The actor's 2018 movie The Mule used the song and it hit hard, but maybe not as hard as it hit when Keith took to the stage to sing the song on Thursday night (Sept. 28).
With teary eyes and a noticeable shake, Keith worked through a ballad he says he chose because it inspires those who've been touched by his cancer journey.

Being a cancer survivor it's not easy but I am glad to see TK is pushing forward as much as possible. It definitely wears one down. Hope he overcomes the adversity. Keep fighting Big Dawg. God bless him.

It's great to hear about people who have fought the big C and win. I lost my son to osteo sarcoma 16 years ago. Following that my mom died of pancreatic cancer and my sister died from an aggressive form of breast cancer. So I hope Toby Keith will continue to be a survivor and keep giving us great country music. God bless him and his family.

I’ve been a Toby Keith fan since he first came on the scene. I live all his music as it is fun inspiring and patriotic . I’ve seen Toby many time live but the most memorable experience was when he came to Afghanistan and paid us a visit. We were in a combat zone with imminent danger but that never stopped Toby . He played all the favorites and boosted our moral more than I can say. Not only did he make the trip once but several times and he was there with us in spirit even long after his visit . So for that Toby if your reading this we thank you . I spoke for all us veterans we are fighting with you and praying God doesn’t let that Old Man In. This country needs you as you are a patriot . Get well soon my friend and thank you for everything you did for us over there!🙏🇺🇸💪

I was in tears watching this video I have buried two husbands with Cancer and watching his wife crying and Tobi Himself with tears was so heartbreaking for me and everyone who’s life he impacted.. he’s with the Angels and both my husband’s loved Country Music and he’s singing to them now 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
Toby Keith was the artist who got me to love country music when I was a teen. He has been my favorite singer of all time and his songs have been outstanding. This veteran will always sing along with his songs when they come on the radio!! Praying for Gods healing hand to get Toby through this.
I don't understand cancer, I watched my parents die from it, and I cared my mom while she battled it. It's a disease I don't wish upon my worst enemy. I'm glad Toby Keith is up in the about. And I pray and hope he will be able to overcome it.

Cancer is sneaky. IMO it’s caused by a combination of the environment we’re all exposed to and genetics. Sorry about your loss of your parents.
Cancer has got ahold of my brother,Cancer is terminal for him kemo did nothing for him, his tumors have doubled in size. He is only,65 years old still young in my book .my world won't be the same without my big brother.

Toby Keith has an iconic voice! I’ve never heard another like it. And trust me, I’ve heard a ton. I have approximately 2000 records from the 60’s to the Early 2000’s.

Just got done doing radiation 2 months ago and been fighting cancer since Nov.2012. On my 3rd bout of cancer, 5 rounds of chemo and 2 of radiation it all has taken a toll on my soon to be 53 year old body. Hand Salute to you Toby for taking the fight to the cancer. I wish you nothing but good results and even more years of health and happiness. You are a true American Icon.

So great to see Toby take the stage again. I can see he’s been thru a lot but I pray he stays strong. I’m a 34 year cancer survivor myself, and I understand the toll it takes on one’s spirit. Faith is comforting and I hope he wraps himself it it. One’s state of mind plays a role as well so Toby, “don’t give up!” Millions of your fans love you and are praying for you !
So sad about Toby's passing it looked like he might beat the cancer. This performance becomes even more emotional when you realize this was his way of saying goodbye to the fans and one of his last performances. Toby's music has been a part of my life since I was 10 in 1993 when he debuted in country music. Ever since then I've been a huge fan. RIP Big Dog you are gone but never forgotten.
