@@thepeskyone - yeah, default bots cannot do more than one task, so if you're being strangled while they're avoiding a puddle of spit, they will wait for the spit to dissolve before rescuing you.
The bots in dragon's dogma can learn how to fight specific monsters by mimicking the player's actions. For example, when you fight an undead for the first time, they will use whatever skills they have, but once you use crushing damage, light and fire magic, they will adapt and improve, seeing that it is effective.
i wish they would also learn from me how to avoid monster attacks, but instead my pawns will just stand right in front of the damn thing and make no effort at all to avoid everything it does
One thing about the boys teleporting is that they will never teleport if a human player is looking in the direction of the bot. Think of it like their teleportation is similar rules to vs mode special spawning. No line of sight+distance=teleport
Sometimes I would even go as far as to say that the infected AI can be unfair. Especially when I'm trying (emphasis on trying) to speedrun campaigns on the mutation last man on earth, so I have no other bots to help me and there are no common infect. Just me and the special infected. As most already know, if the AI thinks you're doing too good, it bumps the intensity up a bit, which I have seen tanks spawn behind corners, and even when I'm taking a shortcut in the map, the AI spawns a charger right around the corner that I'm skipping to, and I get charged immediately without being given a second of warning. No charger sound, nothing. That has been a very common theme in my speedruns. Sometimes the special infected even break the rules in the game just to get me. There is a reason why l4d is one of the only games that can get me so worked up.
The problem is you compare L4D2 bots to Human players, when they aren't. You should compare them to walking sentry guns, them essentially being tools to success. You shouldn't be too harsh and just abandon them so recklessly, but if they'll make a fine distraction for a final saferoom dash then your safety is more important.
It would be good if they actually shoot anything in sight including the ones attacking my back but no. The bots are too stupid for that. So I wouldn't be calling them walking sentries.
Value deliberately make BOT not that good at killing infected similar to CS the Bot have the target scan range, reaction time speed and accuracy but unlike CS we can't set the bot to expert with godlike reaction time without moding.
Do a video about the commons. The worst enemy in whole L4D2. Be sure that when you about to land that lethal shot against an infected, a common will speedrun up to your back and start pouncing so the aim goes straigt up into the sky or down to the ground. Next second you're smoked, charged, jockied, boomed or whatever the director sends at you. And its not fair. One team get just a small amount of commons, the next team will be swarmed constantly so you out of bullets before you leave the saferoom.
It’s like the game knows I have low sensitivity. I swear most of the commons I fight are behind me and they’ll deliberately go behind me and attack there instead. Some of them spawn within a perfect timing as well. Chasing a special infected or being chased by a Tank will have a 100% guaranteed spawn of at least one infected even if you *_knew_* you just cleared the area. It doesn’t help the fact that their animations are so “realistically complex” that you cannot shove them out of the way (as in push them aside) because their animation will either play them hitting the wall over and over again. Dealing with armoured CÉDA police? Don’t bother. You can shove them infinitely against one spot on the wall and they’ll stay that way.
@@Pluvillion lol - man I hate those armored police myself shooting them in the front does jackshit, they just knock back and keep coming blocking your way and sight. Ever swing that melee on them in an endless loop against a wall? You can stand like that all day, he won't fucking die until you get view of his back and can kill them. Also I sometimes swear our team get 400 infected on a map, while other team just encounter 50. Regardless of boomer hits. Its a love hate relationship, but it feels damn good when you had a good day.
Definitely. And the way they stagnate you from moving when they hit (esp in groups) is a topic as well. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to simply move forward/away from a singular [common] zombie when it's attacking. You're basically stuck until you shove it or shoot it and by then, as you said, a special has got you. Unless you're surrounded, the character should be able to move.
The Tank in L4D1 is scarier than he is in 2. If he catches you first on expert you’re dead, if you set him on fire he gains a massive speed boost that makes him look like an angry charging grizzly. It’s better to not even light him on fire in the first game especially on expert.
He takes less damage from fire in L4D1 too if I remember right. It's been a long time since I played it but it's much less effective than it is in L4D2.
It was always a struggle when a rescue vehicle arrives, the bots don't even move and just keep fighting the horde. It's pretty much hard to fight with the l4d bots without an ai mod.
i hate when they stand *just* outside of the rescue vehicle range, just shooting. usually they get attacked by some special infected and in the worst case scenario, they do this long enough for the tank to catch up 😐 same thing happens with safe rooms, they’ll linger outside shooting everything in sight even when there’s specials or a horde instead of just running into the safe room when they have a clear shot 😅
A tip for countering jockeys: Tap the S key very quickly to slow down a bit before the jockey jumps. The jockey will jump too early, land right in front of you, and you can move in for the kill or shove. It works almost every time for me
I've played l4d2 long enough to understand the survivorbots algorithm and yea it's pretty dumb. It's not even balanced when infected bots are smarter than survivor bots in my opinion. I always had a thought that TLS made the special infected harder but the survivor bots remain the same like bruh.
Ik this is old but, where would the fun be if your bot team would be more capable than the average player. It would be more helpful but also damage the balance kinda
@Ramdom That's what makes it scary. It'd be boring other wise if the bots took care of everything or are too reliable. Like they said, bots being they way they are does help encourage to play with other people or friends. Ofc do we all have our rage moments when bots are too dumb to safe us.

