its disappointing that both of these amazing people are no longer alive showing their great powers of entertainment! RIP both judy and mickey and God bless them both
He was 19 in this and would go on to have 8 wives starting with a one year marriage to Ava Gardner that only lasted a year. Look her up and then you have a head scratcher lol. He had to be really funny off camera too.
Cary Grant said, "In all of Hollywood, there is no actor more talented than Mickey Rooney!" This lil dude could sing, dance, act, be a comedian, and play just about every musical instrument while singing, dancing, and being a comedian! Best actor in all of humanity! He will be missed and deserved way more credit than he got!
YouzTube99 Awesome information!!! He was so talented.. Actors back then had to know how to do it all! He had very big over acting type expression because he started in silent movies. :) Judy had to learn to not be so strong/loud with her singing because she started on stage when they did not have microphones! Awesome to learn this stuff! Thank you!
I saw Singing in the Rain two years ago before Babes in Arms. Both movies are equally entertaining. Plus Mickey cannot be compared to Gene just because they both worked with Judy.
I've been reading about how she was always very self conscious about her looks, & how a big part of that was the movie executives saying negative things to her, & I find that so baffling, because she was so gorgeous.
RIP to two of the Depression era's biggest stars. Hope they dance and sing as sensationally as they did in this and other classic MGM musical moments in heaven this Christmas. Merry Christmas to Mr. Rooney and Ms. Garland
Just one of the many judy garland songs i use to play for my grandma when she had Alzheimer's for 13 years.. she actually sang and sounded like young judy garland and she kept up singing almost to the end!! Miss you grandma Dixie! Rock it out up there with Judy and Mickey and Jesus!!
Yes, she most definitely had an amazing voice, but, later on she didn't know how to care for it properly.. all that booze, dope and cigarettes ruined it much too soon. By the time she was 40 it was almost totally ruined.
+supernuke Funny story, I started playing this song in the mornings for my 3 y.o. with autism when he started going to preschool and he totally loves the song, it's so catchy! Two months into school, his teacher was absent on a Monday and all the screamers went off and messed up his whole week and in the mornings after he would say "mom, no school." This week, I started playing this song again and somewhere over the rainbow to wake him up in good spirits and his teacher just text me saying he's back to his old self :-) Thank God for Judy Garland! I just found out Mickey Rooney died, he lived a long time!! I was totally going to make a video letting him know my kid loves him but I didn't make it in time :-(
The actor playing the grump listening to Judy and Mickey had played Mickey's estranged father two years previously in "Thoroughbreds Don't Cry." That movie also featured Judy Garland, and was the first movie she and Mickey R. made together.
I love the notion in these old movies of how great talent like that of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland is just overlooked or even disparaged by other characters in the movie. 'Course it had to be like that, or there wouldn't have been a movie. Kudos as always to Garland and Rooney!

Mickey Rooney had a great younger life more than anyone could hope for; he starred in or had worked in supporting roles for more than 200 hundred films. As he got older in life he was less happy apparently, as he had eight wives during long life(he passed away today at the age of 93 years)However he had nine children and many grandchildren, added to his very prolific career. No one will ever forget his co-starring roles with the great singer of her day and beyond Ms. Judy Garland, or when he starred in the Hardy Boy movies. Mickey was an American icon much like Shirley Temple was in her movie career. When we thought of Mickey's movies we inevitably thought of Judy Garland too as they were together a very long time.Mickey sold war bonds during the Second World War with Germany and Japan. May you Rest In Peace for Eternity, Mickey. Mickey you were and are loved by millions in America and by millions around the world as well. See you in Heaven, my friend. Hope you and Judy will sing the song "Good Mornin" to those who remember you when your careers were just beginning to blossom in the late 1930's and early 1940's.
I loved watching Mucker Rooney and Judy Garland together. They had a great brother sister chemistry together. Both had sex appeal too...just not with each other but with other actors. I loved how they both moved and played off of each other's energy. Pure delight!

@Natan Godinho Agree, from an 18 year old. We can still love and celebrate old movies and art, sing jazz and dress beautifully. But alas, the outside world will always be different.
Both started in Vaudeville as toddlers, and that experience and talent holds true. 2 Great Talents and Performers, don't make them like this anymore....RIP😇😇
Judy sold “Singing In The Rain” 12 years before it was filmed. She also sang “Singing In The Rain” in Little Nelly Kelly in 1940. True story. Poor kid.
when mickey was reunited with judy and the gang, I hope they put a great show. I did get to see mickey w/ anne miller in "sugar babies" ! I felt lucky.
+Anya Naylor It was probably not really him playing. See comment two above yours. Person playing was probably some one who'd had 17 or more years practicing. Keep playing if you enjoy it. That's the important thing. :)
Mickey Rooney actually did play all of his own instruments is musicals. He can play so many things! And he had been practicing for practically his entire life, so...
Judy is such a pretty girl as well as having an incredible voice. Can't understand why MGM had a problem with her looks.
+ruth bashford It's because although she is gorgeous she wasn't beautiful in the 1930-40's sense of the word only pretty
You know why! Society likes a size 3
you are seeing her all made up with implants in nose and false teeth. she was pretty scary unmadeup.
What Jeff Johnson said was incredibly tacky and cruel, but half of it was true. You're seeing her "after" they had already started "altering" her.
MGM also made her get an abortion....
its disappointing that both of these amazing people are no longer alive showing their great powers of entertainment! RIP both judy and mickey and God bless them both
They would be over 100 years old.

Even notice how the young Mickey Rooney kinda looks like Ron Weasley?
Omg, right. But just a little

I guess back then they didn't know cigarettes did that to your voice. I can only imagine how great she would have sounded without all that crap.
When she was a kid she sang like a grown-up.

Good mornin', good mornin'
We've danced the whole night through
Good mornin', good mornin' to you
Good mornin', good mornin'
It's great to stay up late
Good mornin', good mornin' to you
When the band began to play
The stars was shinin' bright
Now, the milkman's on his way
It's too late to say goodnight
So, good mornin', good mornin'
Sunbeams will soon smile through
Good mornin', my darlin', to you
Here we are together
A couple of stand-uppers
Our day is done, breakfast time
Starts with our supper
Here we are together
Ah, but the best of friends must party
So, let me sing this party song
From the bottom of my hearty
Good mornin', it's a lovely mornin'
Good mornin', what a wonderful day
We danced the whole night through
Good mornin', good mornin' to you, how do you do?
I said, "Good mornin', see the sun is shinin'"
Good mornin', hear the birdies sing
It's great to stay up late
Good mornin', good mornin' to you
When the band began to play
The stars were shinin' bright
