Love my 04 Blade. Even though I already have a 959 Panigale, my 04 Blade is still with me. Neeves is right, still a rocketship to this day, still fast and can still keep up with modern liter bikes minus the electronics.

I don't know the MCN budget, but if it's small - or even if it isn't - I appreciate MCN taking the time to focus on used bikes vs. the typical (American - of which I am one) "news show" of only focusing on the new. You've made me a subscriber. Keep up the good work (but don't forget to always try to improve your videographic and journalistic styles, it's a learning process).

a lot of people with bikes only ride them in good weather. in the uk nice sunny days are few and far between so its easy to find old very low mileage bikes like this.

This "buying guide" is really far off the mark, can definetly say that as an owner.
First issue you'll encounter in those bikes is the stator and regulator/rectifier dying on you. This is really inconvinient as 9 times out of 10 this will leave you stranded waiting for tow service. Also they are quite pricy to replace and they go bad often.
Second issue, is the cam chain tentioner. This can be a pain to replace because its in a really cramped position, cost is also close to 150 euros for an oem one. Wouldn't reccomend using a manual one, unless you can bear the constant rattling noise.
Third and most major one, is the inner nikasil lining on the cylinder walls going bad, in which case you are looking at an engine rebuild or getting another used one(good luck finding a decent one).
I know all bikes have weakpoints and some are more reliable than others, but you have to understand that those bikes are far from bulletproof.
I know I'm commenting on an old video, but this might help someone today.

Not all riders of these bikes are like me an you mate. Some people will literally buy these bikes just to pose in the summer. They have no real passion for them in the way that we do.
This is good because you can pick up bargains. I've just picked up a 2012 blade with a ful leo vince system, stage 3 chip, levers & screen for £7800. The bikes only done just over 2000 miles
Some people got more money than sense but that's good for people like me :0

The knocking might be one of three things.
The first knock is the engine turing over.
Then its the bike engaging first gear.
Finally it is the wind that makes a rumble.

    Hi great review.
I'll be looking for another track bike soon my 02 R1 is starting to fade quite a bit now I've also had a 01 gsxr 1000 as a track bike that was absolute beast so much more power then R1 brakes not as good as R1 though. I was wondering why do people track zx 10s r1s ect more then the fire blades when at the time the had the Moto Gp Technology ? I'm considering buying a older model CBR 1000 as my new track bike mainly because they seem to go a bit cheaper then the other 3 R1 ,gixxer,zx 10 and I'm not sure why ?? I'm tossing up between 04 05 zx 10 or 04 to 07 CBR 1000
    Cheers

@SicSeb the average in the USA is less than 1,100 miles a year, according to the MSF. Dentists get alot of vacation in their mid-50's to ride, but only use their Harleys to go starbucks to starbucks & to the leather store to play dress-up. Rest of the year they are in a luxus dreaming of looking tough

Hopefully they sorted this out on the newer versions (2008+). Do your research, all the items that this guy mentioned are trivial to buying any bike.

mine 2002 gsxr600 only had 1090miles on it when i bough it in augest last year for only 3K USD! excellect condition. all it need was a new battery, tune up and a wash
people are stupid, they dont think before buying a bike and end up let it collecting dust in their garage.
    that a waste....

Yeah but then you could make the argument that the 1198 and RSV4 are better, which they are, the RSV4 undoubtedly so and much more fun so its all relative really. And the Fireblade is a cracking bike, which unless you are valentino rossi you probably wont notice any diff b/w it and the other 3. The BMW S1000RR tho, thats another story entirely!

Why all the worry about whether or not a bike has been raced? If it is straight with no damange I don't see the problem. I would buy a bike like this to use on the track anyway, it suffers from underuse on the street & commuting. You wouldn't buy a damaged bike, regardless of it's history.
