It definitely was way ahead of its time. I love the fact that I grew up playing it for years and then found out its liked by so many others. This was my most played Spider-Man game other than Ultimate and Web of Shadows
And to think that these people made one of the most iconic Spider-Man games of all time. They really nailed the look (for the time admittedly, the graphics doesn’t age as well), and feel of being Spider-Man… and even now the game is just a joy to play.
When I was a kid in the 2000s I would watch this on Disc 2 of the Spider-Man 2 DVD, one of the discs had the E3 2004 trailer for the game on it as well so I liked watching that too. Both of these got me hyped to play the game, so a few months later, I started playing the game, and this game was really impressive for its' time. I think even nowadays if you can go in with an open mind and play the game as if its' 2004 you'll be able to see how revolutionary it was. The graphics looked realistic at the time, although the graphics have definitely aged. Despite the dated graphics though, the actual design of the city is still amazing to this day, it felt like the closest depiction to IRL NYC until Spider-Man PS4 came out. Just overall, the fact that they were able to make an Open World NYC with Spider-Man and have webs actually attach to buildings back in 2004 was very impressive. Them getting this right the first time around really makes the TASM 1 and 2 games inexcusable, you can definitely tell that those games were rushed so they wouldn't miss the release date of the movies. Spider-Man 2 was basically the first real Open World game that wasn't a GTA game, so it paved the way for other non-open world GTA games, and the impact of Spider-Man 2 is still felt in other super hero games to this day since the Arkham games and Spider-Man PS4 took inspiration from Spider-Man 2. Even the plot line of this game was pretty good, it was cool to re-enact the battles against Doc Ock, and even the stuff that they added on the side like Black Cat and Mysterio were pretty cool as well. I fully admit that even in terms of gameplay, this game is definitely dated now, not only because of the Insomniac Spider-Man games, but I think even back in the day there were better Spider-Man games than Spider-Man 2, those being Ultimate Spider-Man and Web Of Shadows, but I can still enjoy the game for what it is and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Snikker Snakker Basically what happened is, they more so wanted to profit off the game this time around rather than giving a polished experience. Treyarch was developing Call of Duty WAW that year so they handed the assets to basically a smaller, less experienced team and told them “have this done in time for the film’s release”.
A developer who worked on Spider-Man 1 and 2 said the newer team members that were brought on to Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 wanted to simplify the swinging so it would be easier and take less time to hone.
Most of the team who worked on Spider-Man 2 didn’t work on Spider-Man 3 and the ones who were brought over didn’t really have any creative say so for anything
I remember when my mum bought me this when I was just a little kid and now at the age of 25 I still play this on an old school console. Still one of my favourites! 🕷
I don't have any nostalgia for this game, but I played recently and I love it, the swinging awesome, the combat is pretty fun, the only bad thing is the camera, but I guess a lot of old games have this problem. It would be really cool to see a remaster of this game.
This was one of my favorite Spider-Man games ever, I still have it on PS2 since I was 11 years old and still play it the graphic design looked cool and the costume as well.
So mesmerising even after all this time. I think it has to do with the soundtrack used for this documemtary. It has this larger than life anticipation feeling the documentary captured well. Has anyone ever tracked down what genre of music it's called? I haven't got a clue.
I've never had that happen in the released game nor have I noticed that until now, to me though it just looks like the camera kind of got it at a wonky angle
Ye you can, i actually played it again on my 360 the other day since i still have 1, 2 and 3 and you can do that, as well you can web under the helicopter and just be there while it fly around the city
@@NathanCAY1010 Must be different on the 360 for some strange reason then. I have this game on GameCube and PS2 and neither of them have that ability, to my knowledge.
I bought this game again recently all bc I missed it, and I'm playin tf out of it, learning things I never knew like how theres evil dead references and how bruce Campbell aka ash Williams is the narrator to the easter eggs I wont spoil to the large amount of challenges and seamless gameplay, its phenomenal Plays way better than any other spiderman game imo
I hope I'm not bullied by this remark but to me THIS IS the quintessential Spiderman game. The first time you could literally go anywhere, do anything as Spiderman. I spent hours not even doing the campaign but just swinging around exploring it was that fun. And while it does follow the movie to an extent it tells it's own original bad*** story with 4 of his best villains from the comics So no disrespect to the PS4 game, but S2 will always be my favorite
This might sound cheesy, but playing this game as a kid was unprecedented. No other game made me feel like a superhero than this one did.
Oh man, I feel you to this day Spider-Man 2 is probably one of my favorite open world games, probably one of my favorite superhero games for sure
Not cheesy at all
It definitely was way ahead of its time. I love the fact that I grew up playing it for years and then found out its liked by so many others. This was my most played Spider-Man game other than Ultimate and Web of Shadows
I felt the exact same way, and that's why as an adult I'm still playing it because it brings that kid back out of you
Its not cheesy at all spiderman the movie game made me feel like a true superhero
This is the most Legendary game of all time.
So these are the men responsible for hours of immense joe and love for one of if not the best game ever made in my opinion, all I can say is thankyou

Used to do the exact same thing 🙏
Correction: Making of The best Spider-Man game.
Venom I see you and She-Venom everywhere
Thank god for these guys
Best Spider-Man game HANDS DOWN
This was literally Spider-Man PS4 for the early 2000s
It's better than Spider-man PS4 (Gameplay wise, only thing insomniacs spider-man has over this game is the story)
When Treyarch made ground breaking Spider-Man games instead of dime-a-dozen Call of Duty games.
I think that 1:18 guy is Jamie Fristrom, the guy who first started making the new (back then) swinging mechanic for spider-man
They nailed it with this game, i just wonder how they messed up spider man's 3 swinging.

The webswing for this game was all over the place tbh

back when 2 years of game development was enough. now we have bad games that took half a decade and are filled with glitches.
So at 2:26 it shows Spidey web-zipping then regrab the web line. Is it actually possible to do that? I've never been able to do that myself
I've never had that happen in the released game nor have I noticed that until now, to me though it just looks like the camera kind of got it at a wonky angle

Bruce Campbell was the narrator in the SM 2002 movie game too for the tutorial and the SM3 game not really new info.