Bots never got confused with me. They always tend to help the first player who gets down. Or they will help the player with the lowest hp when being down.

You are actually correct both on the Jockey and the Infected commons. Both are actually very smartly coded both to frustrate the player and sometimes to actually punish those who stray a little bit away from their team-mates. From my observation, the infected has like a rule they follow. 1. they prioritize targeting players who advanced far enough from others. Doesnt matter if that common is sitting next to a lagging player, they'll home in to that guy who is a step ahead. 2. they will always avoid the spot where your crosshair is. Which of course leads to them going around and even targeting your back. 3. they will use themselves to cover specials. this is more noticeable when it comes to jockeys and Smokers too.
As of these days, the bots are useless when it comes to pushing away the zombies around them. Even with L4Bots + L4TLS, and Improved A.I. (Advanced), they can't do a damn thing to protect themselves from a single ci.
It’s hardcoded sadly. Even if you were to give them inhuman aiming (Merciless Survivor Bots), they’ll prioritize using their pistols and then shoving when something is close. They’re also hardcoded to shove whoever’s on you instead of shooting them. They _will_ try to shoot if they’re relatively far away, but upon approaching they’ll cease fire and shove instead. It’s the reason why giving them the ability of using a melee weapon is a bad thing because even if you specifically set its convar to 0, they will approach an infected instead of progressing forward. This makes them lag behind if you’re not paying well attention.
The Hunters are the masters of the scratch. Everytime they miss a pounce, the instant they do, they've already scratched my ass to kingdom come. Every. Single. Time. All in less than one frame. The Jockey's movement are so erratic, especially the "jump back" maneuver. It makes me cringe and jerk whenever I hear em giggle. With their horrific 320 hp, short and arched posture, coupled with the jump back, I swear they are as healthy as a full blown charger. Hitting a headshot on them is harder than winning the lottery.
I'm sure this has already been said, but I'll just add it here for good measure. The dev commentary in one of the games states that they didn't want the survivor bot AI to be *too* good so you would prefer to play with actual people as the game was intended to be enjoyed.
the first one is quite wrong: they can still heal you up if you have medkit etc. and they will stop healing as soon as you equipped your medkit or any healing items in your hand. it's like going IDLE to stop players healing you
I swear the one thing the friendly A.I. bots are good at (at least sometimes) is sniping down special infected before you even know the SI were there. So they could actually protect you as long as you haven't been captured yet.
Haven't watched the vid yet but I just want everyone to know that there was this one time where I was waiting for the elevator in No Mercy and every bot teleported into the shaft and died, atleast it got me that achievement that requires getting 3 people from 1 rescue closet
I just got this on my recommended after playing L4D2 at my friends and I want to confirm that the infected A.I. is STUPID op. I swear whenever a jokey was around, he would avoid literally EVERYONE in his way just to ride me (pause) and he would show up at the most inconvenient times i swear.
Btw for those that are a bit confused...all this stuff happens on advanced and expert. In east and normal modes, the AIs are programmed to wait a few seconds before using their attacks. But yeah you're better off playing solo
The scarier thing about the tank is that if you think you can just slip past him he will full on just moon walk his way over to you and still hit you while looking the other direction. So the safest way to get around the tank without even firing a shot is to literally run a Tron line to mess up the angle and go around the tank. Once you get a certain angle pass the tank, he will chase you like normal.
I still remember one time I was just playing the Four Swordsmen mutation on my own for fun and I had a moment in the 2nd chapter of Dead Center where I got grabbed by a Smoker that was on the grocery store roof and it led to me hanging just slightly off the ground while against the wall. All three bots ran over to save me, just to stop and stare at me from mere inches away as the Smoker slowly killed me.
I like how almost half of this is either on a custom map, or a custom mod is being used, sure i get it the bots aren't up to par, but most of this sounds like a troll.
I got a mod that improves the AI. Like they can defib you, they will know when to leave another survivor behind, and they know how to continue without you. Super good.
My favourite AI moment is when a Smoker grabs me with his tendril through a wall, the floor, a cloud of smoke, my teammate, and some boxes all while he's not got line of site, isn't looking in my direction, doesn't make his telegraph noise, while fortnite dancing and his shoes are untied
