Olde Channel, Thanks indeed for your efforts in putting together this compilation. Reviving many great memories of football coverage-much of which you provide for us now on your excellent channel. Thanks and compliments to you!
This is marvellous....some stuff I haven't heard before...the HTV "Soccer Special" one at 4:58 was definitely used for ATV's comedy "The Squirrels"....(and possibly "Extra Time",ATV's Friday night footie preview show?)....I hope you'll be able to find the Central "Star Soccer" intro from 1981 to 1983 one day....!
6:54 Shoot! Presented in the 70s and early 80s by George Taylor. How I wish some full episodes of this existed on UA-cam. Not the most modern or cutting edge of Football shows…but it was ours! George sadly died in 2020 aged 94.
Ahhh, the good old days when league football was played by British players, (never faking injuries and rolling around as though been shot), who played for the love of the game not the money, and played on snow covered pitches and farmers fields and still entertained us. How sad football has become.
Most of the HTV games in the 1981-83 period were mostly Wales only especially with Swansea in Division 1 and some with Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and Swindon were West only if no Welsh team were opponents Though ATV/Central would cover Swindon occasionally
Presumably Border could show matches from both the English and Scottish Leagues as their region straddled the England/Scotland border. The only English league team in their region throughout most of their time on air would have been Carlisle United.
Most excellent and quaint, long before globalisation under Sky Sports
Star Soccer used to be on ATV London before London Weekend Television took over the weekend London ITV region from them in July 1968.
Excellent. Stuff never seen before. Really enjoy your channel.

Some great regional identity especially ATV,Yorkshire TV and TVS.
I loved The Big Match in my region. Was always a good watch with Brian Moore. I did not realise there was so much regional variation.

Christ.
0:51 - the music for this one was used by Benny Hill for the intro in his 'Tommy Tupper in Tupper-Time' sketch.
And also for all of ITV's networked football coverage until 1975. Johnny Dankworth was the composer.
@@YeOldeFootballChannel indeed...."Fanfare In Beat" wasn't it?
@@anthonybailey1966 Yep!
Fond memories - Sear Soccer at 215 on Sunday afternoons. The inimitable Hugh Johns as commentator.
Brilliant when football was football and the game was full of great players.
Have you the two themes Match of the Week used in the 70’s?
Afarid not... have you? That would be nice

Star soccer❤
What tv highlights did those living in the Border TV or Westward/TSW regions get?

Similar to this channel, where has heavy roller gone?
HTV region was the absolute pits. Rarely covered games and when they did it was a dull laboured presentation.
bloody awful music lol,,,good presentation though
