San Francisco's Chinese New Year Parade has unique American history

In its long history in the Bay Area, the Chinese New Year Parade has been a place for tradition, for celebration and family. The parade for decades has attracted large crowds, going back to 1953, the first year it was open to the public.

My kids were on the parade team that represented their school when they were younger. It was a very special and exciting experience for them and for the parents who designed and made/bought the costumes and props.

As full blood Native American ...i am happy to see the decentdants of all immigrants prosper.....our parades and fairs happen more towards the fall ...come on out to any Reservation in Arizona around the fall...find you one....we got most in America. ..Biggest being mine...Dine' (navajo) Nation. 👍🏾👍🏾

I'm surprised that they haven't given in to being PC and changed it to "Lunar New Year".

Because it's really not Lunar New Year to Chinese people. Lunar New Year is the general term to describe all the New Years celebrated in Asian countries. Sometimes the dates don't fall on the same time and traditions are different as well. Also, the origin of New Years, plus the Tale of the Zodiac comes from China but I guess as people immigrate outwards through history it changes.
