Nice overview and not an infomercial! Side note about Kim Thayall’s character-back in the 90s he did an interview with some guitar magazine. Interviewer asked him some semi-loaded question about what he thought of some current pop-star or maybe it was about the boy bands that were current. Interviewer was clearly assuming he’d shit on them etc Kim was like: I think they are fine. They make music for 12-year old girls. I’m not the audience for that music, so I have no problem with it. I don’t understand people who are against it- why can’t 12-year old girls enjoy what they enjoy? I was a young teenager at the time (go Gen X!) and that really opened my dumb eyes to not judging people etc etc etc
I actually like the offset design a Lil' more than the Gibson or Epiphone designs. I also like the little retro touches, bound neck, the Guild branding and the unusual headstock. The only thing I see that might be an issue down the road would be the cool angled tailpiece makes a Bigsby trem..or Any trem would be difficult to add cleanly.
IMO these are great guitars for the money. I bought a white one that was going to be discontinued when the kim thayil version and the other new versions came out and it's one of my favorite guitars for under 1k. I'm just a bedroom/basement noodler but so far I haven't had an urge to change/upgrade anything on it. 😎
I picked up one recently in Canyon Dusk and I really like the guitar. Only thing that I did to make it better for me is I used a Scotch Brite pad to scuff up the neck a little so that it feels smooth. I don't specifically fault Guild for that though because lots of guitar manufacturers make glossy necks that feel a bit sticky when they are new. Also, I've been interested in eventually trying out Alnico 2 pickups, but so far I've been really happy with the HB-2+ pickups (Alnico 5) and I might end up keeping them. Very solid guitar for the price and fun to play.
I have one but it had some major tuning issues out the box so I upgraded the tuners, bridge and nut and now it's honestly one of my best guitar and I have like 30+ guitars ranging from $700-$2000's.
Cool review, good to see someone going over the quality control. I believe Guild are now owned by Yamaha who normally are very good on that front. I like that you get rosewood too which is rare to see on cheaper models! Are you still happy with it since this video?

Thats rough man, the retro cog tuners are beautiful. Hopefully this isnt a reality for every guitar i have one on the way🤦🏻
