. 😂 LS7!
Big single turbo 4.8 with heads/cam for some good rpm and linear power.
So excited to see an s10 build!
I wanna see a de-stroked LS3 with big cam and heavy valve springs! Something that'll rev to the moon 🌙
I believe the LS3 is lighter then the 4.3L
The wheels look great!!!!!
I would love to see you do a drag racing competition with this thing
To keep true to the Syclone I’d swap in an LF4. Twin turbo’d 3.6 making 472HP/445lb/ft stock and is capable of a lot more. And it’ll be lighter and cheaper than a supercharged or turbocharged LS/LT. Lastly they actually sound pretty damn good. Listen to some ATS-Vs or CT4-V Blackwings.
They sound yucky to v8 fans
Audi 5 cyl for a powerplant would be AWESOME!
Yes!!! I've built 3 ls s10's myself. Glad to see you are tackling it
Hell yeah, i have an S10 that i want to AWD swap but i will be going with the Vortec4200 Straight 6
This build looks like it's going to be great. Love the S10 my favorite small truck. You pretty much got the exact version I want to get an extended cab with 4WD.
I did a similar conversion in an S-10. I shortened a ZR2 rearend and used shorter axles made for an '94-'96 S-10 SS. I left the spring perch angle alone and used angled drop blocks to counter the ZR2's inclination. This all was far easier than trying to find a stock width, 8.5" rearend from an already limited production '94-'96 S-10 SS which allegedly only offered the 8.5" with 4.3 liter, 5 speed models. Caltracs were bolted on after.
Ls sounds fun. This build has potential to be your best feat yet. You will love driving this thing.
This is something I've been wanted to do myself
You can get a v6 to sound great if you know how to. But it takes a twin turbo to do it. Those wheels are zr1 c4 corvette if I remember right.
Daughter has an 02 s10, loves it same milage as yours, runs good goes good but as you know maine weather is eating away at it can't find another one , she loves that thing.
I'm following
Nothing wrong about a v6 but I’m glad he’s on the same page as me when it comes to the sound of the engine
Damn bro I love your content your choices of trucks are amazing
That s10 is gonna be sick af
Copo mini...... Nice
Great video brother, Awesome little truck.im a big fan of the S-10's ,truck and blazer.i have a bone stock 2002 2 door S-10 blazer lowered just a tad .keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing what you do next with that nice truck. 🤠🇺🇸
another vote with the 4.2 inline six. the "American Barra"
OK LT I can contribute a lot, from first-hand experience - we LS-swapped a '00 ext cab S-10 and it came out fantastic, it was 2WD and we used a 5.3L w/ cam and built 4L60 from 4th-gen F-body, the entire swap in 3.5-day holiday weekend thrash, truck was 4.3L driving Friday afternoon, was LS-driving Monday afternoon. Truck went 13.0 first time out, and was completely unsuspecting until you started it and it sounded like a 4th gen Camaro (lol) and has been daily driven since 2007. Issues to plan ahead for, biggest challenge is headers - we used OE 4th-gen Fbody manifolds and with modification they worked, we also had to grind clearance on the rear upper control arms & mounts as the space constraint is the exhaust interfering with control arms; different engine mounts will help/hurt as different folks sit the motor higher/lower in the frame. Other issue is maintaining A/C, we had to pocket the frame rail for the compressor and get custom hoses made but it works terrific. We were able to read the OE wiring schematics and with a couple specific wire mods at the driver's firewall preserved all OE gauges and controls. PCM was 0411, I can't recall if it was P01 or P59 but the truck had a cable TB so I think it was P01. We used custom efans (I make low-profile efan assemblies) and using every clearance trick we knew we got it all to fit and look factory, the packaging was very tight like 1/4" between waterpump and cooling assembly but it all worked great. We were forced to relocate the battery from the engine compartment, that is where we chose to locate the CAI/filter.
More: you ask about forced induction - in our build there was absolutely no way to use a blower, OE positive-displacement ones require significant hood bulge (looks waaay to aftermarket for me) and there is no accessory space for a centrifugal. We could have possibly made a large turbo fit mounted on the passenger manifold. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think there is enough room under the floor of the truck to fit twin turbos.
Hint on the NVG-149: the gears and chain from the 2500HD transfer case fit (direct swap) and are 33% wider, this is what I did to my Silverado SS.
Reply if you want pics and notes from the S-10 build.
And here I thought that L8T might find its way into this thing. Unless I missed an explanation along the way, the L8T mystery continues.
Man I’m going to love this build ❤
I'd say an LS 6.0 like a LQ4 or LQ9. That light s10 will rip being AWD. I love it. I am excited for this build LT. So awesome
LT the best thing to do is stuff an LS in it not necessarily supercharged, but I would go with the ceramic oil-less turbo in the back
Hell yeah, mini truck FTW. You can NEVER go wrong with an LS IMHO
“Well, no chunks fell out”… 🤣😂🤣…. Always a plus when dealing with wrecker parts lol.