Bro I was dying when he said the final boss was the jockey and was like nah he isn't that bad but then you showed the DOUBLE WHAMMY and I had Vietnam flashbacks that I had suppressed in my memories and couldn't control my laughter.
Yeah, alway suspect that charger in campaign has some kind of resistance since it's literally take 4 shot when it's charging instead of 2 shotgun shot to kill it normally.
Yeah iirc AI chargers in campaign take 66% less damage while charging which makes it impossible to one shot them with a well-placed melee attack. I only know sourcemod plugins that fix it but I'm not sure if anyone ported it to workshop yet.
Also sometimes the hunter hides in corners and in bends so they can get the jump on you when you dont expect it, common infected also run in zigzags so you cant hit them when they arent in hordes i think, they even sometimes stop and move sideways so when you shoot you will miss(when they arent in hordes) they even sometimes wait untill theres a swarm on you, thats what i experienced, idk if this is the same for everyone.
:survivor and tank are equal in speed, tank can overrun you by run in specific angle. They can always predict you and throw a rock directly at you me:run away from tank in tankplayground for literally 10 mins and successful rescued
9:54 hunters are terrifying, because when you hear that summon youre always on edge untill you can confirm you filled him with 15 pounds of bullets and the ai Tries to get the drop on you in any way, hiding everywhere being in the distance Whatever it can do to make sure it gets you, usually huntersll get you and sometimes you or a teammate shoots them first or rarely theyll miss a leap, but Jockeys, jockeys just run towards you and Somehow get you no matter what, i think i have stopped a jockey before it can ride me less than 6 times even worse is despite how they can practically teleport to you from like 3 feet away in singleplayer, in versus its like trying to throw a feather at someone but Youre the feather, you have to be pixel perfect to get on the survivor and in 99% of cases you just get killed in 3 seconds before you can even pounce
They even walk in front of you and then get mad that they were accidentally shot. They even have to walk closer when an enemy dragged the player away just so they can shoot the zombie. The worst part is the years have passed, yet the developers never even bothered upgrading the AIs.
6:00 I know why they do this. In Left 4 Dead 1, there's an achievement for completing a campaign with no friendly fire. There's very little doubt that the team that worked on the game deliberately coded this behavior in just so that achievement can be harder to get and this bit of their AI got carried over into Left 4 Dead 2.
While i agree with you on the Bots being awful...5:49, c'mon man you're standing in front of teammates in the middle of a hallway, granted they can move to different angles to not keep shooting you but that's still on you for that happening.
The jockey is the most hardest thing to counter alone. shoving isn't enough and you have to constantly shove him because a little frame will let him be able to get you. Also shoved special infected AI are still able to scratch you while stumbling. Also human AI in some maps in versus like swamp fever where you're trying to hide as a smoker/spitter to only get sniped perfectly by a bot is dumb.
I kinda like the npcs in l4d2. Because one: If you install Advanced AI mod, they will get twice as smart, but they're still pretty smart without it. And two: *I always have people to murder*
The four swordsmen mutation just showcases how terrible the bots can be lol. Got pinned, and then killed, by a hunter on the first part of dead center and the bots didn't even react because I was on one of the balconies and they were in the room
Same but getting smoked and slightly pulled off the ground. They were perfectly in range to melee me down. But also when a crescendo event ends at a safe room, it's hell to get them to stay inside long enough to close the door because they see engaging infected, must kill, have to approach to do that. Similar issues with chainsaw massacre.
I actually have a story to tell about the jockey ai. On the last stand last man on earth I heard a jockey laughing but was looking all around for him, while a tank was running to me. As soon as I turn around I see the jockey who was *standing behind me laughing for over 25 seconds.*

I'm glad you made this video since it shows most of my frustrations with the bots lol Literally the ONLY good thing I can say about bots is that when they revive you, the revive bar won't get reset if you get hit by a infected. Which doesn't count for player revives. Although if you have 3 players, 1 bot, its fun to either babysit the bot or root for them when your teammmates mess up lol.
worst part about bots is when they get stuck behind (aspecially when there's a 'run to the saferoom!' part). they're like 'nah we're good here, just gonna be here for awhile'. sometimes they even get stuck so far away that i cannot complete the map, cause they won't come to the saferoom at all. then the classic is ofcourse.. when a bot stand right infront you

