A firefighter came on my podcast and shared about why this clip is important for people like him… he said a lot of the guys at his fire department don’t wanna get humbled because it’s a very macho environment… he hoped clips like this will help get more men into BJJ training because a lot of people look up to the Mountain as an example of masculinity.

@Rexxar582 Most fights are over just that quick. In my jujitsu experience size...(significant size) does overcome skill. As I said, I'm not talking about bodybuilders.
Werdum vs Volkov is an example of top level bjj not been able to overcome the size. Obviously Thor/Martin's have no skill but their size/strength difference is vastly larger than that example.
Gordon wins sparring, but I think most people who have spent a few years training would favor Thor/Martin's in a fight. You have to remember sport bjj has strict rules that actually make it unrealistic. Skill diminishes when you get your head bounced off the floor.
None of this is an insult to Gordon. Unfortunately most people are believe absolutes, they skill always wins or instagram muscles overcome all.

It's really interesting how staying relaxed with intense burst is a skill in jiu - jitsu as it is in boxing and I imagine strong man competition as well.
It's amazing that Gordon could roll with Thor and Martins and not be the one that is out of breath afterward. The guy is a supreme ninja. Thor and Martins jumped right in and gave it a go at the very top level, WOW!!!!
Jiu - Jitsu and Wrestling are the ultimate arts of body chess. What appears to be a pure test of strength is actually a game of chess.
There is another secret skill that can't be developed and that is double joints. I've seen experienced jiu - jitsu practitioners that could not submit a novice because he had them.
The friendship you and Martins have with each other is the most impressive of all. The way you can compete so hard and be happy for each other's victories is a joy to behold.