As for engine choice? 🤔…. I’d say a 6.0 LS with a supercharger or a pro charger. Turbo stuff is everywhere, keep superchargers alive 😜…
Amazing WORK ❤️ 👍🏼
Woodgrain console is bravada also woodgrain door switch panels also but Dr's side is 4 door only.
I wired in some motors from swing out side glasses from a mini van to the extra cab windows to the rear window switches 🙂
Bro that thing is going to be a monster
4.2L vortec I-6. Insane power potential, and sounds awesome.
If you must LS swap, 5.3L is best bet.
Pinion shims wouldn't get you where you want?
Reminds me of my old green 2wd from college. Absolutely love these silly little hardest working trucks.
It'll look nasty slammed into the dirt if you go that route.
How does LT only have 145k subs? This channel deserves way more!
He has a young channel. He just quit his job and picked up a camera one day
A boost gauge where the 4x4 buttons used to be would be pretty cool
I've always like your OEM+ approach to your builds. Is there a S-10 Xtreme body kit in the future for this build?
Thank goodness video lt. And it’s not cause you’re getting old I follow u because u build the way my mine tells me to build but my pockets just never agree. Can’t wait to see more of this. I see where you’re going with it all purpose build I guessing. Still hoping for the cateye body for the awd chassis build. Seen on the next one keep em coming. #samenamegang
As the excab 4x4 trucks are a little chunky, I would try to find an L33 aluminum 5.3 to supercharge. Keep some weight off the nose. Add some 4th gen fbody rear disc's for more bite in the COPO style. They bolt on the the 8.5 easy enough. Some s10 extreme body kit and it will look slick
Hey Lawrence, thanks for the build video. currently building my Silverado SS Awd of 7 years. look forward to the S-10 build.
have a good day brotha🇺🇲
Tucson, Az
I like the build, I’d love to do the same thing but get a crew cab S10 bed and swap it onto a regular cab S10, AWD with an aluminum LS or LT.
Tony Angelo is already doing the Sike Clone with the v6. You should go bigger. ❤
ATLAS!!!!!Would love to see an engine/ project build that isn't powered by "yet another GM small block."
The Camaro V6 with turbos is one i'd like to see. But Atlas is *my* first choice.
I am so excited for this new build! I will tune in for all of it.
They put 8.5" 10 bolts(same Eaton posi) in manual transmission S-10s. They would however be the same width. They would also bolt in with the proper diff angle. And they are set up for sway bars already. And they have the Traction Damper mount on the passenger side. For anyone thinking of duplicating this build.
I've done tha factory shifter console on multiple S10's and Sonoma's pickups as the pickups never really got them. The cool thing is, that the connectors are almost always already there in the factory harness (even in the pickup harness's). And that makes for a nice neat install that just works. The only thing you really need is the console shifter column, as it also has the connector needed to make the shift interlock work. Plus, it will tidy up your swap and make it look factory. If you get oa column from the junkyard, make sure it comes with a key so that you can swap the key cylinder over and not have to swap out the door locks. The other thing that will be needed is you need the VATS to be programmed and there's plenty of UA-cam vids that show you how to accomplish that. The shifter cable is a direct replacement for the column one and is not an issue to install, with the exception of having to remove the carpet to access the cable grommet. Another neat thing is if your console is equipped with a tow/haul button, it will work with the factory PCM as the programming is already in the code. All it needs is a signal , which usually comes from the BCM.
Build a 8k reving LS3 using a 4.8 crankshaft. Destroked LS3 high horse power and low torque, it should match the light weight body and all wheel drive. The lower torque will help the drivability. Rev it like a modular engine.
Awesome channel. Every project is so unique. Keep it up brother
Thanks! Will do!
Idk I think it would be kinda cool to put the 4.2 inline six that comes in like a trailblazer. Plus they don't sound bad with a turbo. AKA the Ameri-Barra
They also used the instrument panel from the Fiero!
Really looking forward to this build!
Throw a vortec 4200 in there. I know how you like doing things outside the norm and I think you’ll like the 4200. Seems to be pretty stout with a few upgrades.
It wouldn't fit. LS barely fit.
Im so excited to see this build, id be interested to see a supercharged aluminum 5.3 in it keeping the weight low and the swap simplistic
Great build! Needs to have an aluminum LS. I would go with an LS3. Stick would be an added bonus
I agree!! I’m trying to keep this thing as light as reasonably possible, so an aluminum LS likely will be my engine of choice
Sick choice on the wheels, can't wait to see them all mounted up!! Great build LT