This shit is the reason why I resorted to using sourcemod. Lots of plugins in there are very useful from seeing your legs, increasing tickrate, and even making it so the bots actually *_flee_* when there’s a Tank.
Bots when you are being strangled: I sleep
Bots when they meet a tank: Buddy!
For example, when you fight an undead for the first time, they will use whatever skills they have, but once you use crushing damage, light and fire magic, they will adapt and improve, seeing that it is effective.
i wish they would also learn from me how to avoid monster attacks, but instead my pawns will just stand right in front of the damn thing and make no effort at all to avoid everything it does
I love how they shoot the hunter instead of pushing the hunter out and the same thing as the jockey
@Nova Fam exactly
When it comes to that mutation, i stock up on mods that severely buff damage with weapons to kill everything in seconds, tanks included!
The bots are so bad that people have been making workshop items to improve them
The problem is you compare L4D2 bots to Human players, when they aren't. You should compare them to walking sentry guns, them essentially being tools to success. You shouldn't be too harsh and just abandon them so recklessly, but if they'll make a fine distraction for a final saferoom dash then your safety is more important.
They still like watching me dying from a Smoker smh
@@tgnm9615 Literally smoker grabbing you for like 30 seconds and the bot just looking at you in the eyes while you die.
It would be good if they actually shoot anything in sight including the ones attacking my back but no. The bots are too stupid for that. So I wouldn't be calling them walking sentries.
@@smolpp1708 Yeah well minus the aimbot and multiply the shooting your ass. Just treat them like expendable robots really.

When it's easier to avoid damage from Hitscanner enemies than melee enemies
Perhaps...
@@nascoz3884 I have faith in you, my colleage.

@@im_azraelle Right? I don't know why valve didn't just fix the ai issues back then. Thank god for mods lmao
A tip for countering jockeys: Tap the S key very quickly to slow down a bit before the jockey jumps. The jockey will jump too early, land right in front of you, and you can move in for the kill or shove. It works almost every time for me
Just don't get too close when you shove him ;)
4:37 this was both the most relatable and the funniest shit in this entire video, hands down
I've played l4d2 long enough to understand the survivorbots algorithm and yea it's pretty dumb.

Why not online? Even terrible teammates are better than the bots
@@itsdabeesyeah say that when you’re incapped , surrounded by a horde and have just the single basic pistol

Always play tank run here. I always say the same "they recycled the enemy IA from cs 1.6 for the tanks". It´s just insane how they almost seem more competent than real life humans.
As someone who never could buy the game but played it for years, I've suffered playing with bots forever, and for the first time I feel like someone understands all my pain
I've noticed that the bots will always use a med kit at the start of each chapter regardless of what their health is
Not always. Only if their health is below 80%.
@BrandonFlint-ro2ns I guess I never had their health stay high enough for them to not heal. Still stupid either way.
@@vinnyandlin8510 I'm actually making a correction. They heal at below 75 HP not 80 I found this out when playing today. It's still dumb though especially since I never pop a health kit unless there's an extra or I've been downed once.
5:51 you're supposed to crouch to let your teammates shoot over you. The game tells you this
2:12 they just teleport when you are not looking at them, even when out of your sight ( looking at their direction even when theres a wall in the way) and ofc the other 2 factors mentioned for them to teleport
The jockey bots have to be the worse things on the planet, reminds of a meme I saw where it was a picture of all the special infected with a caption under each of them and the jockeys caption was just "fuck you" most relatable shit ever

Bots never got confused with me. They always tend to help the first player who gets down. Or they will help the player with the lowest hp when being down.
1:55 Bots actually won’t teleport if you are looking at them, so if you are trying to force a bot to teleport to you because they can’t path find to you, you need to turn your screen elsewhere
i found that the special infected that pin you also know when to isolate you from your team in spots where the rest of your team cant get back to.
It should honestly be an achievement to beat a campaign on the normal difficulty on singleplayer especially if they all survive holy hell.
I heal them more than they do themselves.
Get confused by hordes when I was being dragged by a smoker into spitter spit while delivering cola.
It says enough about bots that they have the ability to shoot through you without damaging you rather than just not shooting you at all.
As a 12yr lfd vet this is all valid information
I'm screenshotting this for my UA-cam resume
@@nascoz3884 u can use me for a reference to

