Just found this video and really thought I was going to need to get under my car. However, you said “once it’s in reverse it’s good” so what I did was held up on cable and moved shifter to reverse. It locked it into position without needing to get under my car!
Thanks Adrian! After watching this, I notice the cable is in the correct position if you have the shifter in reverse. So I just pulled the inner cable against the outer cable and I was able to select reverse. Now the cable is in a position where I can re-insert the pin. This avoided having to jack up the car, etc. I hope this helps everyone!
Thanks for making this, everybody else's videos show them holding the cable and in the next cut it's just magically inside already. They don't want people to see all they struggled to get it in if they didn't know about this.
Dude you are a life saver! Your the only guy with a video like this! It took me a while to find that spot under my 2015 STI but it was the same process! Thanks so much man! ❤️
You just saved me from mild panic attack, i'd already put my new collar on but took it back off to grease it and in my haste I didn' t put it in reverse first. Thanks dude.
Easier way is to use some string or fishing line, loop it through the pin hole of the cable end then snake it up through the shifer and pull it up. Then slip on the spring and collar. Then use a small diameter punch to secure the cable in place, pull out the string or fishing line and shift to reverse which will keep it in place to reinstall the pin.
Thanks for this video man. All other videos skips this step and just jumps to the final installation. My cable snapped because it was rubbing on the driveshaft. I hated dealing with the installation in the past. This will be a major help for me man.
Thanks bro u a life saver lol i was freaking out i thought cobb sold me the wrong size 🤣🤣🤣you are the only person i seen that show wat to do no video cuts.
Okay, so you can actually pull the cable and put the car in reverse. Then slide the shifter over the cable. you dont even need to get under the car if you use the cobb shifter and use this method!
I'm literally in the middle of doing this. I even took the precautions not to drop the cable ahead of time (well, didn't clamp it but kept it in reverse) and it still dropped. Guess I was a little too anxious but I'm about to jack the car up and this looks fairly straightforward. I should have known a little mod to stop the rattle would end up with the car on jacks lol. Thanks for the helpful support!
Saved my butt tonight! Now I can get sleep before work. Don't think about any other option. Jack up your car and get on this and you'll be done in no time!
Thanks brother...both vids helped me. I'm heading to the garage to push my cable up right now. All this headache for a carbon shift surround. Lol. Oh this life we live/love. Thank you. #subiefam #carlife
nylon thread through hole out top with pair of pliers to pull it while using a smaller pin to hold it when in place before putting pin through . simple dont even have to get under car.
This information is.. sort of correct. You need to put the vehicle in reverse before you put the pin up. The way he forced it into reverse.. woah. You can also use a pick tool to pry up that pin. You do not need to go under the vehicle. 1. Put in reverse. 2. Lift pin, it will stay up. 3. Finish putting everything back together.
It's much easier if you take it all the way out pull up on it and put it in reverse then insert the cable back in and put you lockout on and whatever. No need to go under your car at all
The lockout makes it so you can't put the vehicle in reverse unless you pull the lock up. If you lose tension then you won't be able to move the lockout enough to put the trans in reverse
There is a MUCH simpler way. Just pull on the reverse lockout cable from inside the car, shift into reverse, and the cable will lock so that it won't retract. Then feed it back into the shifter and put your screw driver back through it.
@@AdrianMorse42069 No, I'm talking after your cable has slipped out. If you accidently shift out of reverse and lose your cable, pull the cable out the bottom of the shifter column, pull on the cable so you can shift back into reverse, shift into reverse and the cable will lock while it's extended and it can't retract again since you're now in reverse. Then just feed it back through the shifter column and put your screw driver back through.
I mean thats one way to do it but essentially all youre doing is retracting the cable from the other end, our cars are too low to be climbing under or jacking up bro, if you lose reverse, pull the cable completely out from under the shifter and pull the cable so you can put it in reverse, i found your video looking for the cable routing after installing solid shifter linkages but you should update this so youre not purposely wasting peoples time and putting them in a potentially dangerous situation having to crawl under their car sitting on 2x4s.

Same here.
Best intro. "so you got excited..." Exactly what happened. Thanks for the help.
You just saved me a massive tow bill. Thank you for this video

That's one of the biggest reasons there are no how-to videos on UA-cam for STI's and WRX's...... Because EGO
After watching a few short shifter install vids and not quite understanding how to complete this step u made it perfectly clear. Thanks.
I'm glad I could help!

I thought the exact same thing lol

Update. I was able to get it by bending safety wire into a hook and feed through. But jack were next if that didn't work. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this video... it save so much headaches just imagining how to hold the pin there

Nice video. Just picked up some bushings from GNP and looking to get the short shifter. See you have a video on that, so I'll head over there!
Thanks for the video !!
Gonna install my Kartboy short throw shifter, and Cobb reverse lockout .
Making it look too easy . Thanks G
Thank you for making this video!

Have same problem with my Subaru WRX STI 2020
This was so helpful thank you
So basically you can hold that with a zip tie ? That the spring you dont want it to fall right when in installing a new release lockout ?
Gracias por tu vídeo , no encontraba la manera adecuada de instalarlo
Thank you brotha! Cheers

champion, thank you
THANK YOU!
So I aligned the lever but my cable is still short?
Does the reverse lock help the vechine go in reverse? If lose of tension in cable car won't go in reverse

Yes that is how you do it when you remember to shift into reverse first

Could you not use a magnet ?
Maybe! I never tried that but it could be an easier way for sure
Thanks ....
Bro my car shakes past 80 mph on 6th and the last owner told me it’s rubbing on the driveshaft
