the fact that someone went to these lengths to make a replica of an actual race course is amazing to me, i wouldnt call it accurate, but its been done within the limitations that this game presents. that alone is amazing.
It isn't a 'replica', and i could nitpick it a bit, but I drive on this course in Forza all the time, and all the turns are pretty close to the real deal, and the creator did an awesome job.
The big thing in Trailsmakers with cars is that their tires sink through the ground, and thus lowering the car. Add downfowrce to that and the cars hit the inclines in the road or simply drag over the road in general, i think the gimballs push the car up just enough to prevent it from sinking and dragging on the road and generate a lightweight good handling vehicle.
"Does this course just hate me?" The Nurburgring isn't called "The Green Hell" for nothing. It's one of the most grueling and intense race courses ever built.
The gimbal jets are set with negative output, so they pull the cars down. I do it on some of my cars so they don't flip sideways while turning, that's probably the same case here
I didn't know that was an option. I figured he had 2 on each side and set them up to activate on the side opposite the turn. So if you turn left, the right lifts a bit to prevent rolling and vice-versa. Though I don't know how effective that would be. The reverse of my idea makes more sense, using negative thrust on the same side as the turn to stick that side to the ground. Might have to load up trailmakers today and do some experiments.

for the gimbal jets, the way they work is: when you go into the programming, the is a power setting, which goes from -1 - 1. if you want downward thrust, you set it to -1 and it will thrust upward, just with the downwards animation
Hey Scrapman, I’ve come up with a solution, why there were gimbal-jets in the last I think two cars. I think if Trailmakers is so realistic in that point, that the thrust of the gimbal-jets are lifting the inner tires up and the effect is to press down the outside wheels, like the caster (wich u can regulate is pressing the inner front wheel down to lift the inside. That gives u more grip in the early stage of the turn. I hope it helped you and yep this is my first comment under your videos. I never dared to write a comment, cause I don’t speak English but I’m still learning it. You make nice videos, keep going I’m watching them since 3 yrs now and I enjoyed it every day.^^ Thank your

Fun fact: the world record of the nurburgring north loop is less than 5 minutes 20, wich is amazing because the race is over 20 kilometers long... I think you have to try on a bit to beat this record!
Fun fact: the nurburgring race track is the largest race track in the world. I believe its also second place in terms of track difficulty. Also i think its a pretty accurate map, i remember seeing the slight jump part (the part near the start where the road dips down abit and goes up alot) in gran turismo sport. Fun fact 2: the chapparal 2j (i think thats its name) used fans to suck itself to the ground for maximum downforce even while not moving. But during races, drivers reported an incredible amount of dust being kicked up by the fans since the fans basically suck air out of the floor of the car.
You should definitely try driving the Nürburgring Nordschleife in some other games, like Forza, Gran Turismo, etc. (I know it isn't your usual content, but it's such a special track that it's worth experiencing in other games.)

Nurburgring is called the green hell and has been used for many decades, its most likely the largest racetrack still in use with very difficult corners and elevation changes. The Chaparral 2j was made back in 1970 and was also called the sucker car, it used fans to get extra downforce and did most likely reach over 186 mph. btw i saw your videos about weird tanks and Chaparall was almost like equivalent of that to racing but with some success.
The circuit was really cool, and the Le Mans cars. When I saw the Chaparral 2J, Gran Turismo 4 vibes came in so quickly. The first thing that came to mind was a group c race at the Infineon racetrack
Many cars in racing are using "Downforce" to forcing the car more into ground and getting more grip into the wheels, if the gimble jet are upside so it will make the "Upforce" which is probably used to somehow "cheat" the different heights between the race track and it probably one of the possible solutions, and also if the gimble are left and right, probably it helping with the steering which is can cause "Oversteering" on the high speed, but since i dont know much about physics in Trailmakers i coundt comments more about that. better to ask some youtuber that has playing the sim race for better explanations since they will understand more, and probably had trailmakers game too when they try the car and course probably they can deducting the "secret" of the cars and tracks :)
Started video and immediately felt the Forza vibes. Tells you how iconic this track is if someone who has only ever played a demo of the game can recognize it
actually the gimbal jets are used to push up by such a small amount that the tires still touch the ground but the rest of the car doesn't, this lets the car have no problems with ground clearance and this also lets the suspension become even more effective, the turning strength is then strongly increased from the weight reduction whilst tires grip and traction remain the complete same. This overall increases the performance greatly, 👍
New MM idea: campaign challenge (in trailmakers) Start a fresh new stranded in space world, and then start getting the salvage. The best part of this course were the sections in which the texture was stretched. It made it seem like you were going faster. Sadly it doesn't seem like it was deliberate.
I think the gimble jet is used for the slanted part of the course, it gives enough upward thrust for the car to evade the rough edges and the weight of the player is enough to make the car stay in the ground (idk if this is right or wrong i never played trailmakers before)
I've messed around with trying to figure out how it accounts for player weight and I can't tell for sure. If you jump onto a vehicle with soft suspension then you can see that the player has weight, because it affects the sus, but if you just enter the drivers seat, there isn't a noticeable effect. It seems that the player has weight on foot, but that it isn't taken into account when driving.
I think the problem with your cars disintegrating has to do with the way the course is made out of many small pieces of surface, which tends to act like a massive grinding wheel on your vehicle if it's too low.
How the gimbal Jets are working is due to them pushing up the back of the car it makes it so that the front wheels stay in contact with the ground allowing you to turn better and I assume that the gimbal Jets are set to just the right power to cause this but still be able gain speed from the back wheels

It seems that the player has weight on foot, but that it isn't taken into account when driving.
Nope. It's set to negative thrust and pulls the car down
There are a handful or reasons why under/oversteer happens, you can certainly fix it with suspension changes/weight balancing/ride height changes.
Just increase the steering strength to reduce that delay!
I think the problem with your cars disintegrating has to do with the way the course is made out of many small pieces of surface, which tends to act like a massive grinding wheel on your vehicle if it's too low.
you need to do a multi player monday and all pick a car and see who gets the best time :P
How the gimbal Jets are working is due to them pushing up the back of the car it makes it so that the front wheels stay in contact with the ground allowing you to turn better and I assume that the gimbal Jets are set to just the right power to cause this but still be able gain speed from the back wheels
The Nissan 24oz is actually a super good and sleek car in real life and the recreation in this game does NOT do it justice
Porsche 919 Hybrid
You should have a multiplayer monday with those cars
the nurburgring is a large 13 mile race track used to host several races most of them being the le mans. it resides in germany i think. i drilled this course alot in forza 4 so im no stranger to it either. just been awhile
le mans is in France 😂
@@definitelynotaweeb1111 im talking the 24 hour endurance series ya idiot. i used to compete in that in my 70 charger daytona trans AM resto mod(menroe racing screw super charged 1000HP Viper V10 AWD).
Let's GOOO, longest racetrack in the world, clocking in at atleast 24 kilometers at its longest
Certainly not the longest race though. Endurance races are up to 10,000 miles
@@THESLlCK endurance isnt a racetrack
@@THESLlCK Well, I did say racetrack, but damn, those are long
"Let's get away from some of the crazy stuff". Proceeds to bring out an F1/Indy car😂
i think the gimbbles are there to provide suspension, it dont looks like it has one, so the gimbbles might work like a counter for the colision with the ground, idk