So it's canon that being infected actually makes you smarter.
I'm sure this has already been said, but I'll just add it here for good measure. The dev commentary in one of the games states that they didn't want the survivor bot AI to be *too* good so you would prefer to play with actual people as the game was intended to be enjoyed.
they are good enough to beat realism expert even tho u have to baby sit then alot so thats enough.
Tips:
They will only heal you if you have no healing items.
They cannot start Panic Events or Crescendos.
the first one is quite wrong: they can still heal you up if you have medkit etc. and they will stop healing as soon as you equipped your medkit or any healing items in your hand. it's like going IDLE to stop players healing you
@@fishtak72 yes, i am aware. i was stupid when i wrote this comment
I swear the one thing the friendly A.I. bots are good at (at least sometimes) is sniping down special infected before you even know the SI were there. So they could actually protect you as long as you haven't been captured yet.
6:22 The bot infomercial was my favorite part about this lol
True, on lower difficulties the special infected AI does not react as fast as in Advanced/Expert, so the survivor bots can actually react on time too.
They wanted you to die lmao
What's really weird is that I've never experienced this stuff before ever since I started playing the game recently?
This video talks about the vanilla bots and Left 4 Bots mod.
You have the most entertaining commentary I have ever seen in this game
Many disagree
I think the bots love me or something. Because i have like none of these problems. They like never take my stuff and rarely get in my way.
I like how almost half of this is either on a custom map, or a custom mod is being used, sure i get it the bots aren't up to par, but most of this sounds like a troll.
Yeah, use the main campaigns to do it. Since custom maps will always be messed with ai mapping wise.
@@shcdemolisher Bots in normal campaigns are shit too, try to play versus with bots in your side is literal nightmare.

I got a mod that improves the AI. Like they can defib you, they will know when to leave another survivor behind, and they know how to continue without you. Super good.
My favourite AI moment is when a Smoker grabs me with his tendril through a wall, the floor, a cloud of smoke, my teammate, and some boxes all while he's not got line of site, isn't looking in my direction, doesn't make his telegraph noise, while fortnite dancing and his shoes are untied

veteran/expert bots in versus are pretty scary
Imagine an AI IRL having trouble path finding and ends up walking through a high floor window.

Yeah, alway suspect that charger in campaign has some kind of resistance since it's literally take 4 shot when it's charging instead of 2 shotgun shot to kill it normally.
I didn't know this either up until I made this video
They can always predict you and throw a rock directly at you

9:54 hunters are terrifying, because when you hear that summon youre always on edge untill you can confirm you filled him with 15 pounds of bullets and the ai Tries to get the drop on you in any way, hiding everywhere being in the distance Whatever it can do to make sure it gets you, usually huntersll get you and sometimes you or a teammate shoots them first or rarely theyll miss a leap, but Jockeys, jockeys just run towards you and Somehow get you no matter what, i think i have stopped a jockey before it can ride me less than 6 times
even worse is despite how they can practically teleport to you from like 3 feet away in singleplayer, in versus its like trying to throw a feather at someone but Youre the feather, you have to be pixel perfect to get on the survivor and in 99% of cases you just get killed in 3 seconds before you can even pounce

They even walk in front of you and then get mad that they were accidentally shot. They even have to walk closer when an enemy dragged the player away just so they can shoot the zombie. The worst part is the years have passed, yet the developers never even bothered upgrading the AIs.
Yall struggle with bots while im over here being worse than a bot. Or im just lucky and the bots i get are loyal and are smarter 😭
i'm so glad someone captured the jockeybot's true essence. jockeybot can glide and change direction mid-air lil a nimble feather.
At least they are better than Back4Blood AI. OMFG AI Jim before the new patch was a death sentence and made me back out and restart the game
The part about healing items were so fucking accurate man. This shit is too good.
The fact that the bots in L4d1 lets u behind rushing to the next saferoom while in l4d2 they "stay" with u all the time.

Literally the ONLY good thing I can say about bots is that when they revive you, the revive bar won't get reset if you get hit by a infected. Which doesn't count for player revives.
Although if you have 3 players, 1 bot, its fun to either babysit the bot or root for them when your teammmates mess up lol.

Fun fact if you are being healed by a bot pull out pills, adrenaline, a medkit or a defib and they stop
worst part about bots is when they get stuck behind (aspecially when there's a 'run to the saferoom!' part). they're like 'nah we're good here, just gonna be here for awhile'. sometimes they even get stuck so far away that i cannot complete the map, cause they won't come to the saferoom at all. then the classic is ofcourse.. when a bot stand right infront you
